Win a Shredder drawing from Hidetsugu Yoshioka

And a Megatron. And a Galvatron.

If you dug Hidetsugu Yoshioka's artwork for the Japanese Super Mutant Turtles and Metal Mutant Turtles story pages from the 90s, TakaraTomy licensee e-Hobby is having a contest where you could win brand new pieces of art from him.

http://www.e-hobbymagazine.com/engli...n_en/3476.html

All you have to do is submit a question via Twitter or Facebook. And it's okay if the question is in English, as they have an employee who will be translating them.

If you haven't seen Yoshioka's TMNT art, You can see a gallery of the pieces here.

He's more famous for his Transformers work, though, and you can see more of it here.

Nice. I hope we all get to see the Shredder picture, regardless of who wins.

EDIT: Nevermind, it's already posted!

EDIT: I wonder if Yoshioka still has his TMNT art, and whether he'd be willing to post it online. Hmm... now that sounds like a good "question" to ask!

I wouldn't mind seeing Nick "loan" out the franchise for another short-lived (but certainly higher quality!) anime series, kinda like how Marvel has done with their X-Men and Iron-Man series.

While I'd love to win that Shredder artwork, I'm not sure it's worth creating a twitter or facebook account just for this one contest...

They are simply the official accounts of E-Hobby Shop. The Yoshioka interview/contest is only tied to a couple posts that relate to it. The Facebook has posts going all the way back to March of last year.

Maybe theyll do a spinoff as a reality comedy with April, Casey, and other humans.

Ugh, that would be awful. When it comes to sitcoms, Nick really hasn't been doing well for the last couple of years, with a few exceptions of course. But I'd love a new anime series with the turtles. Anyway, sweet looking drawings.

I think what Ravenxl7 meant is that he's not sure if it's worth HIM (Ravenxl7) creating a Twitter or Facebook account, just to have the chance to enter this one contest. (I could've misconstrued his meaning, though.)

Yeah, that notion makes a lot more sense.

If so, then I fully support Ravenxl7's sentiment! Kudos to anybody who can resist the allure of social media!

That's exactly what I meant. I had a facebook account once, and as great as this artwork is, it's not worth going back to that.

Only social media/network I'm a part of is Google+, and I actually have a hard time calling it a social network. I'm no more social on it than I am in real life, and the only people in my circles are those I actually know. As far as I'm concerned it's essentially an extension of my email.

Part 1 of the Yoshioka interview is up:
http://www.e-hobbymagazine.com/engli...n_en/4599.html

Not many TMNT references thus far, except this:
Quote:
I don’t think my work evokes Wildman, visually speaking. When I had been working on “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” my style was influenced by Jim Lee, but what should I compare it to now…? It’s kind of a mix between Frank Miller and John Romita Jr.

I guess the winner of the Yoshioka art pieces is still yet to be announced.

EDIT:
Part 2 is up:
http://www.e-hobbymagazine.com/engli...n_en/4726.html

Part 3 should be up by August 17, and it will include some fan questions on his TMNT work!

Alright, True Believers, Part 3 of the Yoshioka interview if finally up, and there's some TMNT discussion this time.
http://www.e-hobbymagazine.com/engli...n_en/4847.html

He actually answered my question! Sadly... neither DrSpengler nor I won the Shredder piece.

Quote:
From Facebook: “I am a big fan of your Ninja Turtles art in the 1995 Comic Bom Bom issues. Your work on those comic pages differed greatly from the two-episode anime OVA and the Dengeki Comics adaptation. For instance, in your comic, Casey Jones appears and both Splinter and April O’Neil were transformed by the MutaStones. Did you follow a specific script that called for these events? If so, did the animation studio or manufacturer provide this story?”

Yoshioka: The story itself was already decided. However, there was no indication that Casey appeared in it. April was slated to appear in the story, but having her be mutated into a cat was my own whim. (Laughter) For Casey Jones, I think there was an instruction to include motorcycles in the story, and I just threw him in for good measure. I really wanted to get details from the original version in there.

Was the story itself provided by the Japanese manufacturer, Takara?

Yoshioka: It was from the Comic Bom-Bom editorial staff. After it was turned in, I’m not really sure what kind of process it went through with the manufacturer.

Did all the work you submitted go through with no problem? No one said, “Use a different character instead of Casey Jones”?

Yoshioka: Actually, I think they flat-out said “Don’t use Casey Jones.” I mean, he originally wasn’t even mentioned in the story. (Laughter)

That was an Easter egg for the fans, then?

Yoshioka: At my request, they put in a section of the story where Casey could have a scene. (Laughter) I’m sure kids had no idea who he was. I just really liked the character after seeing the live-action movie.

Here's some of Yoshioka's contributions to the TMNT manga-verse that he mentioned in the interview:

Congratulations dude! It's neat seeing a B&W Shredder in a similar style to the 2003 Shredder. He just seems much more real and authentic when drawn by the Japanese.
