* sigh * I'm probably gonna get in trouble for this buut....

Okay, here it goes.....
Without turning this into a rant page full of arguments:
Which is better the Old toon or the New toon? If this is a problem to discuss then could someone recommend me to any other forums who have this discussion so I can see peoples opinions on the matter?

In my opinion, it's like comparing apples and oranges. I don't like either more than the other; I just like them each for different reasons, and am glad that both of them exist to entertain me!

The last one got locked:

I like them both for different reasons.

Well here goes my opinion, the old toon was good especially the first season, but when compared to the new toon it lacks a dark edge.
The new cartoon is brilliant, and the episodes that kinda sucked(Garbageman) reminded me of the old toon.

Both are good, but in different ways.

The new toon has darker stories, better action, good humour and more complex storylines.

The old toon has good humour, characters we won't see in the new show (Krang [not counting his tiny cameo] Beop and Rocksteady, Slash, ect) and it has that 'classic nostalgia' feel because it was a large part of our childhood, and that's impossible to duplicate.

I agree. Two different cartoons for two totally different times. Both great in their respective eras.

I'm REALLY scared that this thread will be closed any minute now, be careful what you say people.

I've banned all discussion of which series is better on TVTOME because both shows are equally good, I hate it when the fans are divided over 'em

as long as you can all be civil and unbiased in your opinions, it can stay open.

As many have said, they were both good in the eras that they were/are made in...

Well, dont think of it as "Which one is better" because you obviously cannot get a straight and clear answer. Think more along the lines of, "What elements did i like from the two series?"

Okay, stuff I liked about the original series:
*The theme song. One of THE best theme songs EVER. Many of the BGMs are instantly recognizable, too
*Krang and Shredder crack me up, even when I watch the old episodes today. So many jokes went right over my head back then
*Cam Clarke as Leonardo. He made Leo have such a sexy voice
*Uncle Phil as Shredder
*Body-switching/personality modifying/typical ridiculous cartoon plots
*Girl mutants (i.e., Mona Lisa)
*Love interests for the boys (Lotus, Mona, Kala, ect.)

The new series:
*How it follows the original comic pretty closely
*The jokes are updated for today's audience
*The characters are more fully developed
*The fight scenes rock
*Great background music
*When something corny occurs, the cheesiness is pointed out and joked about
*More Casey Jones
*An actual plot

I can go on for ages about either.

hhmmm one's a comedy with action elements and the other is action with comedy elements... really hard to make a comparision.

it's like you'd try to compare "liar liar" (the jim carrey movie) with Terminator.

As a young child in the early 90s, I would pick the Old Toon over the New one because of it's goofyness. As someone in their mid-teenage years, I would have to pick the New toon for it's more darker approach. It all depends on Era and Age,

As many people have said (and as I read in the old locked thread), these are two cartoons from two different eras and they both reflect their respective times. I agree. I'll also say that I'm not a big fan of present-era cartoons in general -- with few exceptions, the cartoons aimed at children tend to focus on being edgy, hip, cool, whatever, and that really irritates me. But y'know, maybe the older 'toons did it too, and I had less of a problem with the surfer/hippie/wacky-type idea of cool than I do with this new tough hip-hop inspired flavor.

I'll also say that I don't find new Mikey funny in the least. In fact, I hate him. How do you all put up with him? I have no idea -- he annoys the living shell out of me. Give me the good ol' "party dude" instead of this batshit insane guy who talks waaaay too much and has one of the most irritating voices ever. Yes, it's derivative of the past Mikeys, but it's got this weird sort of grating fingernails-on-chalk undertone to it. AND HE WON'T SHUT UP!!!

Ok, I'm better now...

The new toon does, admittedly, have way better battle sequences -- but I can only watch so many of those before they get really old and it becomes just yawn-inducing filler. It's worth noting that they've reused animation in the fight sequences, which kinda goes along with the whole "filler" idea. The old toon fight sequences weren't nearly as good, but then the show cared more about the wackiness element than hard fighting anyway. I mean this was a show where the Foot Clan's ultimate technique was a series of "Three Stooges" maneuvers.

So yeah, the old toon has my vote and my heart.

I like the new toon better and it's been a long time since I've seen the old toon ( thank god for the upcoming dvd! ) so I can't really compare them just yet. You guys are right though, they are two very different shows!
