Atlantis contradictions

"The Lost Queen of Atlantis" and "Atlantis Awakes", two episodes of the FW cartoon that both featured Atlantis and they're rather incompatible. No really, I don't see how anyone could say they're not in contradiction to each other, the city's leadership and role are entirely different. I know it was likely the writers didn't think the earlier episode would ever air and that may very well be the excuse but it does not change that we have a rather big continuity error here.

As a side-note, I find it amusing that the FW cartoon only had two Atlantis episodes and that they don't fit together, while the 4Kids series had a subplot about Atlantis that stretched over several episodes and tied into several other episodes. Just funny to see how the two shows picked the same exact thing and had the opposite ideas of how to handle it.

Merdude was also from Atlantis in the Archie series if I recall correctly.

I agree that the Atlantis episodes contradict each other. In Ireland, the Vacation in Europe episodes aired between "Unidentified Flying Leonardo" and "My Brother, the Bad Guy" so they were broadcast further apart. I always considered "Atlantis Awakes" to be the true depiction of Atlantis in the OT.

I would almost consider the opposite, seeing how Queen technically ties together with other episodes while Awakes (as far as I know) has no ties to any other episodes. I say almost because as these two episodes clearly demonstrate, this show did not at all care about continuity so it's kind of meaningless argue continuity.

I agree that Queen ties together with other episodes, but I thought Awakes was written better. Too bad it didn't tie in with the first Atlantis episode.

They're both Atlantis... from Alternate Dimensions!

You know, the episode never really made it clear whether April really was the reincarnation of the Atlantian Queen or whatever. Interesting idea for a follow up episode...

The Merdude episode is obviously the canon Atlantis.

It's because it has a character from the toyline, isn't it?

Its because it was written by the head writer of the series (David Wise), featured Merdude, was an overall better written episode, and was part of the main season rather than the European Vacation stuff.

It was really just intended as a joke, I seriously doubt there's a canon at all for this cartoon. The people who worked on it didn't even care if episodes had internal contradictions, why would you think they cared about continuity between episodes?

Yep, the writers made things up as they went along. There were a lot of plot holes. It was never intended to be taken too seriously.

It's escapism. It can take itself as seriously as it wants.

Beliefs of cults aren't usually taken serious. There have been hundreds of cult people around the world saying they or someone else is a reincarnation of someone from history.

I consider "Lost Queen of Atlantis" to be the historic Atlantis, and the "Atlantis Awakes" to be a kingdom named after it.
