Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation airing on the Hub starting January 12
Quote:
Weird news, I guess they want to cash-in on the new turtles revival and they have some deals with Saban Brands since Transformers Prime a Hasbro/Hub property is airing on the Vortexx. I wonder if Fred Wolf will try to also air the cartoon they own on another network. This was always the reason I thought Nick bought the 2k3 cartoon, not because they had any intention airing it (as they've shown) but they didn't want 4Kids to keep airing the show when Nick was airing their new show. |

Haha, that's pretty interesting. Happy to see it get another chance, even if it's just to be met by the same fate.

This is ... bizarre.
I guess Hasbro figured "Why not?" with the success Nick is having with the Turtles. It's unfortunate that the only version they have access to is barely fit to air. |

I just hope that NM doesn't give the New show a bad rap in some weird way.

Oh lawd!!! I'm sure I'll end up watching it. It was the only TMNT available on Netflix so I watched it with my 6 year old daughter. She loves Venus (hopefully she'll grow out of that).

Despite being the black sheep, airing on the same day as new Nick episodes could provide some with rediscovering this series. Since it only lasted 26 episodes, there isn't much to repeat from which means that it will probably cycle through two times at the most to make way for other shows. In a way its similar to airing Movie III, which while it was a universe killer back then, still has support nowadays. One question is if they will be using the old or the new logo as seen on the DVDs.

Wow. This is interesting, but since I don't get the Hub, I won't be watching it. I probably wouldn't watch it anyway.

So instead of seeing the original toon or the 4kids show airing, we get....THIS.
Considering the show only has 26 episodes, they're going to blow through it rather quickly. What are they going to do, rerun the same 26 eps over and over? |

Well the Hub obviously has some deal with Saban Brands which they don't with Nick (2k3) or FW (OT) so it's what they wanted to air from Saban brands. They'll probably blow through the show once or twice and then air another Saban brands property, who knows it could really catch on but if it does they'll just replace it with another Saban AmeriToku like Beetleborgs or Power Rangers since they obviously can't ask for new episodes of TNM.
Weren't they also airing DCAU shows and X-Men:E? Those shows are also finished and advertise non Habsro properties but they wanted to air them because they were popular franchises. |

Well...that was unexpected. Hard to say this has me too excited when there's Animaniacs to look forward to, but I may give it a watch or two just to finally see more than the first 3 or so episodes I've seen.
...I'm going to regret it, aren't I.

I wish the show kept the Foot Clan around. That's why I like the first two eps more than all the others.
Seems to me that they got rid of all the TMNT characters except Splinter and the Turtles, and replaced all the villains with Power Ranger type characters. To think this show could have given us a live action Baxter, Rat King, Leatherhead or even April and Casey. To be honest it barely felt like a Turtle show. |

TNM has some pretty decent redeeming episodes and characters. It's definitely worth a watch at least more than the first 3 episodes, there's some episodes that are far worse than the first 3 but there are also better ones. If you like the foot, the episode where Shredder comes back is pretty neat. We got a Baxter Stockman of sorts with Dr. Quease, his episodes are hit or miss, usually miss but when he's used correctly he was a nice replacement for Stockman. Sure TNM didn't have many of the TMNT staple characters but is that necessarily a bad thing? It created new rogues which is always good for any franchise, it's basically what the OT did and if anything the most memorable characters from 2k3 were original like Bishop. All the characters created by TNM definitely feel like they belong there. They all got hit by the "giggle ray" that the OT turtles did in Turtles Forever but if you can get passed that it's a decent show. I'd love to see those characters written to their full potential in the new comic or the new show, it'd be a shame to continue wasting some of the characters. Bonesteel/Silver could all be fan favorites if given a chance and others like Dragonlord and Dr. Quease also show plenty potential. And even someone as generic as Vammi would fit right in along other generic villains 2k3/Nick have done in their respective shows.
Interestingly enough Nick has exclusive rights to the new PR shows for at least 2 more years and has plenty of deals with Saban brands, theoretically a second crossover of TMNT/PR is possible as it was back in the day when TNM aired. I doubt it'll happen but the chances are higher than they've ever been and probably ever will since PR's will likely move to a different place (Vortexx/The Hub) after the contract is over. |

So, Nick doesn't own the Next Mutation? Anyways, I think it's kind of weird they are doing this...I hope it doesn't confuse kids as to why there is a female turtle/why it's live action/different continuity etc.

Why would they be confused? Were you confused as a kid that the movies were different from the show or that TNM which aired immediately after the OT was also different? Were you confused that BTAS was different from the also airing Superfriends Batman?

Oh, I don't know, maybe because one show has a 5th turtle and the other one doesn't? Or that Shredder isn't there? The two shows are completely different and kids would not know which continuity to follow etc.

Well Superfriends aired alongside BTAS and they have clearly different versions of Batman, hell more recently we had Young Justice and BATB with different versions of batman.

I'm not sure what to say about this. I feel this will be a bad idea. Is the Nick series still going to do well with this other crapfest on the Hub? I hope this doesn't make the recent show get a bad reputation because of TNM. Why? Why this again? There were only 26 episodes! Do we really want this to happen?
Unless, this is to be done so the Nick series can get more viewers. It might make sense. I mean, TNM only has 26 episodes. I don't know. This just bothers me. ![]() UPDATE - The Nick series, where I live, is mostly on at 11:00 through 11:30. TNM is on at "1:30-2 p.m." That's later after the Nick series is over for the day. Well, that part makes me feel better.

I've already got the whole thing on DVD, so this doesn't really affect me at all. However, due to the exposure, this could potentially lead to artifacts of NM leaking into one or more of the series' newer incarnations.
Which reminds me, wasn't 2K3 supposed to air for a few months prior to 2012 on Nickelodeon? Did that ever actually happen?
