Dreamwave TMNT- what happened?

OK, the comic is cancelled.. why?

I have a bit of a theory... cause it was somewhat boring. Don't get me wrong.. the stories were ok, we got some character building stuff with Leo teaching kids how to fight and whatnot.... but is that what TMNT fans wanna read about? Uhhh... no. The kids, assuming they watch the cartoon, wanna see Shredder, Baxter, the Foot, Triceratons, Ultroms, all that stuff. Hell, after Usagi and Leatherhead make their tv deubuts, kids will wanna see em pop up in the comics too.

I know the MOTU comics are on hiatus cause Mattel gave them alot of stipulations and legal limitations on what they can do. So I was wondering, was there some reason the other characters didn't appear in the Dreamwave comics, or was it just because they thought their take would be 'as cool as the cartoon'.

They were simply takin' time to develop the characters/story.

No...DreamWave was not playing to a specific age group, So I don't think that completely clicks with why they quit. Most people I see in the comic shops aren't little kids, I take mine in with me when they want to go, But it mostly teenagers and adults.
But the lack of conflict may have been a factor. It's too hard to tell man.
Especialy when money is the be all end all of so many things.
I had hoped to see it take off screaming the way the archie series had, But apparently DreamWave has other things in mind. They did say they wanted to do something else with the TMNT in the future, so I guess we shouldn't count them out yet.

I think it sales weren't what they wanted. But they never really gave the series a chance on it's own stories. Most of them were based on episodes, and most people won't read something they've already seen.

I also heard that if you hadn't seen the FoxBox cartoon yet either, the comics were really confusing. And that there wasn't enough focus on the TMNT.

I agree in that they should have done their own stories from the get-go, instead of waiting to do it after 5 issues.

But it really was from the fall of sales that made Dreamwave put the comic on hold. It's not cancelled yet. They just are having a hard time with finanaces to keep publishing the licensed comics that are not selling well. Some of the Capcom titles also bit the dust too.

I hope they don't axe Devil May Cry before it even comes out.

I bought one of LeS's originals and got talking to him about the comic.

He says hes about halfway through #8 but is unsure what they will do with it.

Hopefully something will come of it. I like the artwork in the Dreamwave comics 10 times more than the Mirage. Also LeS is awesome and I wanna see him keep doing the turtles comic.

there was some discussion about this issue awhile back, it was indicated that the money was not coming in like they expected.....
