TMNT : Holiday Special

Another one-shot for december by Paul Allor (Cybercubed calls him the Rainbow writer)
Looks like Splinter and Tang Shen survived The City that Never Dies ?
The traditional filler christmas story is back, make it heart-warming !

Place your bets: How is the writer going to make Raphael do something stupid that almost ruins Christmas?

I’m betting Alopex is the one and it becomes a giant food fight.

I’m normally a sucker for Christmas specials, but I feel completely apathetic towards this. Not thrilled to see Shen and Splinter sticking around. Also, not a single good cover to choose from. I’ll probably go with the Chalky Wong RI option though.

If that is an actual scene from inside the book then this thing is pretty soulless.

I doubt it, Shredder and Karai have never interacted in a long time. And it makes no sense for all those characters to be there together.

Solicit plot description:

“Following the events of "The City That Never Dies," winter has arrived, the holidays are rapidly approaching, and the characters of the TMNT Universe have wounds that need to heal. Tang Shen, inspired by Michelangelo's love of the holiday season, decides it's time for the Hamato Clan, their allies, and even some of their enemies to come together to share one holiday meal. But will bad blood within the group allow them to break bread together? And are there external forces waiting outside the meal to break the group's bones?
It's a holiday story only the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles could be a part of!”

Imagine telling anyone even just 5 years ago that the Turtles would invite Shredder, Karai, Bebop and Rocksteady to their Christmas dinner.

Wasn't there some pretty weird stuff going on in IDW about 5 years ago? Like 2021, beginning around #113? I'd probably believe it, sure. I wouldn't read it, but I would believe it.

Whaaaatttt
No way this doesn't become awkward ! The turtles never went through awkward situations before, like there doesn't exist a story where they all hated each others or wanted to kill themselves for no reason. They should try that idea

What's the point of this? In the next story, Karai and her minions may continue their evildoing, and the turtles will fight them again.

For years they've portrayed the IDW turtles and their friends and family as such naive pacifists that the FW Turtles and Rise Turtles might both look more warlike than them.

Yeah, it's still stupid but it's one thing if IDW TMNT (because of Nickelodeon notes) somehow just doesn't kill due to various ongoing circumstances (the villain gets away, gets knocked out and they call it good, etc.)... but it's very much another if they make "We're pacifists and killing is WRONG!" a big part of the actual story and their characters. I'd go so far as to say it makes them a SHAM in a book called Ninja Turtles.

The Rise turtles would mop the floor with IDW haha. The FW turtles would throw hot pizza dough at them or something and they’d have to have a long theological debate about the ethics of subduing an inferior enemy.

Reminder that the FW Turtles killed Lord Dregg via explosion in their final episode with no remorse. The IDW Turtles cry if they so much as witness their villains getting a papercut.

Perhaps this will be a story of how we have to put up with the assh*les of our families we don't like during Christmas, but we keep up appearances because of the hypocrisy families have. TMNT is a story about family after all

Is that why families do it, hypocrisy? Better then that families ostracize members they don't get along with rather than be nice for a day or two in the year?

Family is sometimes the place that protects the violence done on some members, and we ask victims to get along with their attackers because they share a family bond. But I didn't mean to generalize
