Turtles Costume for CC?

Hey everyone, I'm going all out this year at NYCC and dressing as Mikey. My cousins and a friend will be filling in the spots for the other TMNT. I know it's wayyyy early in the year to be planning, but I want this costume to look good and not just hastily thrown together.

The biggest hurdle is definitely the shell and plastron. Do you guys have any ideas that won't cost me an arm and a leg but will hold up well and look good? Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

I can't contribute anything to this thread, but it's cool to know you'll be at NYCC. I'll be there as well!

Word! I'm sure you'll be able to pick me out if this costume idea gets off the ground!

I am hopefully more then likely going also! I haven't done NYCC in two years now and I miss it, it's a great convention.

As for your costume question Donnie, you may want to ask over at the cosplay.com forums. They usually have really good tips for constructing things in an affordable and often easy way.

Good luck!

Get some chicken wire, mold it in the shape of the shell and plastron, then cover that up with some paper mache, then on to painting... Cheap and effective...

That's what I was thinking might work well, something with paper mache. Is chicken wire that hard to mold?

Fearless, I'll check those forums out, thanks!
