Leo and Raph in the OT

The OT is the only version where leo and Raph don't have a strained relationship or argue. I was wondering if the writters wanted to given their personalities in the show, do you think Leo and Raph could have had a argumentive rivarly between the two where Raphael rebelled against leo and Leo felt exsasperated by him in the orginal series?

They were both too easy going, the only times Leo got pissy was when his "leadership" was being used as a plot device.

Raphael has sarcastic comedy in the old cartoon series and in the movies he has attitude, especially in the 1st one. But in the 2nd one, he has sarcastic comedy with some attitude.

but I'm asking what if they did give a bit more discontent between Leonardo and Raphael? It's not like Raphael couldn't be argumentive or disdainful in the orginal series. Leoanrdo and Raphael even got into a majoy fight in season 7 over a diffrence in opinion, so it's not like it could happen between them. And in the Archies wasn't Raphael more edgy and rebellious with out being being to far removed from his orginal toon sarcastic self?

Yes he certainly was. Especially after he put on the all black outfit. That's what I loved about Archie's Rapheal, he was a blend of the OT and Mirage Rapheal.

One thing that I think should be pointed out is that cartoon first aired around when the #10 of the original comic was coming out. Up to that point there wasn't a rivalry between them in the book. He was presented as more independent and the one that was quick to anger but not having any specific problem with Leonardo.

It was really "Return to New York" that gave them the kind if dynamic that would become a staple of the movies, the new toon and beyond. By that time the OT had established it's own identity and despite early hints at Raph having a temper the writers of the show had clearly gone their own way with the character.

I think their relationship in the original toon can be attributed to two things. For one, the Turtles' personalities in the comics were poorly defined at this point. For another, it was a light-hearted, episodic series and the personalities worked well within that context.

Raphael

Raphael is still the most violent in the 1987 cartoon, even if he not as violent as in other versions. He is the one who holds his sai against Baxter Stockman in "A Thing About Rats" and forces him to say where Shredder is, and it's Raphael who asks if they just shall knock down the kids and grab the Sarnath's Eye crystal fragment in "It Came from Beneath the Sewers" (even if it's probably a joke). If Raphael had been too violent in the 1987 cartoon, it wouldn't fit into the show (which was more a humor show, the 2003 cartoon is more based on exciting adventures)

really? I kind of felt that Donatello was the most violent turtle in the orginal series. He was the only turtle to actually try to kill Shredder.

If you mean "Night of the Dark Turtle", it was not under "normal" conditions.

yeah but still, he was normally the first turtle to lose his temper and react violently. He smashed Vernon's nephew's science project in a fit of rage.

Yes, but the red sky seasons (1994-1996) were darker and more action adventures than the other seasons.

I remember when the turtles were gonna enter some fancy pizzeria and Raph didn't like the snotty waiter at the door.

Raph- shall we.. lay the guy out?
Don- c'mon Raphael, we don't wanna start a scene.

Although very sugarcoated, Raph was still the angry and violent one of the old show. That's also why all his jokes were sarcastic smart-ass remarks. Apart from a few occassions where the other turtles do it, Raph was also usually the one to insult everyone else, mostly Mikey. But then again, in the new show Raph is usually smacking Mikey around too...

Raphael

Raphael also uses his said towards the Foot soldier in the "Turtle Tracks" episode before knowing it is just a robot.

He pretty much had to do it in order to save the earth. Im gonna stick with J_1982 on this one, raph is approximately the angriest turtle.
