Midtowncomics is saying this will be out on Wednesday Oct 22nd.

“Night of the Living Gingerbread" - Michelangelo tells Shadow a Halloween bedtime story that explains how Renet accidentally teleported the TMNT to the ancient past, where they ran into ghouls and beasties of all nefarious varieties and were befriended by a gingerbread man named Gutwallow. Will our heroes have a happy Halloween or be eaten by hideous monsters from the nether realms? Only time (and Mikey) will tell!

No one else got this today? Well, you're missing out. It is 1,000 kinds of awesome and IMO exactly what a real Tale of the TMNT should be. Dan, unsurprisingly, once again kicks butt in terms of both story and art.

Got it, read it, loved it. Couldn't agree with Rose more. And a whole issue of Dan's art is always a treat. With this, the TMNT-verse and Dan's Gutwallow-verse are thence married. The whole thing was a joy to read.

Kudos to putting L. Jamal Walton on tones. His presence is felt and is very much appreciated... here is another example of a black and white comic putting the medium to perfect use.

Anyone who hasn't picked it up or whose shop hasn't gotten it this week is missing out.

I couldnt get out this week to the comic shop as the only one that sells TMNT in my are is over and hour away.
It's sort of dumb for me to drive that far for one comic, I usually wait till they have at least 2 on hold for me.
But I am looking forward to this issue very much, big Dan fan and I just got a bunch of Gutwallow comics.

I didn't realize it was available y'day (missed this post!). My LCS didn't get Third Kind #2 last week, so when they left a message I assumed it was for that. So it was a bit of a surprise that Tales was in too.

I agree with Roseangelo, it's an awesome issue. The art and story are great, and perfect for this time of the year.

I just now got a chance to read it, and WOW! Dan't art is incredible. To me, that's exactly how the Turtles should be drawn. I don't care much for Lawson's style. This is so much more organic looking and dynamic. Plus the story was fun and enjoyable. Like someone else said, this is exactly what this title should be!

I got it yesterday, and it's great. I'm a big fan of Dan's art. It's cartoony but still intense at the same time. And kudos for the Calvin and Hobbes reference. I laughed so hard when that was tied in

Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #51 (Mirage Publishing; review by Caleb): This issue definitely has nostalgia going for it. As in the classic Cerebus crossover in the original TMNT series, ditzy time-traveling sorceress Renet accidentally strands herself and the turtles in a distant land, where they team up with another indie comics character. This time it’s Gutwallow, a sort of gingerbread man created in 1998 by this issue’s writer/artist, Dan Berger. Helping stroke that nostalgia are all the familiar names from the old Mirage days involved with the issue—in addition to Berger, Michael Dooney, Eric Talbot and Steve Lavigne are all involved in some capacity. The downside of nostalgia is, of course, it’s almost necessarily something you’ve seen before, and Berger’s tale doesn’t exactly feel fresh. The story within the bedtime story involves the turtles encountering a bunch of monsters from Gutwallow’s world—zombies, werewolves, vampires, a dragon—until they reach the end of the comic, at which point the story ends. Berger is a hell of a cartoonist though, and it’s a pleasure drinking in his line work and the highly animated emotion he communicates through his inspired versions of the super-familiar stars.

I liked this issue too. Especially to see a story where the turtles are with a young Shadow and see how they were with her growing up. I just wonder about Mikey's story? Did it happen? We all know how Renet can be. Just makes me wonder if it is a story that the turtles went through.
I'm not a fan of Bergers drawn TMNT. Its ok at bits but they're just too cartoony for me. I like the TMNT to be serious: Laird & Eastman, early Lawson. early Talbot. But it was a suitable style for a Halloween issue.

As always loved Michael Dooney's front page art.
I'm enjoying Dan's art as well, besides the humans..a little to cartoony for my taste and I usually love his art..but this is a little to over exadurated but oh well it's still a nice break from the monthly Lawson fest we get.
The Turtles and everything else look great though.
That Monster towards the end was pretty cool looking.
hahaha Ok the wizard named Oogly Moogly is just to funny the turtles have said that so many times over the years and now we know who the Great Oogly Moogly is.
I'd really like to see more adventures with Gutwallow, I don't know about anyone else but I like the lil' guy.
Hah so over all looking past the design of young shaddow and Renette I really enjoyed this issue and would really like to see more work from Dan.
