Cool! You guys wanna say you all have DVD players? Are they so popular in the US? What's the price of one DVD disk?

DVDs are very popular here in the U.S. The price of the DVD usually depends on the movie, but it can range any where from 16 to 30 dollars.

Oh, my! You consider it normal? Well, in Russia the price is about the same (800 roubles, or 25$), but a CD disk is 8 times cheaper (3$). How many TMNT eps would fit into a DVD?

Hmm...I'd say DVDs are a normal sight nowadays. Almost everyone has a DVD player, either hooked up to their TV, or on their computer. A lot of movies are being converted to DVD, even old black & white films. Interesting how the prices are about the same for both of our countries I think a lot of episodes could fit into one DVD, but doing that would usually lower the picture quality. I'd say six episodes on one DVD would be ideal.

Six eps, 25 min each - it makes 2.5 hrs. The same is about a CD: usually a 2.5 hour long movie in MPEG4 format fits in a CD. But how? As far as I know, DVDs should be much more capacious.

Ya, but I think the more data you put on the DVD, the worse the picture quality becomes. I don't know too much about DVDs, though, so I could be completely wrong. Gah, where's HT when ya need her?

DVD's can hold about approx 1.5-2 gigabit of data on a disc (correct me if i'm wrong) and u could prob fit a lot of episodes with standard quality (not dvd quality) but with dvd quality, u could prob fit about 3-5 episodes (20 minutes long cause there is no commercial, that is if including episodes in different languages, dolby digital sound and extras but without all that extras, it should be about 4-7 episodes per disc.

I've looked into the "Newest PC Encyclopaedia" by the Russian writer Vitaly Leontiev. I dunno whether it was translated into English so I'll translate an extract from it by myself:
"The secret of DVD is in its high capacity. Even one-sided one-layer DVD can hold up to 4.7 gigabytes which is 8 times more than a CD can hold. <...> Into one DVD one can fit up to 140 minutes of video with five alternate sound channels in different languages and four channels of subtitles."

You both sound like you've got the right idea. If they do release TMNT cartoon eps on DVD, it looks like we'll end up buying a ton of DVDs.
