- Teenage Mutant Ninja.....(what other animal?) -

Has anyone ever thought about what other animals the producers could have used instead of turtles and if so, would it have been as much of a sucess as the Turtles? It helps if it rhymes with the rest of the title, (Teenage Mutant Ninja Newts?).....lol

Gorillas...at least that's what this one "punk-loving" guy at my former school suggested..

"Why out of all animals did they have to choose TURTLES? Why not GORILLAS? THEY can actually fight and are strong! But turtles? That's stupid!"

Look who's talking...keep in mind this is also one of those typical "Mirage-retarded" people who thinks TMNT started as the cartoon. Here was his reaction to after I told him about how it really started:

"OK, but first off how did they [Eastman and Laird] figure that a goofy comic full of turtles in colored bandanas..."

At that moment I had to stop him. From day one that guy thought he was right about everything, not just TMNT. He and even got into a debate on whether Weird Al Yankovic actually made his original songs (he firmly believed that he didn't, but in fact his original:parody ratio is about 50/50).

I'll stop ranting now.

Lizards, they'd fit in pretty well the entire sewer thing, plus they can climb walls

I wonder how they would've looked as Racoons. That would've made the colored bandana theme look more interesting.

I wud have sed lizards too, but what about rats? what if they had decided to use Rats for the turtles (since there are coutless down in the sewers) and Yoshi turned into someting else such as a lizard - or maybe even stayed as a rat? A whole family of mutant rats in the sewer.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Rats?

Lol - funny idea - what if it had been birds? Okay, stopping there.

Well, I could see lizards, rats, or cats as well. But also dogs. Though a mixed cast would have been neat as well...

Now there's a possibility. If my knowledge serves me correctly, Eastman's original TMNT drawing was of Michaelangelo. So what if Leo had been a salamander, and Donatello a racoon like I brought up before?

I don't think anyone wants to change them .but it's interesting wondering what could have been.

what if they had picked animals more fitting of each individuals personality. what animal would they be?

I think it has to do with a turtle being so small and slow and a ninja being so big and agile. Reality-wise, it would be impossible to have the two combined as one. Kevin probably created a turtle as a ninja just for laughs or pure enjoyment and never thought it would grow as popular as it is today. Why did Bob Kane choose a bat, or Stan Lee choose a spider? It's hard to figure out where these guys come up with such ideas. I'm just happy they're here now with us.
