Obscure or Unpopular Character Appreciation Thread
Have any favorite Turtles characters that are under-appreciated or even largely unknown? Everyone knows, Shredder, Rocksteady, April, etc. And then there are those that, while they may be known only to more hardcore fans, are universally liked. (When was the last time you saw anyone on here say they hated Armaggon?) I'm talking about those special few that the most casual fans are unaware of, and that hardcore fans tend to despise or just largely ignore. Characters that, for me, include:
Complete Carnage - This guy is too f*cking awesome for words. An out-and-out, nigh unkillable, super villainous threat for the Turtles. He can meld with and gain power from any man-made material. How cool is that? Leo spends the greater half of his old age tracking him down just to kill him. And somehow, he still gets left out of the 4Kids cartoon and only has three full issues to his name. Boss Zukko - Who? The Triceraton mobster in Fast Foward. Why? I don't know. Maybe it's the sheer novelty of seeing a Triceraton involved in organized crime. But there's something about him I find really entertaining, and all of his appearences in the series were solid. I only wish we knew what his connection to the Triceraton Shredder might have been... Cha Ocho - Hands down the best character to come out of the post-revival comics. "Scars" is one of my favorite issues, and Cha is an incredibly rich entry into the mythos. Well...if he'd get more limelight, maybe. But it's still cool to have another Karai-esque, not-quite-villain floating around. He can go drinking with Raphael one night and still want to kill Leonardo the next. Plus, his stance on vengeance is like, a reflection of the Turtles' old ways or something. Woah, thematic continuity. Dregg - I know, I know. For the longest time, I thought he was boring as sh*t. But now that I've been going through the 'Red Sky' episodes again, I find myself really enjoying him. He really does make the Turtles' situations seem hopeless, befriending the people of the Earth. It all seems welcomely dire after seven seasons of the same old, same old. He gets a nice little character arc over his sixteen episodes too, going from calculating invader to deranged madman bent on killing the Turtles. Basically, he doesn't overstay his welcome, and while I'm not sure he'd hold his own as a villain in any other version of Turtles, he was probably just the right fit for where the original cartoon was headed. Those are all I can think of for now. Discuss. |

I really like Ariella Yehuda, aka Golani, from the Archie comics.
Tang Shen needs more attention as well. I honestly think the 2k3 series developed her more than the original Mirage comic.

Hmmm...I like a lot of the other characters from the TMNT universe. Not sur if these are popular so, Antrax, The Trio(Scratch,Nocturno,Scare Crow), Mer Dude, Mutagen Man, Pizza Face, Scale Tail, that spider guy from the Archie comics(looked kinda like a Predator)Toxin? Dirt Bag & Groundchuck. Just to name a few. Like I said not sure if these are popular or kinda obscure. I guess when I think popular besides the TMNT I think about Rat King, Leatherhead, Slash, Tokka, Shredder, Rocksteady, Hot Head, Casey, Ray Fillet Mondo, etc. I like a lot of those as well!

Savanti Juliet- I loved that comic, it was really trippy and the fact that Savanti Romero had a wife is awesome, not to mention a nice nod at Romeo and Juliet. Poe's little cameo was also amazing.
SHredder Elite-Three grotesque creatures decked out in Shredder armor... I only wish they would have lasted a bit longer. I really did enjoy their designs though. Dregg- I liked him because even the Shredder and Krang get kinda old after what, 9 seasons or so. PizzaFace- He's just a cool figure. If he was atually used in the comics or in the cartoons I wonder how he would have been portrayed. If you think about it he would have been pretty useless in the fighting department due to have a hunchback, Pizza cutter leg and being kinda frumpy. But I don't know maybe he could make pizza monsters like... oh right.

All H.A.V.O.C. characters. Aside from menting the episode titles a few times, I've never seen anyone say anything about these guys. Their pretty cool and so far (I still have a few episodes to watch) the highlight of season 8.

Like I said before, Tyrannus and his pals were a real threat unlike Runaway Shredder, it's their lame-ass designs that turned me off. They really needed a better monster designer for that show. Don't make em look scary for the kiddies, but at least make them look cool.

H.A.V.O.C. has never done it for me. Their episodes had potential but ended up being kind of lame. Maybe if they'd stuck closer to the more traditional mutants of the show, and had a bit more character, I'd like them. |

True, since when did being a mutant give you super-powers?

You've got a point. When you think about it, none of the core character mutants (the Turtles and Splinter) in either the comic book or TV cartoons had any special powers, but only their fighting skills and whatever smarts they had. (Batman is much the same way.)

Exactly, and every single mutant in the show up to that point only had characteristics relative to their animal forms. Leatherhead and Groundchuck had their size, Rocksteady would run into things with his horn, the TMNT had their hard shells and would occasionaly pull their heads in, and Splinter was able to crawl and chew through anything.
But Titanus had mutant rams and scorpions and what not that had flying powers, super speed, eye blasts, etc. And what kinda future was that? All mutants were outlawed? What about the future turtles, had they lived that long that is. |

Just because Peter Cullen sounds awesome saying the line "We're the Crooked Ninja Turtle Gang!"
Been wanting to edit that line into the first Transformers movie. You know, when Sam ask "What are you" and Prime can reply "We're the Crooked Ninja Turtle Gang!" Sadly, I don't have the video/audio editing skills to do it. |

I used to really like Mondo in the OT. I wish he had been in a few more eppys. He was like Leather head in 2K3. We knew he lived nearby but only dropped by in convenient story moments

I wish they would've included Panda Khan in the original toon. He had his own comic book like Usagi, and it was pretty good.
I've always liked Dirt Bag and Groundchuck, Ray Fillet and the Mighty Mutanimals, and the OT 'version of the Triceratons. Tokka and Rahzar had potential, especially in the OT . I also liked Ace Duck ( the pilot not the wrestler) |
