Open up the wrapping !?

A topic that has sooner or later everyone in mind that buys action figures...

Do you open your action figures or keep them like they arrive?

Once there was a show of "Big Bang Theory" where this was also a topic.. It made me think again about. I'am really fascinated by the value of wrapped toys today, but i think i don't want to keep 'em wrapped. I like to pose around with Action Figures, the child in me wants to be satisfied too.

Maybe i wouldn't open a figure if it has no value to me because i don't like her (April o' neil figures for example - just my view, no offense against this character).

What is your view to this? Maybe you are already a collector who buy always a figure twice for both ways?!

I buy two of each. One to open and "play with" and one to keep in the package. I like the overall presentation of figures in their packaging.

I open pretty much all of my figures, because I would rather play with them. Plus I don't want any of my toys to go all Stinky Pete on me...

Occassionally I will buy multiples and keep a figure in the packaging or certain things I will buy specifically to keep in the box. But 90% of the time I buy a toy and I play with it

I always free all my toys from their plastic and cardboard prisons.

Any new toy will get opened......very soon after purchase.

However, any vintage figures I come across still on the card, I usually leave on the card since most vintage figures can still be bought loose for only a few dollars

If it's an original in the package, it stays in the package. The rest I open to play with.

I never open wrapping. It's hard enough to find loose TMNT in my country.
So whenever i find boxed/wrapped one it's stay this way

I know this is probably not the best answer you are going to want to hear, but it really all depends on you.

There are many different collectors who keep their figures MOC and who display them loose. It really all depends on what you plan on doing with them in the future:

Are you going to sell them ? If so then the best bet would be to keep them carded since they are worth a lot of money. Soft head figures, Toon Shredder, the NECA Turtles and Scratch are great examples

Are you going to pass them down to your children ? If so you can keep them either carded or loose.

If it's all about space then I would suggest you take them out since the blister cards are wide. However, the blister cards make the figures stand out more with their beautiful designs and mini portrait bios on the back and personally I love seeing a wall filled with carded TMNT figures.

Also take into consideration that you may misplace an accessories and you would have to dust them on regular basis (regardless if they are closure). But you would have to also dust the carded figures to so it's a catch - 22.

If you have a pet or a small child, then displaying loose figures can be a problem, unless they are high up on a shelf then that shouldn't be an issue.

I don't have the money, as most people on here do to purchase two of every figure. Considering old figures go for a lot more money (I cringed when I still see the price tag for a $4.99 Turtle figure and the price on ebay is $24.99).

If I had a big enough room, and met a woman who understands my Turtle obsession then I would display them loose. It's a lot cheaper. If I had an extra room I filled it from floor to ceiling with Turtle figures MOC. That goes for the 1988, Next Mutation, 2003, NECA and 2012 figures. All carded.

So really it's all up to you. Everyone is different. As I read you like to play with your figures, I see nothing wrong in that, so my suggestion would be to keep them loose.

I hope this helps.

Ah, it was not like a question about help..i was just interrested how you guys do it. Nah, i can't say i play with them, but doing some nice poses satisfiy me. And if you ask me, a nice posed turtle looks better as decoration than a turtle in the blister...but that's just my point of view.

I understand. I apologize for misinterpreting your post. I agree that a nicely displayed posed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle figure, is a lot nicer looking then a carded turtle. I actually wish the display set of the 1984 first Mirage issue so I can display my classic collection (which are together with all my other Turtle figures). I am sure it is now hard to make but I have very little artistic abilities.

Since I rarely buy new stuff at the stores, when I do I usually keep it in the packaging since it can prove that I purchased the figures in their original release to show that I was there, and that in the future loose versions will appear cheaper somewhere else. I'd rather sell a MOC figure for more money than open it, as the only figures that will remain opened were the ones I opened as a kid since I had no concept of collectors value and enjoyed my childhood. Once I have children, I would open up the wrapping if my sons/daughters need assistance, since it is their passage of childhood that occurs.
