Classic Episode Discussion" Bye, Bye Fly"

There is not an episode discussion for this one either so I made a thread of my thoughts as I watch the episode. Please contribute your comments or reply to my own.
-Baxter's third of six appearances as a mutant fly. This one is written by David Wise.
-Leonardo's mask should have been fixed even if it never entered syndication after '97.
-Is the episode title a reference to anything? Bye,Bye Birdie, a book and early 60s' film? TMNT writers of the series liked to reference B scifi films, but this is a musical.
-Leonardo, " I feel like an idiot" Raphael, "that is okay because you also look like one". Pretty clever, but Raphael is also made to do this exercise clip so its a bit hypocritical. Okay, I am reading too much into funny one liners.
-I always like keeping my ear's peeled to see if I can identify the voice actor behind random characters like the archaeologist April interviewed, he is voiced by Peter Renaday.
-Baxter turns his freak on to scare people, is that the only time he does that?
-Pat Fraley likes to laugh as Baxter the Fly.
-"Krang and Shredder would sell their own mother's for this!"-Baxter the fly referring to the alien ship technology. Baxter is right! Probably take much less for Shredder considering we see her!
-Dorian Haywood as Shredder. Sounds like The Shredder has a cold. I noticed that James Avery had trouble keeping the VA schedule, but I just can't get behind this voice though I do like Bill Martin almost as much.
-Footskis! How many times did these make an appearance? Twice, this and Pizza by The Shred?
-Sewer Army Tubes? I had a toy vehicle of that, but only when it was a part of the random re-releases in '98 and '99 that ended the original line.
-Z ask Baxter, 'Why don't you use the animal ray on them?'. ' Because nothing could make those two look any worse'.
-Baxter gets his revenge on The Shredder and turns him into a fly! His helmet somehow shrank with him to help the audience identify him.
-Michelangelo gets turned into a gerbil. Why does it have to always be Michelangelo! This sets up Michelangelo for being the humor bearer of the 2003 cartoon. I would rather the bad things have been spread out a bit more. Like Shredder's helmet Mike's mask shrinks down with him for the same reason.
-Rocksteady, "We better get out of here before he turns us into something ugly!" Baxter already addressed though privately to Z that we would not use it on them for that reason, they could not turn out any worse.
-Bebop and Rocksteady bullying Shredder was funny!
-Does it ever say why Baxter wants to take Z's ship to Dimension X?
-Rob Paulsen as robot chefs? Are these designs lifted from another episode like Enter: The Shredder or Mean Machines or is it for this sequence alone?
-Donatello took the retainer bolt from the warp drive crystal. Do we see Donatello take the piece from the crystal? Somehow it causes the ship to literally fall apart.
-Trivia-Z is 483 years old assuming our time he was created in 1406 CE.
-The irony continues with Baxter as he falls into an alien spider's web in Dimension X.
-As a kid watching the series I never realized that Z from Baxter's 4th and 6th appearances as a mutant fly was the alien ship computer that was looking for a friend and aided Baxter in Bye, Bye Fly.
-The other archaeologist that speaks is voiced by Renae Jacobs. She is interviewing herself! Its better than Pat's character attempting to kill another of his characters! They really did get their money's worth in having regular VAs take on roles of just a few lines. It does not seem to be done these days.

Earlier Z states the ship had been stuck for 300 years so it would seem it is referring to Earth years since Baxter is a earthling.

Baxter always was the most sympathetic villain in the classic toon. For the most part, the guy just wanted to be appreciated for his work and that led him to getting manipulated and played by one sleeze after another. Granted, he's still crazy.

I don't think that planet was in Dimension X. He said This isn't Dimension X.

The episode ended with bebop and rocksteady taking the animal ray home, it makes me wonder why they didn’t try to use it on the turtles in future episodes. Also anyone notice the ray is the exact same as the retromutagen ray in Revenge of the Fly?

I think it's the same, Splinter destroyed the original in Shredder and Splintered, smashing it into only leftover pieces.

There is one fan theory that once he falls towards the planet with a giant spider, the spacecraft pieces crash onto the spider's web and breaks it, freeing Baxter Stockman and saving his life.

Yep, what an awful fate that would’ve been. I’m glad Baxter was brought back for a few more episodes.

I also wanted to note that Baxter does technically get his revenge on The Shredder by turning him into a fly.

Also Wesley, where do you think the Volcanic Asteroid on the forum was inspired from?

I finished watching Baxter the Fly in chronological order and typing up thoughts I went along.

The bar on the Volcanic Asteroid is, of course, inspired by the Mos Eisley Cantina on Tatooine in Star Wars.

A lot of space adventures have those bars where creatures from various planets are seen.

Great episode and well written. The ending with Baxter was really creepy and fatalistic. Glad he didn't die there.
