Justice League had lotsa adult humor, and that show ended only recently. I remember The Flash getting accused of watching porn and whatnot.

That's a very good point, DC always got away with stuff like that though. It seems like networks always turned their heads on DC shows and let them do what they want. Hence why their so good right? Man I miss Batman TAS.

I can recall a really good one from Return New York Part One. It was half of Raphael's opening dialogue at the beginning. "They say the difference between men and boys is the size of their toys. If that's the case, I'd say I just became a man. Or at least an adult mutant ninja turtle."

I personally don't see this as adult humor, it's pretty clean cut.

I didn't want to say it. The point that defines adult humor is being undeniably about sexual relations. Other than Raph saying he just became a man, there was nothing suggestive about it.

I'm, not speaking on how good the series is I'm speaking on the level of violence and adult humor allowed into the series.

I don't remember much adult humor in old cartoons (at least no more than what we see now in cartoons) and the level of violence is about the same if not higher now than before. Spider-man rarely, if ever, threw a punch in the 90's cartoon. The fighting in the original TMNT cartoon while cool at the time is rather laughable if you watch it now. Avatar, Naruto, 2k3 TMNT, and several others are all about as violent as any cartoon I can think of from the 80's and 90's.

I just can't believe that cartoons these days are more dumbed down than cartoons back then.

Exactly. People making that claim either

1. Dont look hard enough, nor want to
2. Are biased to the shows THEY used to watch and think they establish the standard for shows that modern audiences watch, when there's a 50% chance there watching similar shows alongside lighter shows.

The fighting in the original TMNT cartoon while cool at the time is rather laughable if you watch it now.n.

Except the original TMNT isnt ABOUT the fighting, and will elitists STOP using the "laughable if you watch it now" excuse? Others dont have that opinion

Avatar was canceled I seem to recall, and Naurto is heavily censored for US television, also I believe it's TV-14 meaning not for young kids.

Avatar was meant to be three seasons long, a trilogy. The producers werent stupid enough to assume a show THAT dark would be on for a long time.

Um, Avatar canceled...? Check again. It's one of Nick's most successful cartoons right now. It's on winter break right now and should continue in January. At least, that's what I've heard. And the stuff that is being censored in Naruto sure as heck wasn't in cartoons in the 80's and 90's either. The censored version is TV-PG not TV-14 and manages to show some blood and violence, certainly no less than the good ole' cartoons of yester-year.

Uh, yeah, it is. How often do you hear a cartoon character refer to the size of boys and mens toys? It sounds pretty suggestive to me. Anyone else I've quoted it to sounds sexual to them. Or maybe I or them are not as jaded to it as some folks are.

You all know there's no way your going to win this argument with me because I think I'm right and I'm not bending. I've yet to see anything that has made me think otherwise yet, and when I do I'll admit I'm wrong. But let's just drop the subject cause this going back and fourth is getting nowhere.

Let's leave it at, some people see what I'm talking about, some don't. Is that cool?

Well, to be honest, you haven't given me any examples to prove me wrong either other than Batman TAS. I genuinely want to know what cartoons you're thinking of that are more violent and/or suggestive than cartoons today because I really can't think of any. Cartoons are no more or less dumbed down today than they were years ago.

But if we can't progress this conversation any more than we already have, then I'm willing to drop the subject.

Yeah I should have listed more shows, to be honest I don't remember the names of allot of them because I was pretty young, which now that I think of it could mean their less violent then I remember.

There was this one called "Mutant League" or something like that where they'd tear each other apart while playing sports. What I was really getting at was censorship is allot more hardcore now then it was back then. The ability to get away with more was there. Though I wish I could remember more show names. Now I'm kinda mad cause I have images of series but no names to tag onto them.

An addendum.

Mutant League was a syndicated show. Syndiaction doesn't have the same standards and practices that networks have. In fact, Fat Albert even got into some pretty heavy subjects once it was syndicated. Stuff like sex. There was even one I have on DVD, where they were looking at porno. They didn't show it, but just discussing it is amazing for a kids' show to do.

Just wanted to add that factor in.

Or maybe I or them are not as jaded to it as some folks are.I'm still not seeing it, sorry... but then again I'm not thinking about sex all the time so I don't always relate everything to it like some do. "Toy" makes me think of something plastic and shaped like a car or animal that you give to a four-year old to act on with his imagination... not something related to sex or its necessary equipment. Whenever anyone I know mentions something like that "boys and their toys" phrase, it's referring to the fact that men often appear to get the same pure glee out of their sports cars, power tools, and ATVs as 6-year-olds get out of their RC cars.

