5/16/2015 25th Anniversary since Jim Henson Passed
today marks 25 years since we lost the one the only Jim Henson. Henson gave us the muppets awesome animatronics and of course the TMNT movie suits.

Hard to believe it's been that long. Makes me feel sorta old, but at the same time, as Marcelangelo said, glad to have been within the generations that have been on the receiving end as an audience.
There are SO many beloved films and shows that would not have existed or might have never been as good... Our Turtles' first films, Fraggle Rock, Sesame Street, Muppets everything, Labyrinth, Dark Crystal, and so on. It's a shame he died too soon, but awesome that he had family that kept it all going. And anniversary would be the correct term, the word is used for negative/sad things too, not just happy ones. I even looked up synonyms for the word, interestingly there are none that fit sad occasions, only celebrations or words that don't really fit. Could say the thread itself is posted in memoriam, but doesn't work for the date itself. |

I heard somewhere that one of Jim Henson's biggest regrets on his deathbed was being involved with TMNT. He felt misled about the content of the film, not being familiar with TMNT before that, and was ashamed that he contributed such a large part to making a film that wasn't appropriate for very young kids, since that was important to him.

I probably was somewhat aware of this at the time, but wasn't aware of this until a few years after this fact. That said, it seems like after his death, the quality of Henson-related material went downhill. The final season of Muppet Babies (not seven since that was in the can at the time), Sesame Street becoming more reliant on Elmo and eliminating some classic characters, fewer Muppets specials, and of course the third Turtle Movie. His very last special to air while he was alive was a Disney World special, just a week before his passing. IMO he is second only to Disney himself in shaping me and so many others' childhood. I did watch the Pretendo episode of Muppet Babies recently and got a laugh out of all of the 8-bit/early arcade video games. He won't be duplicated for a long time.

I think it's a real shame the production team of the Turtles sequel were criticised by Henson's family for dedicating the movie to him because they felt it created the wrong memory of him. Surely the fact they bothered to dedicate the movie to his passing shows that the production team were honouring him?

Yah man, it's thanks to him we have those loveable Muppets today. He's done so much impressive work over the years of being a live, I can only wish to half the talent that man had. I hope some day they can get the Muppets back on track, it seems his family has trouble doing so. This generation isn't into things like this, they've grown to reality TV shows and teen drama romance shows. Though now we are entering the day of an age of people with ability's, lots of those popping up this year.
Any ways, thank you for your work Jim Henson, I look forward to the new show, it looks almost good so far |

I will say one thing he did a great job bringing the Turtles to life. I was a bit amazed he was ashamed with being involved with the first movie. True about the content not being more kid like sense it was more based on the original comics.

It's more how his dedication in the sequel was criticised that gets me. I just found out about it a couple of months ago and was shocked there were complaints about it from family and critics.

Let me rephrase that. I meant the Original trilogy. Everything after that is a grey area.

What I really meant was Henson made characters that are still remember today same with what Lucas did with Star Wars. Yes, there have been missteps(a lot of them) but that was what I was referring to.
