It could have possibly came to an end...

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise possibly could have came to an end.And here's why I think that;

There wasn't much released for about 2 or 3 years. Playmates would not release anything new except ugly remakes.Some companies made shirts, hats, etc. But that was nearly all that came out in the last 3/2 years.Wal-Mart stopped carrying TMNT products, and that could've had something to with this.

Mirage Studios, Peter Laird, etc were losing interest in the TMNT, No, they never actually said it. But it was hinted at in their blog posts.This was actually hinted at in a lot of their blog posts.

4kids aired the old 2k3 show, but they've aired that for like 6 years.When they were called "fox box".In 2006 they released Fast Forward, that didn't have many episodes; people got bored of it.EVENTUALLY, they released BTTS, that also had few episodes; once again, that got boring.
They released nothing except Turtles Forever after that. Barely nothing at all happened after that.

And then there was the 25th anniversy of the TMNT; the 25th anniversy didn't spark much more interest in TMNT. sure, there was a few contests, but that obviously wasn't enough to spark any interest.

So, for about 2 years, there were no new TMNT stuff.It made sense, though.TMNT wasn't really that popular at that time. It was dieing out.

If Viacom didn't buy the TMNT, then TMNT would've probably ended. It might have been a good thing that Viacom bought it. But then again, it's possible that it is a bad thing too.

Well I see your points but the TMNT would not have died. This happened before. Twice, maybe 3 times. It goes through cycles, gets re-invented, becomes a craze, fades out, repeats...

Yeeeeahhh, I'll have to call bullsh*t on that one. We had the new movie coming either way, so TMNT would have been "alive" for a few years after that at least.

Unless, of course, it was a dud and/or they didn't back the movie with a videogame, new cartoon show, and toys.

At least this time we know a new movie/cartoon is coming.

When the original series ended, we never knew there would be another cartoon or more movies after that, especially since Next Mutation bombed a year later.

This time we had confirmation of a Nick cartoon right around or a little before the time Turtles Forever aired on TV.

10 years ago

And it was almost the same circa 10 years ago (1987 cartoon cancelled in 1996 and Archie comics cancelled the same year, Next Mutation cancelled in 1998, no movie since 1993, almost no Mirage comics and no toys).

TMNT was Mirages only successful franchise so of course the company was not going to end it, even Laird said it after the show was cancelled that it'd be back again some day. The Turtles weren't going to die since we did have a movie confirmed already and that could have sparked interest for a new show and with an uncertain future of when Playmates would have been able to release TMNT figures again then they might have not cancelled the comic turtles.

I think we should thank the 1980's Retro Wave of the early 2000's for the return of the TMNT franchise.
