Exclamation Question to anyone with TMNT 1987 DVDs

Hello everyone! I am new to the Technodrome Forums, but have been an avid turtle fan for over 20 years. I hope to become a regular contributing member of these boards. I have a somewhat odd request for any of you who own volumes 1 & 2 of the original TMNT 1987 cartoon on dvd:

I recently decided to take the initiative and complete the dvd collection of the original TMNT cartoon, after all, what better time than now since the final season was just released? I already had volumes 1 & 2, which were given to me by a friend shortly after their release. However, after purchasing volumes 3, 4, 5, 6, and seasons 4, 9 and 10 (odd order, I know) I'm beginning to think someone may have switched my vol. 1 & 2 dvd cases for some reason. They may have even been switched before they were given to me. Since the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was the defining show of my childhood, I want my dvd collection to be perfect!

Can anyone who owns these sets please post pictures of the original dvd cases? I need an angle showing the spine that opens and a shot of the cases open with the disc removed. Thanks to everyone in advance!

Hi, new guy. Sorry, but I'm not a photographer. What makes you think your cases were switched?

The cases on my first two volumes are completely different from the rest of the series. The opening spine looks different and the cases don't have the holes cut in them to save plastic.

*EDIT*

Please forgive the quality, but here are two quick pics i snapped with my phone showing the difference between the first two volumes and the rest of the series. (Seasons 2 & 3 shown)

I'll admit, when i saw the turtle van collector's case I got pretty excited, but I was kinda weighing out my options. If I got the Complete Collection in the turtle van, it would cost less but I'd be sacrificing all the packaging art from the individual releases. Then I stumbled upon a review for it from someone who had received theirs early that said the van was flimsy and the discs got scratched easily from the packaging, as is the case with most of these things.

So anyway, I decided to grab the individual sets and as of now am only missing seasons 5, 6, 7 and 8.

Follow up question: Does anyone know where to order these from to make sure they come with their slipcovers?

Oh, I thought you meant the spine spine. From a person who collected each volume as it came out, they didn't start using the cheaper cases 'til S7. So, I guess they retroactively started using them for everything at some point. It's really nothing to worry about IMO.

The slipcases have probably been discontinued on the older releases, I assume.

Thank you for the response. I understand what you're saying. I hope I'm not being too annoying with this, but if you cant post a pic, would you check to see if your cases are like mine? I just want everything in my Turtles collection to be right, you know? I already may end up re-buying vol. 1 & 5 for their slipcovers lol.

No prob. Like I said, the cases with the recycle symbol cut into them weren't used until Season 7. Not the Complete S7, but the individual 'slices'. Also, all the DVDs after S3 have had slipcovers. Volume 1 did as well.

Excellent. So to confirm, your volume 1 & 2 cases are the same as mine?

I guess I fail to see why it matters. DVD companies use several different types of cases. I'm sure if we all posted pictures of our volumes we'd have plenty of variations. As long as it's in an unbroken case, you should be fine.

Sorry guys, I can see I'm being a little frustrating. I hope I haven't made too bad an impression for my first thread lol. I don't know, maybe its the collector in me. I've become very anal about these things over the years while amassing one of the biggest pro-wrestling toy & memorabilia collections in the world. I know at the end of the day it doesn't affect anything and it only really matters to me. I was just curious. Oh well.

You're not the only one anal about certain details. That's part of being a collector. We all have our specific quirks about things.

& welcome aboard, by the way.

I know the recyclable symbol cases bugged me, but i also have this anal retentive tick to remove the sticker from the top of the case and putting it on the inside of the case itself....still not sure why, so I guess I should shut up about wanting the "right" case.

Yeah only the first releases had slip covers, I believe V.1 and Vol. 4 had them the others didn't though, Season 4 also had it, not sure if that one was discontinued. All of the early releases had inserts too, rather lame ones with only the episodes but that's what they had.

I looked at my volumes, all bought when they were first released. 1-5 look exactly like your volume 2. My volume 6 has a normal 'spine' like the picture of your volume 3, but without the recycling plastic saving stuff inside.

I bought all of the OT DVDs earlier this year and all the single DVD cases have the minimal plastic cases (Volumes 1-6, Season 7 Parts 1-4, and Seasons 8-10).
