Who would have thought?

Was browsing through a guide book to NYC and found something funny and interesting. Those who watched the OT series may remember a place called Vinnie's Pizza mentioned in the cartoon. Turns out, it's a real place, or at least it was in1998, when the book was made. Not sure if it's still there, but it was on 286 W. Amsterdam Ave. Who knew?

Maybe it's just a coincidence. Not really surprising that there's one or more pizza places called "Vinnie's Pizza" out there.

Vinnie is a common name for Italian Americans, just like Tony, Paul(ie), etc. So you'll find pizzaria's with virtually all those kinda names.

An even better fun fact, the pizzaria from Secret Of The Ooze is real, & I've eaten there (It's bangin').

Yeah, I was actually going to bring that one up. The SotO one has been around for a while. Makes ya wonder if Antonio's from Nick or the pizzaria from IDW might exist IRL as well. I just thought it was a funny coincidence- I doubt any of the OT staff knew about it, but if they DID, it would be neat! It would be fun to see if any other places mentioned in the various actually exist.

Well, actually, yes, Antonio's is based on Ciro's Father's pizzaria, iirc. The guy on the pizza box IS his father, supposedly.

If just a coincidence then neat coincidence. Looked at Google's street view though and no pizza place there. Yelp.com reviews seem to confirm it closed some years ago.

That sucks. Too bad, they could've played on the cartoon for publicity if E&L let them!

There's a "Michelangelo's Pizza" over by me. I pass by it sometimes but I never stopped in to see if there was a 5-6' tall teenage turtle running the joint.

Well, I've seen some Michael Angelo's frozen dinners in the grocery store, too, but I doubt they were made by any teenage turtles who know ninjutsu. (Then again, maybe you SHOULD check in, Leo! He could just be in the back where no one will see him, LOL!)

Slightly off topic, but I was surprised to see the 1964 World's Fair site renovated and still active opposed to an abandoned facility in a rough part of town after decades passed by like it was in cartoon.

I think they do that in most places. Ours was back in 1998 and it's still an area with a lot of movement and there's also very expensive housing around it.

And I see NYC's also has a street with flags form all over the world, just like ours.

Just caught this Vinnie's Pizza on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Jimmy was interviewing the guy and I could see they have a framed TMNT picture on the wall of the establishment. I was reminded of this thread. So yes, it still is open today.

That's awesome. And, yeah, I knew Antonio's was based on Ciro's dad's pizza place. So cool.

One's of my nephew's friends on a little league team is the son of a fellow who runs a Vinnie's Pizza in downtown Carlisle. They got these awesome pepperoni rolls that just melt in your mouth!!!
