TMNT Vol. 2
Wow just read issues 1-13 for the first time such an awesome story. Lawson knows his stuff. I enjoyed certain parts of Vol. 1 issue 1, Soul's winter (?) return to NY, and City at war. But I enjoyed every issue of this even through the campier stuff.
Anyone just read it or recently reread it? ________ Web Shows Last edited by azrael; 08-12-2011 at 09:46 PM. |

i recently read this volume and was really impressed, unfortunately the final issue or two seemed really really rushed, i just thought the ending could have been done a little better, but i still very much enjoyed it, i actually liked the tmnt in color.

I have most of the issues. I like this series, but I definitely prefer Vol. 1 to it. The storytelling is good enough, but it's hard for me to recall any memorable moments.

I've onyl read through it once, however, I recall being enthralled during the entire Baxter Stockman arc, and then the series just stopping dead once they got into the DARPA stuff.

I'll have to read through the series again, but I wasn't too excited about it the first time through. After City at War, I felt that Vol. 2 really took a dive in the way of story.

Taken after City at War, of course Volume 2 wasn't as good.
However read individually Volume 2 is a pretty good read. I think the fact that it comes directly after City at War is what hurts it. As that was the pinnacle of the Mirage series at the time. |

I was OK with the Vol. 2 run. It was nice to see the TMNT in color but it also made me think you miss the B&W at the same time. Yeah maybe 'cause it was after "City at War" it may have hurt it in comparison. I liked the Baxter plot but the other half was slow. Overall it seemed this was the way TMNT comics became afterwards, Vol. 4 is proof of this. Images Vol.3 run was the only exception. The TMNT comics should be always like this with grit, action and darkness. This was missing in the V2 & V4. Image had it right. Vol.2 suffers as the turtles are in the situation of what to do with themselves after Return to NY and CAW. Its alittle unfortunate that Peter & Kevin always thought this character moment in turtles' life yet we saw all other possibilities from Image's and Tales Vol. 1 & 2 runs proved story wise that there could still be turtles stories of any sort. Look at V4, Peter was disinterested in the turtles needing to still hide from the public, so he fixed that right from the start. V2 is OK but coulda been a little more action and pacing IMO.

I can see where everyone is complaining about it being boring. I loved CAW but for me it was several months between CAW and vol 2 It seemed vol 2 darpa was drawn out for too long then rushed to leave a clean slate for image.

Has anyone else flat-out asked Jim if Volume 2 was rushed toward the end because that is the one thing I've always heard people say: started off a little slow them kicked into hyper-gear on the downswing, causing the series to feel a bit off in terms of wrapping things together nicely.

It's really a shame they couldn't finish where they were going with this series. It's very close to the quality of "City at War," and provides a very natural progression.
My favorite thing about the volume is that Lawson has a great handle on the characters. All the little moments like Leo witnessing the drive-by, Don holding the religious pamphlet, etc, are fantastic. They make this series. We haven't gotten characterization as solid as what mid-'90s Lawson gives us either before or after. And I love the color palette. Very surreal, very '90s. It's a joy to look at. Now, that all said, I read the volume in one sitting earlier last year. Had I waited for each (chronically late) issue, I might have other feelings about it. |

This should have been collected into an omnibus book, along with CaW. Oh well. :/

I wish they would do an omnibus. I would buy them to keep the wear off of the orignials.

the series was very entertaining, although they could have made Casey Jones
a little bit more serious and not a bumbling idiot in the end, i know he was hypnotized, but i think they over did it. |
