One thing missing from the first movie: Don's intellect

I just watched the first movie again and I noticed something. Every Turtle had their personality down pretty well, except for Donny. He really didn't use that famous intellect we are used to seeing. However, he does make it up in the next two movies. Still, I'm wondering why he didn't do anything super smart. What was wrong with the writers?

ahem

Actually, he was fairly in-character if based off his Mirage counterpart.

They all were, with the exception of Michelangelo.

I agree. I thought the first movie captured Donatello's original comic book personality very well.

Actually, I've never seen Don crack too many jokes in the Mirage comics.. Unlike his movie counterpart.

He's smart but not always in geek mode. So he's didn't get to shine in the first one...it was a raph movie anyways...

IMO all the tmnt acted more like their cartoon counterparts (except Rapheal) in the movie. It's as if the cartoon turtles were thrown into Mirageland. I mean, c'mon, they were goofy and cracking jokes and fighting all silly-like throughout the entire movie except when serious stuff (like splinter being kidnapped) happened. The only serious non-comedic fighting was when they finally faced Shredder.

There was the scene where they were playing Trivial Pursuit and Don knew the answer to the 'War and Peace' question. But there wasn't much need to building machines or such in the movie.

Well... Donny tried helping Casey Jones fix his truck. We all know how that went.

Mirage's Donny has three main character components: 1) He's a shy loner and 2) He's a science geek 3) He's very mechanically inclined (that is quite different from being a science geek

I feel the movie demonstrated 1 + 3 very well, but failed to demonstrate 2.

Yeah he might not of done too much in the first movie. He's smart and a good playmate for Mikey.
The only mistake there was for him in the sequal was in Movie 2 his voice was more calm and gentle, in movie 3 his voice was back to geek pinchy again.

I thought he was good in movie 2 with all that science stuff he was doing with Perry and he's the turtle that tries to think of a good quote to say.

"Bosanova!"

Mikey: "Fight?"
Don: "Fight!"
Mikey: "Kitchen?"
Don: "Kitchen!"

Not sure if I mixed that up or not

Did anyone else think the Turtles and Shredder looked best/Did the best stuff in the first move?

In the first movie, Leo definately had the best head shape. In the second, his nose was a lot smaller, and in the third he had huge eyes, and a flat, pointed face. For all of them in the first movie their mouths and teeth worked the best. Mikey looked the same in every movie, so did Raph.

In the first movie, Shredder not only looked cool, but he actually fought and kicked ass. In the second, while he still looked cool, he just stood there the whole time until the end.

First movie was a lot better IMO.

As far as personalities are concerned, I think they all worked together best and brought out their teenage aspect.
