i know this is pretty a stupid question but i was looking in the custom section ans saw some of the kick shell custom figures i was wondering what kind of tools and supplies would someone use if someone were to make a custom tmnt figure? do you take a factory figure and make mods. to it or start from scratch? do you use modeling clay?

I usually start with an existing figure and just use some fixit sculpt and paint. Others on here start from scratch, it all just depends on what you want to do and how comfortable you are with sculpting I guess.
here is a great link with a ton of info from the basics to advanced stuff Custom action figure tutorial Here is a link for fixit sculpt. Apoxie sculpt is also widely used, you can usually find them in hobby shops too. Fixit Sculpt
