Turtles: Dawn of the Ninja - Fan comic

Hey guys, it's Luke from Dawn of the Ninja. Incase you haven't already heard, the graphic novel is officially in the works!!! Visit our website for updates or follow @TMNTmovie for information as it becomes available.

Looking forward to showing off what we are working on! I hope you guys are as excited as we are about this! It's like a dream come true, Steve and I never imagined we would make it this far when we started the project back in 2005. We wouldn't have made it without the support of the fans! Thanks!

We would NEVER attempt to make money off anything we have done without obtaining the proper licensing. Obviously we would "HOPE to sell it in a store"... but that doesn't mean we will get the licensing.

I HOPE they let me direct Transformers 3....

I HOPE I win the lottery tomorrow....

I HOPE people will stop attacking our love for TMNT and desire to make it awesome......

But this is reality, we don't always get what we hope for, but that won't stop us from trying.

We are very passionate and very excited about what we have done!

This project has been one of the most exciting things I have ever done in my life (aside from marrying my wife, that's still ranks #1)

And if Steve ever gets married, I'm sure he would agree too =).

Check the site now, hopefully that satisfies those who.... don't seem to understand that this is a fan project.

Man, what a fun thread! I think this is the most I have ever used a forum in my life.... thanks for the entertainment!

Hey, everyone!!

I'm the artist of the graphic novel. I'm SO excited to be a part of this. Been a huge Turtles fan all my life and getting that chance to do a different take on them is incredible. Taking the characters seriously! It's going to be intense! I'm going to try my best to represent them in a great new way. I hope I can make at least some of you happy!

No it isn't official. But we do hope to change that. Is it a far-fetched dream? Definitely, but it's still worth shooting for the stars! I'm sure we're all the same, and we want to see the Turtles done right! Plus, it's just great to have more Turtles content out there!

Worst case scenario, we have a lot of fun making a Turtles Graphic novel and, I believe, most fans will love it! (obviously not everyone)

And what's really cool about the http://www.TURTLESthemovie.com website, Luke is giving artists and fans of the Turtles a chance to showcase their artwork. That means YOU!! Right now, one of my favorite Turtles fan artists has a ton of his stuff on there! You have to check out Erik Arreaga

Go to the Fan Art page: http://turtlesthemovie.com/fanart.php

And yes, YOU can submit your art to us, too! We'd LOVE to see it. The more the merrier!

So, let's get the POSITIVE energy flowing here! We're making a TURTLES Graphic Novel, people!!! It's going to be rad!! You're going to get to see pages and pages of art and story!

I'll be posting progress everyday on my Twitter, which also updates my Twitter and MySpace, so if you're interested, follow me and be a part of the creation. I DO read all replies and WILL be listening to your thoughts and opinions.

Oh, and just to set the record straight from what was said above:

I'M a comic industry professional and I'm not laughing.

And also, I'm a fan of the project and I DO REALLY hope we get the license.

Now, we don't want to confuse people or get their hopes up too high with the site, so yeah, maybe a banner saying it's a fan-based project is a good idea. Luke, I'm sure you can design it and make it look good without it taking anything away from the professional design.

Anyway, here is my first QUICK sketch of Leo!

http://www.goldengoatstudios.com/pri...rtles/Leo2.jpg

I look forward to talking with all of you and getting to know each other.

*****

Updated to put 1st page of comic on 1st page of thread

I love the whole mood of the concept art and the site.
Way excited for the graphic novel to be completed.
Plus if it releases without the "Official Stamp", whats the difference between this and Dōjinshi?

I say we are all about to get a falcon pwnch from 'You know who' in 3, 2, 1...

Anyway, people who want to knock it down and treat the project like toxic waste give me the creeps. I feel that those who don't support the project are trying to be smart (Not working much, what are you gonna get for it, favor from Nick?) and some just don't have the guts.

Now that we have established proper terms, laying out specifically this is a fan project, is it possible to just lay off? Or shall we continue? Really this is pointless, this project is continuing without most of you whether you like it or not. In the very least appreciate effort, that's more than what you've been doing.

