Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles by Kevin Smith & David Marquez

Quote:
For the very first time, the worlds of Star Wars and Marvel will collide with an official crossover event.

Titled Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles, the five-part limited comic book series will launch in January 2027, Entertainment Weekly can exclusively reveal.

Figures like Chewbacca, Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Princess Leia will join Earth-616 — the primary continuity in which most stories of Marvel Comics take place —and mingle with the likes of Captain America, Black Widow, Spider-Man, and the Hulk. Meanwhile, Doctor Doom and the Marvel rogue’s gallery will join the likes of Darth Vader and the Galactic Empire.

And what of the explicit references in various Marvel stories that Star Wars as a movie series depicting fictional events? As in, if Peter Parker says Luke Skywalker is a movie character, how are they going to explain them meeting unless it's a story in which they go into a movie through magic or does the "Lucas had a vision of a parallel universe" thing or something?

The franchises just don't gel well together.

About the best thing they could to is maybe have the Star Wars crew meet the Guardians of the Galaxy whereby there is a power struggle between The Empire and maybe the Annihilation Wave or something like that.

But The Avengers and Dr. Doom meeting Han Solo's crew against Vader?

Ehh.....

That's a tall sell.

At the end of the day "Star Wars" is mostly a group of regular people occasionally surrounded by people with psionic powers. That's really what Star Wars is....

It would be 30 years ago, but Marvel, Star Wars and Kevin Smith are all creatively washed.

People are judging the concept as it was presented. They aren't judging the "comic". And that is perfectly warranted and fair - it's no different than judging interest based on an announcement for anything or eventually judging interest based on a trailer.

That's all entirely okay to do.

I remember people unironically talking about how this needed to happen when Disney first acquired the franchise. I'm glad that at least now the general consensus about it is negative.
These universes just don't make sense together.
