TurtleCon

Now that turtles is picking up speed, I think it would be the best time for a TMNT convention, Transformers has botcon, we can have TurtleCon! I remember Peter Laird talking about a turtlecon back in the day, and I also saw shirts, I guess it was only like a one year deal though.
I've heard about Laird going to comic book store signings n' stuff, and I'm sure he would love to go to a TurtleCon again! The whole Mirage team, and maybe even Playmates would show up! I think someone who is rich should step up and make a turtlecon, or all of us band together to try and rent a convention center or something. It can be done, and it's not all that expensive. The convention could probably pay for itself, all we would have to do is run ads in toyfare and try and get dealeres to sell tmnt stuff. Have a little room where we can watch tmnt, and then have a little video game station where people can play the game. I'm sure we could get someone from 4kids or konami to come too. This could be huge! SOMEONE RICH, HELP US :p It'd probably cost like 3 grand or so to get it started :/

Not a bad idea, but what would it consist of? Not that I don't have any faith, that is...

I'm for it in any case.

Yeah.. it'll be sweet if Mirage could have another convention event that is solely based on the TMNT, like for mentioned fandoms.

I read in many places that Laird is not game for traveling or mingling with fan crowds. The signing they did a month ago was like as close as they'll get to that now.

However... at the Motor City Comic Con in Detroit (coming up next weekend) a bunch of us fans are going to have a TMNT fan booth there. We've set up a booth for 2000 and 2001 too, but we're usually too broke or unfortunate to get any big name Mirage TMNT guests to appear. In 2000, we had the actor for Raph from TNM and Frank Fosco come. This year we have Mark Bode and perhaps a Foxbox VA be the guests. The fangirl in charge likes to call this Turtle con, when it's actually just a comic con with a TMNT fan booth. *shrug*

This could be fun!

Some ideas:

get the old voice actors, the actors from the movies, and the new voice actors together to talk to fans.

get Playmates to debut some new figs or something around those lines

get Konami to set up Koisiks (little stands with a TV and a game system) with the new TMNT game, and maybe set up a whole room/area with old ones and see who can pull off the highest score.

convince the Mirage guys to come. From what HT said Laird dosen't like doing stuff like that, but maybe if he and the other people working on the comic are up on a stage doing a Q&A session they would. Also get them to advertise in the intro for the comics.

movie room, all TMNT all the time. Also hold a "viewers choice" for the best episode of the first 'toon.

Hold a fan art contest there with random TMNT prizes.

Dealer room for people to pick up old figs and comics and do some selling or trading.

if the CCG or Heroclix figures are out hold a tournament for those games. maybe sealed play so new players can get started.

I'm seriously hoping for a TMNT excuse to drive out to Noho next year for the 20th anniversary. What a party!

Gwgtrunks >> Wow.. some of those ideas would sound cool for an offical Mirage Trutle con to pick up. Usually us fans are too broke to pull off stuff like that. But we do hold trivia contests and raffles to get TMNT goodies with. The TMNT art contest sounds like a sweet idea too. I'll see if we can do that this weekend.

All of that would kickass! IF this did happen and was done by fans I'd love to help. I could run the tournaments. Ya!

Gwgtrunks: Maybe they could also hold an area where people could play a few rounds of the original console games (for a small charge) and/or someone could bring their arcade cabinet(s) of either of the arcade games and host a "mini arcade"

The idea of having a TurtleCon or some TMNT convention is totally awesome. I support it 100%. Money, etc....could be a problem.

Not to be a sinic or anything, but I just don't see a Turtlecon being in the very near future. TMNT would have to gain more popularity before something like this happens. Just my $.02 though.

20th anniversary, 1 season of new show, another season on the way, this actually is realistic!

If I interpreted your last comment correctly, you mean to look into organizing something yourself? I don't wish to be discouraging, but please don't. I have enough issues with Turtle"Con" (which is really a booth) as it is.

I would only attend an official event organized by Mirage Studios. UNLESS someone organized an informal TMNT fan gathering. No booths, no guests, no pleas for money, no begging for the return of the tmnt, no claiming your little booth saved the TMNT; just a lot of TMNT fans in one location who could enjoy discussion face to face rather than through a keyboard.

I love your idea, Rose! It would be so cool if we could all meet up in Jersey or somewhere.

Umm have you ever heard of botcon? That's what i'm talking about. Hasbro didn't start botcon, some fans did, i wouldn't expect mirage to ever hold a turtlecon...

Mm.. yes, good point, Pweee.. eh, Paul. Fans rule! Too bad the TMNT community isn't near as advanced and organized as the TF one... *sai*

But as for the Turtle booth at the Motor City con... that's just what we do now. Us fans who did come get to meet in person again. We'll do our little part at the booth to let people know that Turtles still exist, that Leo's mask was really once red in Mirage comics, and that the new Dreamwave comic is not a movie!

Then afterwards we hang out, watch videos in our hotel rooms, eat pizza, make wierd cakes, and otherwise loose the meaning of what it is to sleep. Totally loved watching last week's ep surronded with those I know from the net too.
