A "leader" besides Leonardo?

Let's say the next incarnation rolls around and we get a whole new dynamic for the turtles. Someone other than Leo will be considered the team leader. Who would you pick?

My vote goes to a Donnie centric team, with Mikey being his right hand man.

It would be pretty fun to shake things up for once. Thoughts?

I like it as a temporary change, when something goes wrong or a turtle is out of the city for whatever reason, but as a wholly new & permanent dynamic, not my cup of tea.

Were it forced upon me, yeah, Donnie's the way to go. Arguably he's been more of a leader than Leo in some iterations. Like the Fred Wolf 'toon, for example.

Definitely Donnie. He's level-headed...most of the time and can make good calls. That aside, we saw how he was in the OT series. At times he came across as leader more than Leo at times, but the only problem with Donnie is that he does seem to rely on science and tech a bit too much at times.

Mikey is the wildcard and Raph has his temper issues at time, so I don't think these two would make good perm leaders. Temporary...maybe.

IDW has done a very good job of showing Donnie as a leader. He and Leo butted heads a lot in the first 12 issues, especially over the issue of "should we keep looking for Raph." Plus Donnie was willing to split off and go rogue in an attempt to shut down the Technodrome when Splinter and Leo were focused solely on Shredder.

So yeah; Donnie is definitely a viable leader.

Donnie is the obvious choice, heck in the 2007 TMNT movie, Leo straight up said Donatello was leading the group.

Personally I like the idea of Michelangelo leading, but only if it was a position he was forced into, likely due to some depressing circumstances.

Splinter is technically the leader while Leonardo is the field leader. I always wanted to see Splinter lay out a plan and lead the charge instead of Leonardo. As for a different turtle? I can see an arguement being made for both Raphael and Donatello. However, I always wanted to see a more serious Michelangelo take a lead.

I kind of want to see Raph lead. He has been known to think at times and he has created good plans. But since he's always being like 'I should be leader, go die Leo!' I want to see what he would do. Also Donnie was temporarily leader in the Season 2 finale of the Nick series. Him and Leo were butting heads and Leo got injured so Don took over, remember guys?

Agree with Donnie, he's kind of been Leo's right hand guy anyhow in TMNT as a whole; they work well together, are more similar in temperament, and he would probably try to carry on in similar fashion (albeit with his own perspective).

Also agree on the Splinter comment. Average real life perspective... Leo's basically the manager of his department, but Splinter is the highest manager the whole team reports to.

Although... if the dynamics were shifted... now what does Leo get to do? If it's changed, it's always his job people want to see the others taking... He's long been defined by "leader," and not much else, might be a different matter if the guy had more going for him.

I wouldn't really want to see him kicked out of his role, esp if no one else is losing theirs, though on the upside it would at least force more development and exploration of other sides of him, things that just tend to be very vague, and the potential in those things. Donnie may be the math, science and tech brains of the bunch, but Leo tend to be the brains of the group in terms of strategy, wisdom, introspective stuff, and whatnot. He could certainly be the big brother the others tend to confide in and able to offer some suggestions or better perspectives.

Honestly the best way to get a new leader in place is for Leo to replace Splinter in that role, as a trainer and master, assuming Splinter passes due to some circumstance.

Oh that would go well. lol Only Raph would be foolhardy enough to follow Casey, but only because he doesn't want him getting into serious trouble. The rest of the Turtles: "Nope."

Leonardo is the leader for when Splinter dies. Without Leo, it would fall to Donatello. Then Michelangelo ("real" Mike, not Dude Mikey). Raphael isn't a leader.

The group he could lead is one at the funny farm.

Though it would've been kinda cool if that nut had a gang of like minded goons to romp around with, if only in that universe.

Damn, that would actually have been an awesome Mirage story.

Casey checking into an asylum (with or without his consent)... you could go moody introspective "Shades of Gray", or just romp with it and go "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest."

The OT episode Take Me To Your Leader answers your question although it didn't go to well.
