A Little Turtle Story

You wouldn't believe what I did. Okay... we first had to pick a movie, a song, a work of art, etc. and do an essay on how it ties in with "self-exploration" (almost sounds hippy-ish ) Anyway, being the turtle lover that I am, I chose to use the first Ninja Turtle movie as my reference. We were supposed to show a clip and when I did, everyone was upset when I had to stop the tape.

You wouldn't believe. Even during my presentation, EVERYONE (including the teacher) was talking about the ninja turtles, how cool they were and who was their favorite one! My teacher first dissed the turtles when I asked the class who had not seen it. About three people raised their hand, and the teacher raised her and said "and I'm glad I didn't!"

But after I showed the clip of April getting robbed and the turtles coming to her rescue for the first time, she said she "was actually now intrigued!" It was great!!! Now... everyone's saying my presentation was the best and they're going to start watching the new show!

It's good to know the Ninja Turtles are still in the hearts of many! I just had to get this off my chest... it was so touching for Ninja Turtle fans everywhere!

You should've done more than just show the movie to make her think otherwise

BTW, just how does the movie involve "self-exploration"?

Everytime I draw a Ninja Turtle in class (which is quite often) all the people near me say stuff like:
"Hey, Ninja Turtles"
"Draw Michelangelo"
"I used to watch them when I was a kid"

I think that Fox Box should advertise on channels like MTV (ugh, I hate that channel) because I think more than half of my High School would watch it.

I had a similar experience last year when I did a rhetorical criticism for my Public Speaking class. My speech was called: "The Rise and Fall of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles."

I brought four video tapes with me. The first tape was to show what the original opening and theme sounded like. The second tape was to show what the second opening and theme sounded like. The third tape was to show a clip of the show's light-hearted humor. And the fourth tape was to show what the third opening and theme sounded like, followed by the dark turn the show took in later years.

I also did a PowerPoint visual to enhance my speech (which I saved and still have to this day).

As soon as people in my class saw the words "Ninja Turtles" on my PowerPoint, as soon as they saw me taking out Ninja Turtles tapes from my backpack, they all sat up in their seats. And I knew I had them eating from the palm of my hand.

To make a long story short, the class loved my presentation, and we had a hearty discussion immediately afterwards about how people used to watch the show. Later that day, my teacher sent an e-mail out to everyone in the class about how something like a cartoon show can even be used as an example of rhetorical critism.

It was the best speech I ever gave, and the most fun. One of the cool things about college is that you can give a speech on anything. For example, one guy did a demonstration speech on how you skin a squirrel and prepare it for dinner.

I know I'll never look at squirrel the same way again . . .

"Turtle -- all four old Turtles stop to catch their breath -- Power!" *cough cough cough cough*

HAHA... well, it ties in to three elements of self-exploration. First of all, we did class definitions and based them on that. Anyway, the three elements it ties into is 1) it displays character traits, 2) you see the use of talents and qualities to help others, and 3) you see time spent alone to find one's self. Strange... but I got the most responses from that presentation.

HAHA... I had a few of those experiences myself... I can't say I was too successful in sketching, but the ninja turtles were always my best work. Too bad they look like a second grader's drawing.
