Archie specials
Are any of these actually good? I had #8, but I hated it and traded it away... So I was wondering if any of them were actually worth reading, or do you guys just go after them for completions sake?

It's a completionist thing. Referring to the quarterlies only, they never add to the main continuity or anything. They're just collections of episodic short stories about the TMNT as interpreted by various extraneous artists. There are some good stories in there, but it's been so long since I read them, I can only guess that they were pretty scattered over the run. The higher the issue number, the better the chance you won't be quite as disappointed.

I'm with Gobo.
My need to complete my collection is far more frothing than my need to see the actual stories. Which isn't to say I'm not really looking for to reading them, because I totally am!

Eh... don't you mean the lower the number the better the chances? I recall the Archie crossover to be good, but after that the rest of the specials were extremely weird and all drawn so horribly...

The regular Archie specials #1-11 aren't that good. They're mostly "Captain Planet" comics where all Murphy does is rant about the enviornment in every issue. They also barely affect the main story.
But the other specials, like the Mutanimals series, the April O'Neil mini-series, Merdude, etc. are all worth getting, and they all tie into the main story. |

From what i've got, some good and some bad. If I remember right, there's some returning characters (a family I think?) and its very 'environmental'. Still, I gotta get them for completions sake!

I own em even though I don't like them (I don't like much of the Archie run). Murphy was at his worst when he was doing his eco-preaching, and that's mostly what these things are. Throw in some "zany" art and surreal nonsense stories and, well, they're all pretty meaningless fluff issues.
They're amusing, I suppose, but entirely skippable, particularly the *other* one-shot specials that aren't part of #1-11. I'm talking about the ones where they go to Riverdale to meet Archie and Josie and the Pussycats, or the one where they meet those insufferable lame-os, the Conservation Corps. Yech. |

I own all of these. They're all pretty horrid. I remember liking some of #10 I think. #1 and #2 have good artwork but the others are quite random. Honestly get them for the covers. I like the cover of #7 but the artwork inside is lame. "It takes guts" has really bad art and that mucus mutant is just wrong.
While there are some lame eco-preachy issues of Archie they are early on in the run and there's not that many of them. Plus around issue 30 the story arc really picks up and carries on like a huge epic almost all the way till the end. I mean the story was pretty interconnected before that too but the eco-preachy jungle issues were quite boring. |

Environmental
Yes, Archie TMNT Adventures comics are much about environmental issues, but never so silly as Captain Planet.

Thanks for the input everybody. I'm not gonna go out of my way to find all these, but the ones that have artists like Stan Sakai, and Bill Fitts (who's art has new meaning to me lol), I'll try to get those.
