Tempus Fugit Review!
Well, the CW station I get showed the premiere episode at 6:30am today. They show all of the children's programming many hours earlier (probrably to get the more adult programming going sooner), but I don't care. The premiere episode was super awesome!!! So, if you want to be spoiled now (for those that haven't see it), go ahead and read. But if you don't, stop now.
Synopsis: The episode starts with Viral putting herself back together inside Serling's system. She has a brief flashback to her previous Fast Forward episode where she was defeated. Meanwhile Donatello and Cody have finally got the time window working, and Viral then has an idea. Suddenly we see the Fast Forward theme go by. I guess since this episode starts like an episode of Fast Forward, we have to see the theme. Just as the time window is opening Mikey tries to bring all of his future video games with him. Don stops him for obvious reasons and also tells the team that they should get rid of their future gear. So the Turtles throw to the ground their weapons and most of their future attire. The team does have a special goodbye moment to Cody and then they jump through the window. But just as the last turtle goes, Viral begins controlling Serling and pushes him through the time window and blows up Cody's machine. The last shot we see of Cody is him with a look of doom on his face. Just before the Turtles seemingly make it home, Viral appears (outside of Serling's body now) and sends the team to Dinosaur times. Viral hopes a hungry T-Rex will eat the Turtles. The Turtles trying fighting the dino but without their weapons they're not doing well. Raph of course says "Yeah Don. Don't bring your weapons. Don't want to pollute the time steam." Serling can't fight though because Viral shut down his fighting systems. Suddenly Mikey appears with a new triceratops friend and stops the T-Rex with it. Mikey of course thanks his new pet "Zog the Second". An upset Viral then sends the Turtles to the Dark Ages and has them fighting knights. Don then realizes he needs future technology to get Serling's virus protection systems going and hopes to head back to the future. Mikey who thinks he knows how taunts Viral into sending them into a better, more dangerous fight in the future. So Viral sends the Turtles to "the not so distant future". There the Turtles are caught in a crossfire full of old and new enemies including the Utrom Shredder, Tengu Shredder, and the new Cyber Shredder. As the Shredder's fight, it is quit funny to hear the Utrom Shredder yell "You can't stop me. I am the one true Shredder!" Don complains 21st century technology still isn't good enough but then gets the idea of stealing parts from the Utrom Shredder's exosuit. As they do that, Leo fights a new tough guy who claims to have already defeated them. Don then gets Serling up and running and turns him into Turtle-X. The Turtles blast Viral into a bunch of pieces and go back into the time window to their present. On the way through the time steam, Viral appears again. While weaker, she can still blast some Turtles. Before doing it, Don points out that in the time stream they're just bits of data and will be scattered all across the digital domain if they're blasted. Viral doesn't care of course and sends a blast at the Turtles. Splinter, suddenly in one of his bravest moments ever jumps in front of the blast and then we see him disenagrate. The Turtles seconds later land in their layer but with looks of complete sadness on their faces. They even say "our father is gone". A weakened Viral then goes into the "primitive internet" hoping for a way to power herself up. She finds nothing until she finds an extremely powerful energy source. When she touches it though, suddenly the icon of the Shredder/Foot appears. The power of the program then takes over and slowly replaces her entire mind and body with a whole new one. And then we see the brand new Cyber Shredder appear. But then suddenly we hear words yell "It's Ninja Time!" And suddenly we see the brand new "Back to the Sewers" opening. That's right! At the end, us viewers are treated to the brand new theme song and it is is completely amazing! Review: What an incredible beginning to a season! A perfect transition from Fast Forward. While it was a bit disappointing to see the Fast Forward opening at the start, it paid off by having the new theme in the end. And it was good in the end to know that it is not Viral who will be a main enemy this season. Rather her body and power has simply been used and replaced by the Cyber Shredder program. I'm going to bet that was planted at some point by the Utrom Shredder so it may be a copy of his mind that is within the body. The episode featured a strange send-off for Cody. Leaving him with a look of doom was a strange way to end it but that's the way it goes. The story was also a perfect way to lead the Turtles home. Long ago I had guessed that the Turtles would've simply jumped through the time window and that would've been it. But to make the trip back a difficult one (so difficult that it killed Splinter), made it a worthwhile episode. As for the "not so distant future" they landed in, I'm going bet they landed that it was the season finale for this season or something like that. Perhaps the Turtles in that episode are beaten and have to hide for awhile while the Turtles of this episode show up. But anyway, it was a great episode. And as a final note, there was no promo for the next episode, but the length of this episode was a bit longer than the average Ninja Turtles ep. Future episodes will probrably be the same. The Turtles are Back to the Sewers! Last edited by teacher fan; 09-13-2008 at 05:33 AM. |

