The May East Saga?

Are these books worth getting? I'm not even sure if they're canon.

I would say they are worth getting if you are into collecting TMNT comics. I don't particularly care for the art style (it's not bad just kinda off-beat), but the storyline is interesting to say the least.

I believe they were intended to be canon, since May East was included in the Archie Universe Sourcebook and (If I remember) the saga was referenced in April's article. However, I don't remember any other references to the series in the rest of the Archie series' run. I think it was intended to be an explanation for why April was able to progress so rapidly under Splinter's ninja training.

Isn't this the mini-series where April turns into a giant robot?

The art style also makes April look like she's 50 years old for some reason.

Yeah, issue #1 features April vs. May East as giant robots. Issues 2 & 3 features a team-up between the TMNT, April, & Bookworm to save Splinter's brain from May East's possession by going inside his body. Weird stuff, indeed...

Yeah, this mini-series was pretty bad.

The regular April O'Neil mini-series was better, and tied into the main story of the Warrior Dragon.

In the TMNT Adventures Special #11 ("The Fifth Turtle"), one panel shows April talking with the guys about the events of "The May East" saga, and the context given is that she's recounting a dream she's had. It seems the events of May East were retroactively made into some weird nightmare April had had.

Hey, good eye, Honeycutt! I'll have to look into that reference.

Oh, so they retconned that terrible story into a dream?

Good, because it made no sense. I think it said that April had ancestors who could transform into giant oriental robots or something....wtf? April is a normal human in the Archie universe, her finding a secret ability to be a giant robot was retarded.

If they retconned that story to a dream, all the better.

Amen.

And it'd be even better still if Mirage retconned that she's a friggin' drawing.

Poor April. It aint easy being the token human character.

Do you mean that like "she's the only one who's made the cut into EVERY incarnation" or has Mirage written Casey out of the human race too now?

Shhh don't give em ideas... they already made Casey into some split-personality freak... Let's not reveal he was an Utrom all along or something.

I was just leaning on the fact that she's usually the most represented human character, not that there were literally no other ones. Most people think of April as their main friend, not Casey, even though Casey'd probably hang out with them more than April would... how many other friends does the guy have, after all?

Good point, you never see Casey really hang out with anyone other than like Raphael or any of the other TMNT. You'd think he'd at least hang out sometime with humans on Saturdays and play some hockey er something

Her becoming a giant robot thing is no weirder than her love interest being an asian fireman that transforms into a giant dragon...

The Warrior Dragon had a backstory. April is just April, her training with a katana was alright, but she should not have ancient special powers.

I never read Archie Special #11 so I had no idea the May East saga was retconned, I guess even the writers knew that was stupid.

Just noticed somethig hilarious about this mini series. In TMNTA #58 the young turtles are being punished by Splinter and have to pick up garbage in the sewer, in one panel you can see a turtle clutching a comic book that says "May Eas- Sag-"
