TMNT original Vol 1-3 Region 4 - anyone in AUS had trouble playing these?

I have Volumes 1 to 3 of the original TMNT cartoon on Region 4 DVD.
The DVDs are in NTSC format but I cannot play Volumes 1 or 2 on my Macbook.
They play on my Blu-Ray disc player for my television just fine.
I was wondering if anyone else came across this and if this is a glitch in the vol 1 and 2 discs or if it's Liongate's position to stop these being played on a Computer (i.e. piracy)?
Anyone out there know?
I'm guessing the discs are the same as the Region 1 DVDs just rebadged as Region 4 because they are in NTSC and the menus are the same as the Region 1 disc.

The Region 1 discs have always worked fine for me on my computer (using Media Player Classic on WinXP). Have you tried viewing them using different software?

I don't even get that far - my Macbook immediately ejects the DVDs.
