Is Hob partially based on Leatherhead?

So I found this on Turtlepedia:

Assuming that short story is real, then Old Hob would have the same backstory as Leatherhead had in that retcon. In addition Hob lacks an eye just like Leatherhead in one story, he was studied in a lab, has shaky alliances with the Turtles, is part of the Mutanimals and has desire to feel at home (that last one might be a bit of a stretch though).

So again is Hob based on Leatherhead and if it's so, why not just use Leatherhead?

Leatherhead is going to be a different character here, he was seen in Turtles in Time #3 already. I hope he shows up again in the Mutanimals series this time. I think Old Hob is more like the Malcolm X to Splinter's MLK.

Plus you get the cat-rat dynamic as well. I see Hobb as more like what Verminator-X was.

Old Hob shares similarities (IMO) with Magneto and more recently Nick Fury, assembling his own mutant Avengers. (Three guesses as to who the Hulk is!)

Leatherhead is Leatherhead. and that short story you referenced is a backup story in one of the issues of Tales Volume 2... don't remember which.

Any resemblance in the two backstories are probably no more than coincidence.

Well she probably won't reproduce, so Hob may tolerate her because she won't contribute to the swelling of the human population.

Old Hob's a pragmatist. He knows he needs her to make more mutants. If he ever gets the ability to do so without her (say, if Leatherhead or some other brilliant technically-gifted mutant joined the Mutanimals)... well, she'd probably end up dead or on the run, if he had his say.

Also he's not above blatant contradiction in the name of his 'cause.' In the end, I'd argue that even if he tells himself he's on some noble mission on behalf of mutants, his real motive is to dish out the same pain he's been dealt on people he deems to deserve it. Lindsey is a necessity.

Also, Hob is Hob.

Or she becomes a mutant, But Hobs is totally against idea of Humans turning into Mutants.

I can't say I agree with you on his motive 100%. I think it originally started as that, but I feel that Hob is still transitioning to a rogue antihero.

We see that Old Hob genuinely cares for his fellow mutants; for proof, I point to his acceptance and forgiveness of Pidgeon Pete for causing the Bebop/Rocksteady showdown in "New Mutant Order." Plus his rescue of Mutagen Man and deciding the rescued mutant takes priority over torching Null HQ.

He's even (sort of) past his original grudge with Splinter and the Turtles... although leaving Splinter behind with the Foot was a total dick move.

That short doesn't exist. They showed him pre mutation in a back up in Tales #50, but Splinter wasn't there. Then a mutated LH runs into the young Turtles in #38, but that's it.

Me too. I used to edit it but there's too many ass holes doing stuff like that and actively fighting against people trying to make it better.

One kept putting their idea of the Turtles middle names on their pages and would not let it go.

No, I've seen it. It ends with Dr X and another Utrom (both in TCRI human suits) finding the baby alligator in the sewers while on a maintenance run and Dr X adopting the gator for a pet. DrSpengler could probably tell us where it came from; that guy has an amazing blog with everything Mirage recorded and listed... I should go check his site and see if I can find it.

I always thought that Hob was a mix between Jagwar and Verminator-X.

Jagwar in that he is a bipedal mutant cat that leads the Mutanimals, and the rest is Manx, an early version of Verminator.

It's interesting to say the least, though a part of me just prefers Jagwar.