Seems to me like you're pretending to be the upcoming movie.

Not knocking anything about the project, most of your ideas are pretty clever.

Yeah, the site is labeled a "fan-project" NOW, after several people have said something regarding the original deception.

I kind of doubted the legitimacy after reading over several sections of the site several weeks ago. Not to say that I dislike the ideas. I hope one day your projects will become legitimate and then you can laugh in everyone's faces.

haha, yea... you caught us *clap clap*, that's my wife... she is NOT a reporter... (though I might argue she has the "right stuff"), she is actually the VP of a TPA here in Dallas. And yea... the green screen was probably a bad idea, we used a local studio to shoot the interview, but we don't have any chroma key tools, just the built-in Final Cut/AE filters.

Considering we have zero budget and everyone volunteered their time... I am in no way disappointed with the production quality of the interview.

I don't believe it was ever Luke's intention to "pretend" to be the real movie or mislead anyone.

We are professionals who are taking this as seriously as if it were a green-lit official project. Just because it looks as good as if it were official doesn't mean we're being dishonest, it just means that YOU (we) the fans are getting a FAN project that's serious, quality, and will hopefully grab attention of people who CAN make it official.

Anyone seen the JAMES POTTER series? http://www.elderscrossing.com/

Started as a MUCH more misleading fan-site, became at least an approved project by JK Rowling and WB as a free release fan project.

What gives some Hollywood exec more rights to present their project in a quality way? Because he paid thousands to buy the license? No way! That's all business nonsense.

We as fans have more right to represent this project than any exec because we really CARE about these characters and how they are represented. We're not just trying to make a buck.

Again, until this becomes official we are NOT selling anything. That would be illegal. We will attempt to get the license or work with someone who does have it.

And, as I said before, if nothing else, we'll have some fun, new Turtles content on the web for everyone (who wants to) to enjoy!

And yes, we wrote this with the intent to become a foundation for the next TMNT movie.

We have some good friends in the industry (who I will leave anonymous) who have been introducing us to key people and generally just helping us along the way. The possibility is actually there, but as of this moment, we are not on board. We would love to be, but that is simply not the case at this time.

And if all else fails, we will still have some of the most incredible TMNT related artwork on the net thanks to Ray.

No. That's what gives them the right to MAKE MONEY off of a property.

Creating content, using it for proposals and showing it on the web as a fan project is perfectly legal.

Who cares what these guys do with their project? That is why it is their project. You aren't financing anything, you won't be paying lawyer fees, so who cares? At this point in time they are not the basis for the new TMNT flick, they have a 50/50 shot of getting it. Either they do or don't simple as that. So let them do what they want to do and you do you. I think their site is f**king boss and a million times better than old school geocities pages. I don't see why everyone has to crap their pants about what these guys do in their own time. Many of you said you respect the project and think its a great idea but just can't get over the fact that they want it to be backed by a studio.... WHO CARES!!!

And if you are one of the posters that think what these guys are doing is illegal, let's not forget about all the dvr to internet transfers that happened a few weeks ago...

Keep the project going guys, it looks fantastic and I cannot wait for more updates for the novel and the movie.

If this puts some of your minds at ease, I have worked on many licenses properties before and I know a lot about copyrighted materials.

For instance, right now, my wife and I are doing a LICENSED adaptation of the novel "The Last Unicorn" for IDW Publishing. It is directly licensed from the author Peter S. Beagle. You can read about that here: http://splashpage.mtv.com/2009/11/17...rn-comic-book/

We're also working with Jennifer Love Hewitt on "Music Box" again for IDW. Read about that here: http://www.comicbox.com/index.php/ne...music-box-idw/

IDW Publishing is one of the leading licensed property publishers out there and we're working with them on tons of stuff.

I recently worked on GI JOE, Transformers, DC Comics (title tba), Marvel Comics (title tba).

I've personally negotiated a licensing agreement with a few authors, including Brian Lumley and companies like King Features Syndicate.

I know you're seeing this as a fan attempt to do something and copyright issues are confusing, but please trust me, we know what we're doing.
