Trixie The Red-Eared Slider Turtle

I volunteered last evening at the Children's Campout, and in the staff office there, they had a red-eared slider turtle there in a fish tank along with some fish. Trixie swum around in the water, occasionally sticking her snout out through the surface to breathe.

Do red-eared slider turtles spend most or all of their time underwater? I thought turtles lived part of their time on land?

RES are aquatic turtles and they spend most of their tiime in water....but most like to have an area where they can climb out and bask.

Turtles, like most reptiles, need UVA and UVB full spectrum lighting to keep healthy if they are in captivity. (Outside the sun gives them everything). If all she has is a flourescent aquarium light, that's no good. She needs a reptile spotlight too. And a nice sturdy log or slate shelf to bask under.

If Trixie has really long front claws, it's a boy if not it's a girl.

what Katie said, a RES should have a dry spot where it can completely dry itself and get the required lighting.
