Remember the Punk Frogs?

Remember the punk frogs from the 1987 cartoon?
Attila the Frog
Genghis Frog
Rasputin the Mad Frog
Napoleon BonaFrog

I may be the only one but I loved these guys and I kinda wish that they give them a comeback.

Not everyone has seen the original cartoon and some people don't even remember them.

You are not the only one. They are my personal favorite allies and wish to see further use then a handful of original cartoon episodes and half made into figures. I'm not sure the best way to have them return but return is a must! They have potential and can serve as team B at times.Fun characters in need of furthur usage!

I have some idea on how to include them in the new cartoon. Perhaps having four foot soldiers that Shredder didn't give a crap about and mutate them into frogs. Shredder pit them against the turtles and sometime in the show the frogs get tired of the Shredder harsh treatment and they jumped to the turtles side.

I'll bet no one could identify each frog by name from memory alone. The FW show probably could have done a little more to give them distinctive looks other than each wearing multi-colored shirts.

To be honest I always figured Napoleon Bonafrog was the only good one. He starred in a few episodes solo and got the first toy.

The frogs were named after historical figures just like the turtles were. I know Napoleon Bonafrog was named after Napoleon Bonaparte and Genghis Frog was named after Genghis Kahn. I never knew who Rasputin or Atilla were named after though.

I love their southern accents.

The Punk Frogs were cool. Great episode with Leatherhead.
Like the Turtles, unless you spent any time paying attention, you wouldn't know which was which. They did follow the Turtle toy concept of having different green shades. The tv Turtles were all the same color !!
It would be cool to have them back and introduced like this.

The shadows. Four darkened figures in the background, and the line, in a southern accent..
"no, they ain't, We are the Kung Fu Frogs", and the they come hoppin and choppin out if them there shadows

Maybe the Ghengis didn't sell. They went all out with him tho, changing his toon design and making him a cool figure.
They could have released a set of all four, using same mounds and did the color thing and painting their shirts differently... Hmmm, there's an idea. I could pick up a few spare Napoleons and custom them up!

Yep! I totally remember them! I always loved the episode where the left over mutagen in the water created a fountain of youth. I think it's "Leatherhead: Terror of the Swamps". The water made Mike hyper. One of my favorite scenes.

Oh, you're SO wrong. Genghis' toy came out in 1989 while the card backs still only had a few characters on them; Napoleon came out in 1990 after they started adding a second character to the card back.

This was already done many years ago, and the pictures are still out there somewhere I'm sure. In answer the question about why they weren't all produced as toys, at that point Playmates probably wanted a wider variety of non-turtle mutants and couldn't justify making four different frogs. Genghis and Napoleon look nothing alike as it is, with the exception of their clothing being somewhat similar. I did think it was cool that they put out Napoleon a year later, I guess Genghis was a test run and he sold really well. They must have sold a lot of Storage Shell Donatellos

No. Nobody on this TMNT forum, especially this section for talk of the old cartoon, remembers the punk frogs.

Seems like I saw a guy do some toon accurate Punk Frog repaints a while back. He did quite a few awesome TMNT figure customs, but unfortunately, I can't seem to find his website at the moment.

Pretty good job and I too wish we had all four frogs. What was with the redesign with Napoleon? He looks nothing like his fellow frog!

I loved the Punk Frogs and like many others were sad they did not receive figures for Attila and Rasputin. My collection always felt incomplete as a child.

I loved that there was a mirror image group similar to the turtles but amphibians.

I wish the Frogs got more play on the series, they never seem developed and were only seen as a team twice. There were so many opportunities for world building such as Where is their lair? What other enemies do they have? Do they have vehicles? I personally have loved a swamp boat.

I really hope the Punk Frogs reappear on the Nick version at some point.

I didn't really like the Frogs as a team but I understand they were created to be a foil to the TMNT.

If Nick ever brings them back, I hope its only Napoleon Bonafrog. He was really the only one that actually mattered.
