If TMNT never existed, what would be your #1 fandom?

*CyberCubed* · 07-02-2014, 12:53 AM

Let's say TMNT never existed and Pete/Kevin never drew that first image of a Turtle in 1984. What exactly would be your big fandom right now had it not been for TMNT?

Given I was born in the mid 80's, I'd probably be more of a Batman fan right now. The 1989 Batman movie was a big deal, and B:TAS was a big part of 90's kids childhood. As much as I liked Batman, I never got into the comics or other aspects of it since TMNT was my #1 and I didn't have time for two. I honestly think I'd be posting on some Batman forum right now and have a closet of 500+ Batman comics if TMNT had never existed. It just goes to show you whatever your #1 fandom is takes away from your interest in others.

I might have also gotten more into Spiderman too for the same reason, I dunno. Lost interest in Power Rangers after the first three years and Pokemon was huge but I was already a teenager when it came out so it already came later on for me.

Highlander. Green Lantern. Probably in that order.

**Jester** · 07-02-2014, 01:24 AM

Star Trek maybe...or Spider-man and the X-Men.

*Redeemer* · 07-02-2014, 01:28 AM

I would have to say Spider-man or Batman I flip-flop on those two so damn much. Sometimes Spidey is my second sometimes Batman is my second it just depends what mood i am in

thebrownranger · 07-02-2014, 02:24 AM

Eh...Batman, Spiderman, Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, X-Men, Transformers, DBZ. No specific order really. If not any of those, then probably nothing. I'd probably be doodling or playing guitar which I still do to this day.

*Powder* · 07-02-2014, 02:32 AM

Pokemon or Nintendo on a whole, I guess. I'm not heavily into much else outside of those & the turtles.

*Wildcat* · 07-02-2014, 02:51 AM

TMNT is not my No.1 fandom anyway, its Sonic. Turtles are probably second for me along with everything else. I don't have a least favorite fandom so there wouldn't be a 2, 3 and so on.

Hannurdock · 07-02-2014, 02:54 AM

Probably Buffy and Angel. They were always a big draw for me.

CharmedSerenity · 07-02-2014, 03:02 AM

Transformers and Legion of Superheroes definitely. Possibly Digimon and the X-men as well.

*Refractive Reflections* · 07-02-2014, 05:43 AM

I wasn't a big action/adventure cartoon watcher (watched the Mario Bros. show if that counts

) when I was young, and even the ones I did watch were not as favored as the comedic cartoons I watched like Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, Garfield, and Recess. I don't know if TMNT is my #1 fandom since it can change on my mood, what tone I'm looking for, and how far I want to lean to my childhood or adult interests/hobbies, but it's on my top 4 for sure in terms of franchises/cartoons.

A couple of the reasons why I enjoyed the OT than compared to other action/adventure cartoons was because it was able to effectively balance the comedy and action/adventure (but as we know in the middle seasons, the show did go too far on the slapstick comedy at times), plus the Turtles had a unique camaraderie charisma between them which was lighter and appealing, unlike the looser bonds and contentiousness of X-Men, or the solitary aloof adventures of Superman, Batman, and Spiderman.

But if we're talking about this very moment of what I would be enjoying and being a fan of, it would be more "grownup" drama TV shows like Nashville, Scandal, Law and Order:SVU, etc. With me, I have a low threshold for extreme sci-fi or fantasy TV shows and movies; the only notable exception has been TMNT of course.

OA · 07-02-2014, 05:47 AM

Gotta go with the Xmen on this one. Always been a fan of the comics and of the world in general, not to mention the movies, games, etc.

*Prowler* · 07-02-2014, 05:50 AM

I wasn't as much invested into other cartoons as I was into TMNT when I was a kid, so I guess my #1 fandom would be a video game franchise like Mario or Zelda.

*Whatswiththeheadbands?* · 07-02-2014, 06:04 AM

Zelda
Batman
Transformers

In that order

*Katie* · 07-02-2014, 06:25 AM

Probably nothing. TMNT was my only hardcore fandom. Everything else I'm into is just a casual interest

pingclang · 07-02-2014, 06:55 AM

Captain America and or Avengers. They're the only thing I like anywhere near as much as turtles.

*Shark_Blade* · 07-02-2014, 07:00 AM

Sonic.

Batman.

Tomb Raider.

Leomaru · 07-02-2014, 07:06 AM

Batman. I loved his games and movies.

*Eiko* · 07-02-2014, 07:30 AM

Prob Dragon ball Z, Star Trek or My Little Pony.

Casey · 07-02-2014, 07:56 AM

Batman or Ghostbusters.

*Icebot* · 07-02-2014, 08:44 AM
