UK stuff in America

I was have a coloring book and some cards that say Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles on it. I'm guessing theese are from U.K? I never went there or lived there and I've had them since I was little. Was there a lot of ninja turtle stuff from there that they sold over here?

Yeah, in the UK TMNT was called Teenage Mutant HERO Turtles.

Parents thought "Ninja" had bad connotations...

Why didn't they just called it Teenage Mutant Shinobi Turtles?

Try saying that out loud. Doesn't quite have the same feel to it, too many syllables. Ninja and Hero both have two, which makes for a decent (sound-wise) substitution.

Err, it was Hero over here too. Well, mostly... The movie still had "Ninja" in the title, and sometimes you saw that in ads and so, so I think that most people were aware that two names existed.

They called the old toons TMHT, but the films are TMNT. It was stupid - 'ninja' and 'nunchuck' were too 'bad' for the young viewers.. *grumbles*

Hmm... Maybe they were imported from Europe when the cards/coloring books were low in numbers?

Yea yea yea...they didn't want to use ninja because the word was violent in the U.K. I know about that. I was asking why I have hero turtle stuff when they never called it that in the U.S. I was wondering if anyone remembers them selling hero turtle stuff here...or if anyone else has any hero turtle stuff from America.

Did the old US turtles theme not go 'heroes in a half-shell, turtle power!'? I guess that's why they used 'hero' because the theme made it obvious

And how that stuff got to the US is a mystery, maybe there was a high demand and they got UK suppliers. I know a shop near me has new turtle figures but the box shows that they're foreign (don't know what language though)

Wow a lot of people sure are answering Jeff's question

Maybe the items you have are bootlegs and it's just a coincidence they share the same name as the UK stuff.
