Cool Raphael the most caring brother?

I mean yeah he's pretty flawed with his temper and short sighted judgements, but overall, deep down, he truly cares for them all. I mean look at these:

Sure they all care for each other, but none of them had these one-on-one heart-to-heart talks like Raph did. And that comforting hand touch, aww..

#FEELS

I wish April would have these moments too.. I digress.

Ironic really, I won't deny this version of Raph is the first cartoon incarnation to be overly worried about his Brothers. but he also might be the biggest jerk out of all Raph's I find it very amusing.

Now that you mention it. Yeah, I enjoy those moments with Raph too.

Out of curiosity, from which episode is the scene with Leo and Raph (has the thunderman logo) and the one where Raph places his hand on Mikey's shell? (Mikey's back is turned to us)

Raph had his kind moments and moments where he would worry about his brothers in the 2003 version.

For example when Donnie undergoes that seconded transformation, and the Turtles are informed by Leatherhead he is unable to cure him.

Raph says: That's it, the next time I see Bishop I'm sticking my foot so far...
then Leo interupts indicating that what Raph was going to say next was not "kid friendly"

But then again in that version Raph mainly had it out for Leo and Mikey. Donnie he had no real problems with.

I however do agree that this version of Raph he has become a bit more of a comforter. He can be still be a di** at times, but he also knows when his brothers need a shoulder to cry on or just someone to put them back on the right track again.

Yeah, 2k3 Raph deeply cared for all his brothers as well, I really liked that about him and in that regard he's the same as 2k12 Raph. And in the 2k12 series Raph often seems to have the same kind of issues with Leo and Mikey as in 2k3.

Yes, I like that Raph is very caring toward his brothers and that he shows a different side with them sometimes. Sure, he can tease and rag on them, but at the end of the day, he still loves them and shows it in his own way. Same goes for 2K3 Raph like when he almost cried at the thought of losing Leo.

Yeah, Raph in every incarnation has been the caring or more sensitive of the four in some way, so this isn't something new or 2012-exclusive.

I'll admit it was hard to get behind this iteration of Raph at first because the writers must've really liked to exaggerate his 'attitude' bit towards anyone who wasn't Spike or maybe Splinter, until New Friend, Old Enemy at the end where he was the one to comfort Mikey as well as being the first one to realize he was in danger. And since then, some sweetness to the character has been sprinkled every now and then, which I find much better. At some point, they realized Raph is meant to be a Jerk with a Heart of Gold with both sides being equally represented.

I think it's sort of a way to punch the point home. For most of his time onscreen Raphael is hardcore, rude and rough with people so when he has a moment where he stops and says something kind, it really grabs you. I think it's to show that deep down anyone can be good. Of course, one of Raph`s defining features is his extreme emotions. Maybe not in the Nick show, but other versions have been known to be either really angry or really kind. He's always sort of up and down so maybe this is the kid friendly version of that? Just my opinion.

So I guess he's a jerk BECAUSE he cares. Remember when you guys had teachers like that?

Then again, he might not really mean to be a jerk.

I wouldn't go so far as to say Raph's the most caring brother, but he's always been the most emotional of the four.

Yeah, I think so too. In the 1990s movie he has the strongest reaction to Splinters kidnapping - the same thing happens after Leos kidnapping in the 2007 movie, and he almost cries in "Tales of Leo" from the 2k3 show, when he thinks Leo is gonna die.

There's many other examples of him having the strongest outburst of emotions when something happens to one of his brothers or Splinter - and is the most eager for revenge. And of course his rage-issues.

But I do think it's a more caring/comforting Raph we see in the Nick show. I like that when one of his brothers is really bummed out, he can step up and be a bro. It makes a good balance to his sarcastic wit (which is one of my favorite things about him)

I'm pretty sure he's the first character we see cry in the original Mirage books. Raph's just...an exposed nerve of a guy, and just appears to default to anger.

Mirage, original film and 2k3 are obviously the most extreme versions of his personality, but the fact that he's the most emotional and unstable of the four is what makes it so difficult for him to open up and show how he really feels. He's always putting on this tough guy persona but underneath it all he is the most caring of the four, in my opinion - he just finds it difficult to show it. He's like an egg with a hard shell and a soft centre, peel away the layers and you see what he's really like. His true nature comes out when he drops his barriers e.g. when Don disappears in Notes from the Underground he is the one who screams out (and that for the brother who he supposedly has least in common with).

I feel the above is why he's so popular. Many might think it's because the 'hardman' act appeals to the male desire to be alpha, or the female desire to date a dominant man (turtle), but it's moreso that he's incredibly relatable. Many people bottle up their feelings or don't know how to express them. People see that in Raphael and can connect to his sense of angst and existential issues. Ironically, he's probably the most human character in the entire franchise.

Raph's anger seems to be stemmed from how much he cares. Normally he's just sarcastic, but when something is really up he can really go nuts. He has no time for patience when it comes to what matters most to him and so his anger takes over and gets the job done. It's worked for him before so why would he stop, besides that's Raph and we love him for it.
