Official Episode Discussion: "Identity Crisis"

Official Ep Discussion: "Identity Crisis"

Cyber Shredder uses a computer virus to wipe the Turtles' memories out and make them work for The Foot; April, Casey, and Serling work to save the Turtles.

Greetings folks!

Okay, I've been looking at this episode description, not to mention the video sneak peek they gave us. So KHAAAAN gets bitched out by Shredder for their failure to get him out of the Cyberworld. KHAAAAN explains that the turtles have caused most of the setbacks, and Shredder explains that he has a plan to get the turtles once and for all...

Meahwhile, at the sewers, April is gushing over Don's technological advancements. Raph's not as happy about it - digitizing back and forth HAS to affect you somehow.. (Dare I mention the mutation mess in the Red Sky eps of the Old toon?)

Our Beloved robotic Butler is becoming not much more than a Rodney Dangerfield character. A quick laugh or groan at most.

The boys are working Together on finding Splinter's remnants ('bout time, I say), and come upon a veritable Mount Everest of Garbage Data. So the turtles begin spelunking the mountain with April watching from reality. Don manages to reach a small cluster of data bits and download them, when something comes up on their radar - a massive power surge, aka Shredder's Amnesia virus.

Okay... so judging from all of this, the boys are going to lose their memories, and eventually get turned into little foot soldering Zombies for KHAAAAN. It'll be up to April, Serling and Casey to figure out how to get the boys back to normal. Figuring the virus got them in the cyber realm, they'd have to get them there again. They basically need to send the boys through a giant Anti-virus program to get cleaned out.

Something to consider while watching this is the idea of there now being Two Shredders in this realm of reality. If Cyber Shredder and Ch'rell were to meet, or find out about each other, would they join forces, or pull a 'there can be only one!' type battle? We've seen a reality where the boys had to fight THREE shredders... could it have been a foreshadowing of things to come? Or was it just a coincidence?

Now, figuring it's a one episode deal with no consequences, the crew will manage to get them back to normal without any issues, and they'll be able to fight Shredder and resume gathering Splinter's bits. Right? Or could this memory loss have more of an affect on their minds? Raphael makes a comment in the preview about how the repeated back and forth
digitizing MUST screw with them somehow... COULD there be something semi-permanent that affects them? Maybe while under Shredder/KHAN's control, they give out valuable information about their location, or the predicament with Splinter? Or will they manage to get through this unscathed?

Time will tell. Once again, I will leave you with some questions to ponder...

WILL THE TURTLES GET THEIR MEMORIES BACK?

WILL AN OVERZEALOUS CASEY JONES' ACCIDENTALLY CAUSE SERLING TO GO TURTLE-X OUT OF NOWHERE?

COULD THIS EXPERIENCE PUT THE TURTLES INTO A DEADLY SITUATION REGARDING THEIR LOCATION/MISSION/ETC. ?

And even though the Pharaoh cries for his Mummy whenever I say it...(Hey, It's Halloween!)

STAY TUNED!!!

((Thanks to Jester for some ideas to make this teaser a lil better...))

Nice seeing Klunk, so far this episode isn't doing much for me, but that could be because it comes after a great show like Spider-Man.
Allot of these Back To The Sewer episodes remind me of plots that would have been in the old toon but without the charm and humor the old show had going for it.
I like how the turtles look in the Foot gear and how they showed no mercy kicking the crap out of the Purple Dragons and they showed Leo using his Katana on Casey almost hitting him something we hardly ever saw before.
I also really dig Casey's outfit, the Skullcap is a nice touch.
And man Serling is the great , best line in this episode had to be "I am not giving you a kiss!" haha
I don't know about anyone else but man the Turtles working for the foot are brutal, sort of wish they where the bad guys lol. Once again can't believe they (Don) hit a female purple dragon!
I really like how April looks ridding in Serling/Turtle-X
I loved those flash back images, someone totally has to screen cap those! Serling in a dress! & Renet finally!
At the end I thought the episode was ok, it comes off as a bit crammed though, I think they could have went on a bit longer with this.
NEXT WEEK MUTANTS! I'm so looking forward to that, shame it appears to be more of this series generic mutant types.

I did like this episode. I burst out laughing at the flashbacks. Actually Vaughn pointed out most of what I liked in the episode, so there's no point in repeating it.

I absolutely loved the flashbacks to pieces. Very accurate for each Turtle. Very individualized.

It was also nifty to not show the pupils when they were possessed, yet returning them when they came back to normal.

This was a great episode. I thought this was going to be another "Cyberworld" ep because of the beginning but it was only for the first 5 minutes, and then we were back in New York.

April, Casey and Serling make quite a team. The flashbacks were hilarious, my favorite part of the episode.

The Turtles attacking the Purple dragons were great, as was Leo swinging his swords at Casey's head.

One of the best episodes of the season so far.

Did I see a Nintendo Wii in Mikey's Flashback?

I liked the flashbacks, and I agree, "I am not giving you a kiss,"

My sister personally thought the turtles looked kind of scary when they were possesed(For once we agree on something!, Somewhere a herd of pigs are taking flight).

