Will IDW ever collect Vol. 4 or Tales V. 2?

IDW has to this day never done a Vol. 4 collection, and they collected roughly the first 25ish issues of Tales v. 2 but stopped years ago. Do you think they'll ever collect all these Mirage issues they never did? Tales had 70 issues and then 16 mini-series adding to almost 90 issues.

If the sales were there for the previous stuff then they'd most likely already be doing that, or already have done it by now.

Isn't there some weird copyright stuff regarding some issues of Vol 4? Like, who owns the two issues Laird published after the buyout?

It seems pretty cut and dry.

Peter Laird does. Nobody else. But if you think IDW's reprint department cares about reprinting the last couple of issues at the ass end of Vol. 4 at all when even TPB sales of Vol. 1 isn't selling that much, you're delusional.

Which is why it's too bad Dark Horse didn't end up with the comics. The first thing they would have done is drop monster omnibuses (REAL omnibuses that are hundreds of pages and like a phone book, not the "omnibuses" of today that are the size of a normal TPB 20 years ago) that collect everything you can imagine.

Agree, Dark horse had the whole mirage collected by now and likely in black and white.

Also did the compendiums sell well enough to suggest it might get to vol 4 and tales?

if they map them chronologically ( vol 4. 32 issues, tales vol 2, 71 issues and 16 issues for the minis and maybe muscle and faith) they will probably need 4 compendiums, i don't see idw doing that, though i hope it happens. They probably just release the 3 compendiums into 6 softcovers colored versions and just keep on milking the reprints of vol 1

IDW already put out everything they could in normal trades, that's why they're re-doing everything again. Vol. 1 got the Ultimate collections, then those (awful) colored collections, and then more TPB's for the Ultimate collections again. Vol. 2 got trades as did Tales. And of course Archie got TPB's and now they're re-doing those as well.

It seems all the first trades were just rush jobs to get everything out, hence the skipped issues, the poor coloring, etc. Now it seems IDW is trying to "do things right," the only problem is they need to sell well to continue and hope IDW itself doesn't go out of business before they get them all out.

Guaranteed if IDW drops out or goes under, Dark Horse will swoop in.

Yeah, but I just get tired of re-buying the same trades over and over. That's why I'm holding off buying trades this time until I see them completed, because I know they could get canceled in the middle. I made the mistake of buying IDW's trades for Mirage issues as soon as they came out, then I had to sell them all on ebay when they started doing better releases. I can only re-buy the same things so many times.

I see wha you mean, but i feel the issue is IDW they keep on rereleasing in different formats and every time with a down side. The ultimates never collected the full run, the classics was colored, the compendiums are missing issues and short stories and they never seem to continue these line long enough.

I feel dark horse would get wright out of the gate, probably like the Creepy/Eerie archives or Hellboy/Goon library editions. Oversized, black and white, everything chronologically included in a nice hardcover binding.

Honestly they dropped the ball with usagi and I'm happy that usagi is back at dark horse.

So far the compendiums only skipped the Rick Veitch Vol. 1 issues, which I guess they can't do anything about since Veitch will never let his stuff be republished for some reason. But all of Vol. 1, the micros, and 7 Tales issues are part of it.

I expect them to re-release Vol. 2 again in this format, the Shell Shock tales, and then another Image collection. Hopefully after that Vol. 4 and Tales. And of course they're re-doing the Archie collections next year as well.

Rick Veitch is fine being reprinted. He just needs to be paid. When you're a corporation that is only interested in the easiest and the quickest stuff you have available to do then why rustle around in the weeds with the one guy who has the odd deal. I don't agree they shouldn't at least try to negotiate with him, which knowing what little we know of the "reprint team" (which again, is NOT the core IDW TMNT team) leads me to conclude they never bothered because that would be too much work. Like, you know, bothering to make sure the duotoned issues of City at War had their duotoned pages and maybe some editorial work when Kevin was saying Karai is Shredder's daughter. The most egregious stuff is the Archie reprint stuff. Kowtow to an imaginary group of fans that will get mad at IDW for depicting Muslim stuff? As it was printed 30 years ago? That's insane.
