[Found media] Next Mutation original/unedited episodes found
I figured nobody really saw this post in a fairly inactive thread, so I’m making one just for this.
Shout out to The-Shredder for hooking me up with these: Quote:
I tried to email him, but his gmail is deactivated. Does anyone know how to get ahold of him or the guy from the YouTube account? There’s no way to comment and I can’t seem to message him either. |

Are they really that different from the Netflix cuts? I don't remember noticing music changes when I finally watched the netflix cut which besides the intro. The netflix cut is also likely lost media now since Hasbro is not going to put it online to promote a toyline they don't make toys for.
This takes me way back to the mid 00s when you had to watch anime and shows in 3 part videos, you'd add them to a playlist, it wasn't that annoying. Movies would be like 11 parts. It'll be annoying to download these videos though, 78 downloads for the entire series.. |

Uh, yeah. I guess it's cool that the original cuts of these episodes are preserved, in an archival and preservational sense I suppose. I'm just not sure there is such a thing as a "good" version of this show. I legitimately can't tell if anything was improved or worsened by the new edits.
With the FW, I can I least imagine someone being able to edit the coloring and layering mistakes, maybe even splicing in new frames of animation, given the right tools of course. Trying to fix the FW show in such a way would be lipstick on a pig of course, it's just that trying to do the same for Next Mutation would be like putting lipstick on the rotting carcass of a pig. |

TNM is overhated, it's just a Saban AmeriToku type of show, it does have some silly episodes but it's not that bad.
As far as the netflix releases it's not that they were improved, it's just that the original versions were all basically from VHS recordings so the quality was bad, now you had real transfers. They didn't really clean them up or anything, but it still looked loads better. The intro was changed because of licensing issues. And on wikis you can find that the music was changed in episodes but in the small analysis I once made didn't really find the music changed, granted I only looked at one episode for reference. People also said they removed some of the slapstick sound effects which I think is false, they're all there from what I saw. |

I watched the for the first time as adult knowing it had a poor reputation and that the fans tend to elevate another bad show out nostalgia which might have soured them on TNM beforehand, and let me tell you, the Next Mutation sucks very hard. It's a practically incoherent mess, it's not even worth defending as "not that bad", not that bad compared to what? Plan 9 from Outer Space played five times in a row?

It's like holding your breath, you just can't do it for very long and breathing itself is so easy you literally do it in your sleep.

I don't even think it's "not that bad". To me it's genuinely good. If you're into Ameritoku this is just more of that. Honestly if the show didn't have as many slapstick sound effects and didn't default to "giggle ray" personality for the bad guys which does happen a lot, then it'd be considered a classic.

Not sure if this is totally unedited, but an archive.org user, Strizhak2001, has the series with 4 audio channels. 2 are in Russian, but the other 2 are English. One is stereo with the original theme and one is mono with the DVD/Shout! redux theme. They also have English subs...but it is for the modified theme.
https://archive.org/details/dvdremux_the_next_mutation They also have the music video: https://archive.org/details/next-mut...al-music-video

But yeah it’s overhated. TMNT was already on its way out in 1997, I appreciate that they tried something unique. Quote:

I did find this batch: https://archive.org/details/ninja-tu...ries-1997-1998 They also appears to be the unedited original, runtimes are all around 20 minutes. I’m pretty sure the DVD episodes with the crappy theme song are all more like 17 minutes. |

I love this series and really really wish we had gotten as season 2. I wouldn't mind if if IDW brought it back in comic format!

Ok, upon further review and comparing runtimes, I think the Shout Factory DVD episodes are in fact the full episodes. The only difference is some (but not all) of the music is changed.
The weird thing is, they use the real theme song for the main menu, but use the stupid new one for the actual episodes. It gets interspersed throughout each episode any time there’s an audio track they’re not allowed to use. It’s pretty jarring, but I’m probably just being too autistic. |

That makes sense, though I don't remember noticing it. It seems odd they'd mix everything again with a different audio track only in certain points and not just replace everything but then again I don't know if that's just easier. |

Yeah, I guess there are rights issues with only certain tracks? Weird.
I might pay someone to make me a blu-ray set of one of these Archive.org sources, just so I can say I own the original version. And as I’ve vowed in the past: if I win the lottery, I will fund and produce a 2-part series finale. (Unless sdp can make a good one with AI in 5 years lol) |
