OT ep: The Sword of Yurikawa

This episode deals with another magic sword, but different from the one in "The Ninja Sword of Nowhere" from Season 3. This is another one of those gems from Season 6.

What I like about this episode is how Splinter, Shredder and the French weapon thief guy all try to steal the same sword, and replace it with a "Fake" version in the museum. The Turtles battling the French guy in his mansion all with booby traps was also cool.

I also love how Splinter goes undercover in this episode and attacks the Turtles with the Sword of Yurikawa which is able to generate flames. Seeing episodes where Splinter tests the turtles without them knowing it was him are rare in the OT, and this was quite interesting. The Turtles try to attack Splinter thinking he's a villain but then Splinter bows and hands them the sword when he is asked to surrender.

Also has a nice finale on a bridge where all the cables are being cut and the turtles almost fall into the river, and a nice short Splinter Vs. Shredder fight.

I liked this episode. Krang kept bugging Shredder to blow up the bridge the other way instead of with the sword. If Shredder had listened to Krang instead going after the sword, they probably would have won for once.

The sword of Tengu from the 2003 series always reminded me of the sword of Yurikawa.

It certainly is interesting that Shredder and Splinter happen to know so much about Japanese mystical artificacts. There were times when Shredder knew off the bat what an artifact's capabilities are and it took some time for Splinter to figure it out. This one, it was Splinter who knew the sword's full capabilities long beforehand as it could be used for good.
