What kind of speculations do people have for Donnie's character in season 2?

Donnie has done a lot of growing in this past season. All the turtles have, but even so there is still room for him to develop more as a competent ninja in his own right, and as a member of the team.

It appears that Donnie's character in particular is being set up for quite a few huge things that will effect him mentally and emotionally. Some of it will effect his standing in his family. So what kind of development are you expecting or speculations in events in the upcoming season.

DonO'Neil relationship:

Rob Paulsen has indicated that Donnie will still be crushing on April. Though he will be stepping up his A-game when Casey shows up. I agree that Casey and April are more or less the cannon couple since Casey has been April's main love interest in past incarnations. But in the previous incarnations it's been more or less expected that April and Casey would end up together because of the age difference between April and the Turtles. This incarnation April and the Turtles are in the same age range, so Casey officially has a contender for April's affections.

As much as I do like the idea of Donnie and April possibly being a couple, there are some things that do turn it off for me. First off is the Geek meets Girl reactions Donnie has been having through out the seasons. In the first episode Donnie had approached his companionship with April rather maturely and other then blushing awkwardly a couple times there was still a potential chemistry there.

Second of all, I have a belief that Donnie's relationship with April and Casey will mirror the love triangle between Hamato Yoshi/ Teng Shen/ Oroku Saki.

In past incarnations while Casey has been buddies with Raph, he has had friendly relationships with the other turtles as well. And in some incarnations things of all four turtles as the younger brothers he never had.

Hamato Yoshi & Oroku Saki were once friends and even thought of each other as brothers. Until they fell in love with the same woman, when Saki saw the woman loved Yoshi more he let his jealousy fester into hatred resulting the woman being lost to them both.

However in Donnie's he deeply cares for April and would do anything for her, even give his life if needed. However he has more to lose in fighting Casey for April's affections, because that will result in him not only losing what companionship he has with April. He would potentially risk any trust or respect his family has for him.

Pacifist nature
This has often been a character trait of Donatello's character. It has been lightly touched upon in Metalhead but never quite addressed, and it would be interesting to have this aspect potentially explored a bit more.

Brotherly relationships
We've seen some development in the brotherly relationships department, such as Raph & Donnie's relationship in Operation: Breakout and the montage that contained a moment with Leo and Donnie talking strategy in Showdown part 1.