Which is exactly the context of Raph's quote in that episode. Forget the little RC cars or whatever that Don put together for them in their childhood... now THIS is a machine!

*ponders* Nevermind, I bet that sounds sexual to you too. Gah, I hate double entendres... a person can't just say what they mean anymore.

In the vein of old vs. new cartoon censorship, I don't see a whole lot of difference, for the most part. Sometimes the style of avoiding violence will shift a bit, and that could be what you're noticing. For example, Swat Kats was pretty tame as far as the hand-to-hand fighting went, but villains were shown to be dangerous by indiscriminately destroying skyscrapers. Not every Enforcer chopper or jet that exploded had the now-obligatory "parachuting pilot," though some episodes did. The implied death count was huge, and nevermind that the destroyed buildings would touch some post-9/11 nerves if they tried to pull that off today.

But I still would say it's no darker than most action shows right now... the overall tone is still light enough and every episode is a one-shot (that is, no tense "to be continued?!" show endings). I haven't seen most of the series in years, but I'll bet that even the '80s TMNT had some heavy subject matter in their otherwise light and funny show. And even though TMNT 2k3 is considered "dark," it's still mostly the same thing as Swat Kats... the sheer implied body count, but no blood. Only instead of blowing up skyscrapers, their devices are more of the "turtle pulls a thug into the shadows and you hear a sound suspiciously similar to a neck being wrenched." Though you get some awesome onscreen fight footage, but how many shows have done that? Quite a few, if not Swat Kats.

And Avatar canceled? Heh heh heh... that's like saying Harry Potter was canceled by the publisher, or that Lord of the Rings IV was scrapped due to lack of support. It was meant to be a three-season story from the getgo, but it's so popular that I'm sure pressure will be on the creators to consider starting a new arc after this one is finished. And that show is fantastic... dark and serious in some parts, but doesn't consider itself above goofy humor episodes. Honestly, any good show needs a balance. The ones that endured from "back then" had it, and the ones from this decade that will endure have it too.

And that's another thing... as time goes on, we only really remember the ones with that enduring quality. Radio stations that play '80s music won't play the ones that bombed. Stations that play new stuff play... new stuff. Some will become classics, some are terrible. Same thing with shows. The networks are awash with crappy cartoons, but I bet they were "back then" too. Thing is, in 10 years nobody will remember shows like Cyberchase or a good chunk of the Flash cartoons on Nick right now either. Just the ones that stood out, for good or ill.

Well, there's an all-over-the-place post if I ever saw one. My apologies, guys.

That's what I was getting at. Just because this is a lesser used adage, it sounds sinister to some, like it has a hidden meaning. But, if you try hard enough, you can take sexual meaning from anything. The closest 2K3 ever got to adult humor was when Quary turned human for the first time. But, to retain the innocense, they just played it off as an awkward moment.
Well, there's an all-over-the-place post if I ever saw one. My apologies, guys.

The tone and delivery of that dialogue plays a part of it, and *gasp* some of it isn't sexual (shocking, isn't it?).

The RC cars, powertools, etc. would've popped to my virgin mind long before the other did, but it was Raph's tone and delivery of that dialogue that changed my translation of it. Besides, I've heard that phrase long before to describe more the sizes of that part of the anatomy, and less to real plastic toys.

The visual of the Foot Tech machine was supposed to help that image of ATVs and such, but like I said, it was tone and delivery that underlyingly translated it elsewhere. You can still agree or disagree, that's fine. It's how it is to me, but don't ever insult like me that. I've not lowered myself to such abrasive behavior.

Well, I didn't see too many SWAT Kats episodes, or at least remember it that well. So I'll take your word there.

Censorship is an on again, off again thing, I think. Every so often when, let's say, Janet Jackson's grotesque old boob hangs out, or some dumpkoff somehow gets a gun (which I won't discuss) and decides his life is so terrible that he has to go around shooting everyone that has NOTHING to do with his crappy life, then the letters begin. I have to say, looking at what 4Kids did to most of their animes, I'm absolutely surprised they let half the stuff in. A lot of scenes had to be altered so people didn't die. They just somehow got injured slightly, but were suspiciously never seen again. Just like in real life.. :trolleye: Where as TMNT actually aknowledged death on an episodely basis. Didn't at the end of that dark future episode, everyone but Donatello from the past died? I mean, that is pretty Dark.

