Kitten's First Time Ever Next Mutation Custom Repaints

Hello all,

After much hesitation and deliberation I decided to load my three very humble custom repaints only ever done.

These were done when I came out of hospital, and was very ill and had no idea that customising and repainting really existed and was so popular as a hobby in the TMNT world. I had no idea what I was doing having no knowledge on repainting of figures or anything. Now I need to post the three in two sets due to the post not letting me attach over 4 photos. First is Shadow Ninja Raph in his 'Night Ninja Suit'

Materials used:
I found some old acrylic paints and a mini synthetic fiber paint brush set lying around that I had in storage for a long time, and were bought from a news agency when I needed them for a project at school a long time ago! So they are very rudimentary materials!

Back story and inspiration:
I was given basic painting tools by the youth workers while I was in hospital and painted a painting. Being an 'ex' artist I had not piked up a brush or pencil to draw or paint something original for about 12 years, so this was a weird experience. When I got home from hospital while looking through my loose NM doubles I thought lets repaint them, having had the new experience of painting at hospital reignite my artistic creativity and desire to do painting/creative works again, and since I knew I had the basic materials lying around!

I am aware the paintwork is very sloppy - since I had shaking hands as a side effect of my illness and couldnt move my neck to look down properly... it was hard to 'stay in the lines'. Out of the whole three Raph is the best as he was done when I felt much better and wasnt so sick so he came out pretty good. So please dont be TOO harsh! It was my first time, had rudimentary materials, no idea what i was doing, just was passing time!! and gee did i suffer a lot afterward with the strain of doing it making me feel very sick... :*( this is why I dont do more work to be honest... as it results in vomiting... literally.. until i am fixed, if I am ever fixed - if the dr's can do it - I dont think I will be able to do much more despite my massive desire to..

Character in Question:
My original Raph design I called 'Shadow Ninja' Raph, I invisioned Raph as wearing a special suit called a 'Night Ninja Suit' over his plastron and Shell and arms and legs as apart of his new 'uniform', for night time Ninja action... I named him before i found out they had designed and planned a line of unreleased figures for NM that were called 'Shadow Ninja' lol I must have been channeling NM Raph With the design I just chose the colour scheme on what I thought looked good as a new uniform rather than camoflage functionality for night-time hahah...

I am aware the paintwork is sloppy - I had shaking hands and couldnt move my neck to look down properly... it was VERY hard to 'stay in the lines'. So please dont be TOO harsh!

Reflection:
Now i think i kind of wasted the Venus and Mikey figure, as the paintwork is very sloppy - since I was particularly sick that day.... I like the Raph a lot more as he was done when I felt much better that day and as ill, so he came out better. I hope to either get someone to repaint these figures for me or have another go at them as in their current state I really do think they are wasted.. anyone know how to get newsagency acrylic paint off? the kind kids use for paining etc? any thoughts or ideas to help?.... I tried soaking the Mikey in water and scrubbing him with a toothbrush - as this is a second repaint of him since the first was not the right yellow - and it wasnt that good it didnt remove all the paint and i was unable to return him to his factory paint..

Character(s) in Question:
Venus -
I wanted to repaint her since this figure was a cheap loose one and the paint had bad chipping on her breasts and her bandanna plus I wanted a pink themed Venus, the original colour that was chosen for her!! Though please note, I used a lighter pink than the deep hot pink shown in the 1997 catalogue, why? because I had a different reference image and the colour was lighter/slightly off in this one, making it look orangey and I thought the light pink would look better, sort of going with the light blue theme..

Mikey -
This mikey also was a loose with chipping on his bandanna and other parts and I chose to paint him yellow as I always wondered what an alternative 'yellow' themed Ninja Turtle would look like? I wish I could do this to some more to check out what alternative's there would be for other Turtle characters or alternative uniforms - i.e. bandana/arm and leg bands - for our existing and much loved four brothers.

Aww thanks, surely your being a bit too nice tho hahah the lines arent the best thanks for the encouragement anyway, i wish i could do more instead of needing to commission people, but i just get so sick from my neck and things i need to vomit!

PS. about the pink venus I want to do her pink darker like the original official 97 catalouge toy design which was like a hot pink!!! really nice it is!!

Thanks Eiko, I wish I could get some mystical get better tablets and mystical 'talent and knowledge' tablets so I could know how to do much more intricate repaints!! I wanna make a custom foot clan paint for my turtle homies and a custom hum v repaint amongst many others

Hello there, I'm glad you like him, I like him most too. What do you like about him?

Well actually I was looking for weapons for him to make and paint also. My plan was to get the smaller older TMNT sais, as the NM sais are humungos and designed to be snapped together to create like a double ended three pronged bow.. I find this rather cumbersome for fighting, so I switched to the smaller sias. Also, i'd give him some good old ninja stars, some vanishing smoke pellets and a grappling hook type device - small but sturdy, sort of like the pocket sized one mikey used in season 4 and onwards of the original toon series when they didn't want him to be seen using his nunchucks. So he'd have to have a modified belt with a pouch at the sides for the stars and on the back for the small hook device - im not sure how i'd make the hook, though the pellets would just be sort of like Venus' kanji balls (i think they are called that) in size. So it sounds like a lot but its all really compact so he has a full set of gear to handle any situation at night. Here, he sort of takes on the persona of the Nightwatcher, a super hero type figure that fights at night alone and can hold his own easily! Notice the slight red i put in his eyes - thats him all fired up

About my sickness i do too, and I hope to do some of my own work soon too, just play with really damaged loose figures to start with. I need to know whats the best paints and sealants to use?

i like the idea of the turtles wearing black and using more ninja weapons..... i have my next muatation Raph holding a pair of sais from the fast forward Raph and it looks cool....vallejo paint works well.

Those are nifty, KB! I especially like that Raph -- that color scheme is really inspired.