I thought Raph would snap out of it if Leo started fighting him, shame it didn't happen, but he did fight Leo in a flashback.

Raph shoveing Mikey's face into the cake.

Where shall I begin?

It is great to have Casey and April working as team without the guys for a change (though once is enough). You got the best of both worlds: Casey is the strong guy, where as April is the smart one.

Also, finally great to see the cat again. Now can we please see Karai?

I'm glad that Raph wasn't cured right away. Good way to continue the plot.
My faviorit part was seeing the fash backs. We saw some characters that we haven't seen in four years, like the ancient one.

As for next week, didn't they always do this plot? Mutants attack sounds like sometime from season four when Bishop's experiment went horribly wrong.

Maybe it is Bishop's experiment gone horribly wrong. Hey, it'd give us a chance to see Bishop's new look.

I enjoyed this episode I seriously loved seeing the turtles all working together in cyberspace with April at the helm montering everything in the lair. I think it was a nice little tidbit that when the turtles came torn back to reality that they had pupiless eyes.

I got chills when the turtles came to Kahn's hide out and they nelt before him all respectfully when he greeted them as "foot ninja". Seeing the turtles as bad guys was pretty damn cool and you have to admit as bad guys they really send off the vibe of assasins. They work as one, they're quite and precise, and they are brutal. If the turtles became evil for real they would be scarey becuase it seemed like they would give no mercy. Kind of scarey to see what the turtles are capable of with their combat skills. Imagine if Splinter had been bad and brought them up that way? It's kinda freaky how lethal they are with out their personlites present to soften their ninja personas.

My only real complaint is that I wish the turtles being controlled and acting as foot memebers had been an actual story arc rather just a single episode. I think alot of potenticial of the turtles working as foot ninja could have had lots of potencial. Kahn could have had the turtles do any number of horriable things while working as foot ninja. Like having them kill innocent people or attack their friends or do unspeakable things to the city? And I thought I was going to get that when Raphael didn't come out of it right away like the others. Actually I thought it was good attention to character dynamics that the squishy memeories the turtles where having didn't affect Raph. Raphael has always been more gruff and hard edged than the others, and he probably doesn't get suckered into things like that. Not that he doesn't care for them but Raph's a tough guy so it would take more than that to affect him. I don't know what it says about Raph that all the memeories about kicking ass and Splinter not affecting him means. But it was memeory he had of picking on Mikey that snapped him out of it. hmm But eighther way it was a memeory with Mikey that ultimately did the trick.

Some of my favorite scenes in this episode was the whole sequence of the turtles running across the roof tops to Kahn's place. Those where nice, I love seeing the turtlesdo that and since thids season started we've been treated to those types of scenes quite a bit. Also loved the scenes where Casey was getting attacked by the turtles. It was well played out and I enjoyed seeing Casey almost get nailed half a dozen times, he was litterly running for his life when he escaped from them, particually the scene where Casey makes it to his bike and and narrowly avoids getting scalped by leo when he swipped at him. They wheren't messing around and they it sort of shocked me that they all used their weapons on him. The bomb thing also suprised me because I keopt thinkng, hey aren't there some helpless nocked out purple dragon memebers still inside the building? The way the building went up there was no way of those PD's the turtles beat up survived.

The turtles had pupils, they were just really really tiny.

I honestly do not think it would have worked out as an entire story arc. Perhaps a two-part episode...at the very most. I honestly do not know how they managed to make it last nearly a whole episode. Or how it managed to work with all 4 Turtles.

I do love the way they snapped the Turtles out of this. Screencaps, please!

This episode didn't impress me all that much. It was, I don't know, too "wacky" with all the memory beam devices and whatnot, which as Vaughn said much earlier, felt like the old toon minus its charms.

On the other hand, the action was good, that series of painting-style flashbacks was cool, and there were humorous bits like Serling's "I'm not giving you a kiss."

Oh, and did anyone else catch the Dark Turtles theme music? Nice touch.

Next week: Mutants! Yes! Sure, they're not a wacky cast of anthropomorphic animals, but whatever.

Really great episode I am loving Master Khan I hope they go alittle indepth with his story. I mean he's foot but we never saw him before so it makes me wonder whats his deal and how he got to be in the bigger picture. Boy those Foot Turtles are cool looking. I sure they would really make badass toys I hope they oh yeah I forgot there are no Back to the Sewar toys. The flashback where cool I hope someone screencaps them.

Although I do wish they handled Raph's better. I mean they had the whole his worst fear giving into his rage and anger and becoming Shredder and they didn't work that one in. Also rather have had a good heart father son moment animated then silly slapstick. Really outside of that I think that was the only thing not handled well.

ah now there is numerous ways that could have lasted for a entire story arc of say, three episodes. It could have served to bring the rest of the players out into the open, like Karai if she found out the turtles where acting as foot ninja and wrecking things, it could serve to give us more of Serling Casey+April team up to work against the turtles. They could get ahold of Usagi and have him fight with them so they could another warrior fight the turtles that equal to them in skill. just to point out a few things.

This is what, the third mind control episode this season? First Casey, then April, now the turtles. Oh, well, it was fun. And what was up with Raph's pirate memory? I lol'd.
