Are the Mutanimals just the Teenage Mutant Care Bear Cousins?

It just occurred to me. The Care Bears were all bears. The TMNT were all turtles. The Care Bear Cousins were various, random animals. The Mighty Mutanimals were various, random animals. Of course, the similarities pretty much end there. But, here's my question: seeing as it was Murphy who cobbled together this band of brothers, do you think he had this in mind? After all, peaceniks and conservationists are opposite sides of the same humanitarian/mutanimalian coin. ^_^

Nothing in Care Bears ever suffered death by rocket launcher, though if it did I would be highly entertained. It's possible. I always assumed he noticed that we had this back log of mutants and putting them together into a team made sense.

Well... maybe it's more like the "Titans East" branch of the Teen Titans franchise. But... I can't say the Care Bear connection is unfair.

If the Mutanimals were really meant to be an analogue to the Care Bear Cousins, they would've been lead by this guy.

Killing off the Mutanimals was the most memorable thing that happened to them.

Its too bad Merdude and Ninjara didn't get killed too.

The Mutanimals gang were probably created when Archie begun to deal with Environment Political Issues, so what was better than different Animals saving the Earth?

I liked Ninjara. She was could, and would probably even work in the 1987 cartoon.

I actually blame the drugs. According to Murphy's blog, Contains Traces Of..., he and at some unnamed others were on coke, at the peak of the TMNT's popularity. At least, that's what it implies.

That's kind of ironic considering some people have accused Eastman and Laird of being stoned when they came up with the Ninja Turtles. Then again I'm betting the same could be said for a lot of 80s cartoon characters.
