How would you have liked the show if Kevin and Peter didn't veto ideas in season 1?

In case you aren't aware, these are the ideas that were vetoed in season 1 of the Fred Wolf cartoon:
  • Baxter Stockman would have become an ally to the Turtles and their tech guy.
  • Shredder and Krang would have fused together into one character (not sure if this means instead of Shredder building the robotic body or after it).
  • The Turtles would have hijacked the Technodrome and made it their new home.

P.S I should probably point out that there may or may not have been more ideas rejected by Kevin and Peter, these are just the ones they stated in interviews.

Baxter becoming an ally of the turtles doesn't sound too bad considering how he got mistreated throughout the series, but Krang and Shredder fusing sounds pretty stupid (would the fusion be voiced by James Avery or Pat Fraley?).

As for the turtles taking refuge in the technodrome, I can get behind the idea in of itself as the technodrome was located deep underground where nobody could find it, and it would give Donatello a more logical way of building his inventions rather than making them from scrap metal in the sewers. However, what would happen to the villains if the turtles took over the technodrome?

I'm assuming that Shredder, Krang, Bebop and Rocksteady would still be the main villains as part of the deal for toys was for these characters to appear frequently throughout the show. Instead of their daily schemes revolving around stealing gizmos to power up the technodrome though, they would involve stealing gizmos so they can create weapons to destroy the turtles and reclaim the technodrome.

So all in all, I like the idea of Baxter becoming an ally, hate the Shredder and Krang fusion, and am neutral on the technodrome lair as it doesn't change much for the shows status quo, essentially giving us the same villain plots with a different coat of paint.

Shredder and Krang combined had the biggest arsenal of any villains in all of the cartoons.

Baxter having shaky alliances and switching sides at some point (possibly only to back stab later because he's more often all about his own objectives at the end of the day?) could have been acceptable, but usurping Donnie as the tech guy... come on now, don't do that. Not unless they had some Foot Donnie type of arch and the rest of the turtles and Baxter struck up a temporary 'frenemy' alliance.

Shredder and Krang fusing... no thank you.

The Turtles managing to steal the Technodrome for themselves and basically laugh and flip off Krang and Shredder by doing so... okay, sorta funny, though wouldn't really want that.

Baxter being an ally in at least one episode would've been cool. But if that idea ahead gone through for the whole show I wonder what personality Donatello would've had since he wouldn't be the tech guy anymore.

The technodrome being the lair of the turtles would've also been a neta idea in a later season, just to switch things up. I love the sewer but I always like it when the turtles have to find a new place to live in.

Baxter becoming an ally at some point may have made sense since in his first appearance, he seemed a lot more of a pawn than an accomplice to Shredder with the Mousers plus Shredder was about to have him wiped out immediately afterwards. Wonder why they didn't veto it in 2k3 when in Fast Forward, Baxter while working with Bishop had basically turned over a new leaf in the distant future.

The other 2 ideas would have been pointless.

1) Baxter being an ally of turtles would be interesting.

2) S&K merging into single villain would rob series of their dynamic, so no.
Could it have been an inspiration for the story in TMNT Adventures, where Krang implants his head to the Shredder's body?
And it was kind of done later with Ch'rell.

3) Turtles hijacking Technodrome, would be fine for a few episodes, but not the series as a whole.

But... but...

Edit: Beaten by Sumac. Surprised Laird let Murphy do Shredder/Krang. Maybe it's because Saki hated it in the end.

Imagine Shredder/Krang showing up in the red sky seasons as a mystereus fused character and being a super smart and competent villain who starts by killing off Splinter.

The Turtles living in the Technodrome is so bizarre, I don't know how that idea came up. Where would Shredder/Krang even move to if the Turtles took it over?

Maybe they'd do a House Swap thing and Shredder and Krang would take over the sewer den.

Probably two things to point out here:
  1. There is one important difference here between what was going to happen here and what happened in Archie or 4Kids. Here two characters were going to merge into one being, possibly permanently. In Archie Krang was temporarily attached to Shredder but still clearly himself, and while Ch'rell was a twist he was indeed still the same guy, we just found out something new about him. It's quite different to just have two characters lose their individuality like this.
  2. The reason the Technodrome was going to be the new base of the Turtles, probably because Playmates thought kids would want the toy more if the heroes had it instead of the villains. Let's never pretend this show wasn't toy advertisement first and entertainment second (well, more accurately it was syndication bait second, contract obligation third and entertainment fourth). Maybe it's a bad concept but so is the turtle van and blimp.

My guess is that Shredder/Krang/"The Hybrid" would be occupying another thing made to market a playset. Space station, secret fortress, lunar base, etc. Anything big enough to take up a good portion of the living room carpet...