Not reading that sypnosis til I see the episode for myself.
I will just say that I hope this season is a return to the storytelling that seasons 1-5 provided. Season 6-7 were good, but I miss the style seasons 1-5 provided when it comes to story telling. I just hope it feels like seasons 1-5. Thirty-five minutes of praying this Turtle fan has something to believe in. -X-

The spoilers are beggining to convince me that the events of "Timing Is Everything" retconned about three seasons
Well, if Serling is going back into the past, the technology he carries will change the present irrevocably (not unless it's a "predestination paradox" deal, in which case it was always meant to happen), so you can't blame him for thinking "Bollocks" |

That was just as good as everything else from this entire series, I don't care what anyone else says I'm glad they're keeping things from Fast Forward as part of the story it shows that they feel it wasn't a failure.
I'm glad those of us who realized Cyber Shredder was Viral from the start had been proven correct this morning. I still have to wonder how the Demon Shredder & Utrom Shredder come back. I'm also thinking that Karai will be a good guy and that the Foot Soldiers are fighting of Viral's cyber Foot. I'm really looking forward to this season, as usual Serling made me laugh, he even reminded me of Vernon from the old toon a few times lol. Seriously great stuff, I hope they keep it up with the other 12 episodes and don't slack off after this big bang of a season premier. The eyes are going to take a bit of getting used to but whatever. I really thought it was cool how it started out with the FF intro and ended with the BTTS Into. Playmates are dumber than I thought they where they seriously should have had toys out on the shelves for this show at the time the show hit the air, from what I'm told we may not even get Back To The Sewer toys until 2009, If that's true Epic Fail for Playmates. |

For some ungodly reason I was awake at 9:35, so I managed to to see most of the episode.
Things that were good: While in the Dark Ages, the turtles showed how good of fighters they are and stole weapons. Future-Past where Utrom Shredder vs Demon Shredder vs Cyber Shredder. It will be very interesting to see if this time does come to pass eventually. If it does, why are all three of them still fighting? Unless Cyber Shredder has memory implants that make him think HE'S the real one. Animation style was a lot better than I thought it would be, the turtles are still the turtles. Zog II! Crazy Purple Dragon guy saying he beat the turtles before. Crap, Splinter's gone. This could be very, very interesting. Could have been better: Reveal of Cyber Shredder immediately this episode. When I saw the red-black data center, my first thought went immediately to Bishop which could have been a much more interesting path to take. Just have Viral get trapped, reveal the transformation later. I hope the costumes change because I don't like all of them having blue arm bands. Serling is still around. One of those Shredders should have been Karai. Solid episode, much better than what I had seen of Fast Forward. I'm indifferent to the theme. So where does the three Shredder universe fit in with continuity? It must be before Same as It Never Was, right? |

This episode is all action. Just completely action packed and unlike any of the "new" entries. Still, there are some pretty cool hints to the future development of the plot, so I look forward to seeing more. I missed the first few minutes cause I was in the bathroom. I started from the dino attack.

I thought it was boring all the way up until the part featured in the preview, then it got pretty awesome. Definantly alot of unanswered questions, which is good.
Was it just me, or did we all let out a simultaneous "WTF?" when the FF theme song came on? I still don't understand the point of that. |

Honestly, I didn't mind the FF theme song, I was utterly confused on why the shell it was there, but I fingured it was because it might be the last time we see Cody or the year 2105 (except in flashbacks) again, so it didn't bug me as much. Nothing surprised me more than when the new theme came on at the end, and it ROCKED!!

This was a fun episode, just didn't like the ending. Too short. That, and the Turtles just left the virus infected robot from the future alone! Umm...come on? At least have Donnie try to shut him down or something. Just like Fast Forward, their to fast to end the episode without wrapping up the loose ends. Otherwise though, I liked it. Not the best, but it makes a good story for getting from point A to B. |

You know what sucks? I still have to wait until 12:30PM my time to watch this show. My local CW doesn't start airing cartoons until the afternoon.

Spoiler:
But definitely an epic start to the series... so connected to FF is it: Spoiler:
I gotta say, I'm starting to like the look as it pertains to animation. And it seems like they're doing something they were planning on doing if FF went on to the next season. But I feel a lot better. Mikey's annoyingness came in handy (as it did during the Battle Nexus fight with Raph... as it should be). Man, this looks to be an epic season.

Amen! But at least there was something good to wake up too. I say, if this first episode is indication of whats to come, then we Turtle fans are in great shape!