So I guess Laird or someone objected to the fact they'd have to shelter kids from reality ("No honey! Grampa didn't die of old age. he just magically disappeared, and you'll never see or speak to him again."). Too bad someone at Toei didn't feel the same way. Nami's mother being trapped in a dungeon, and miraculously not existing after that point. Kinda dumb.

I can't say I like the concept. it is pretty lame, I think. but as long as the turtles aren't over simplified, Mikey's playfullness being misconstrued as acting like a child, Raph's attitude being changed to make him - http://thumbs.ebaystatic.com/pict/2900841516668080_1.jpg and Splinter not going off on how he's gonna miss his stories (yes, playing off an old person stereotype is funny.... but only if you do it once or twice), I'm all for it.

I think they stated it would be a little darker, and more in tone with the rest of 2k3. I can't vouche for that, but that's the rumor.

And I still think TMNT is far from being non-violent. Even with the complete lighten up of FF, there was still enough ninja kicks, nunchucks, and explosions. So nothing to worry about there.

It will be intresting to see how they explain how the Turtles are able to travel back and forth and Spliner can not and have veiwers buy into that.

Here's the way I understand it...

They all go back to the present via some time-traveling mechanism. The time-traveling doohickey works by breaking people down into electronic or light signals (which actually makes a great deal of sense considering teleportation works the same way in real life and time travel can be considered a type of teleportation). Viral probably goes back in time with them, and during the process she steals Splinter's data and scatters it through the internet (or more accurately, she splits up his data and traps it in many different servers). For whatever reason she leaves the turtles alone, whether because she doesn't have enough time or because she just wants to see what they'd do without Splinter, and they rematerialize in the present. Then to save Splinter, the turtles hook into the internet Matrix-style to retreive the broken up bits of Splinter data and likely store them in Serling for safe keeping. Once they collect all of Splinter's data, then they can rematerialize him via some doohickey, and that's the end of the season.

Granted, that's all speculation, but it's based on what we know so far and is a pretty easy explanation to buy into.

Scandia

OK, that would work for a 2-3 episode arc. But not for an entire season. Little kids would lose interest and not be able to pay attention for so long.

The season is only 13 episodes and I doubt all the eps will be spent in cyber world. Remember we know April and Casey are back and I don't think they're going to go into the cyber world, so I expect some classic NYC based episodes.

Splinter probably won't be rescued completely until the tail-end though, it seems like they want to avoid him this season.

Exactly, and don't forget there's also that guy with the dragon tatoo. I really doubt he'll be visiting the internet either. So don't worry, I'm sure they'll spend no more than half the season in the virtual realm, and I think that's fair enough for those who aren't big on that idea.

You do know there were times when Splinter went without being in the show for over 4 episodes, right?
Time does not need to spent every week just so we can see Splinter doing absolutely nothing to contribute to a specific episode. Do we really need to see him training the turtles or telling them to be careful? All that does it just fill time.

It was less directed at you as a person and more of a vent about the nature of people to take innocently-intended things and put a sexual spin on it. However, my wording was much more personal than I intended and rather insensitive besides (that last quip I couldn't resist was definitely uncalled for), and for that I apologize. As you can probably tell, this is a subject that frustrates me very much, especially since you can get some jerks that will find that garbage in everything that comes out of your mouth.

I guess having friends that keep their humor pretty clean helps my mind stay... "virgin," as you put it. :P That and when I watch Turtles, a cartoon slotted for kids, sex is probably the furthest thing from my mind (the fact that animation analysis is at the forefront probably blocks any attempt for it to sneak up, heh). Though the more Freudian stuff will creep back in upon analysis... such as Raph's possible "short sword" syndrome.

So yeah, sorry about that. Probably shouldn't post when I'm in one of my rare sarcastic moods.

Splinter's Iroonna

You do know there were times when Splinter went without being in the show for over 4 episodes, right?
Time does not need to spent every week just so we can see Splinter doing absolutely nothing to contribute to a specific episode. Do we really need to see him training the turtles or telling them to be careful? All that does it just fill time.

True, but what is the point of getting rid of him? There were also some excellent episodes (when the writers would actually consider him) that Splinter was central to.

Ah well, according to W.G. they start recording this month-- maybe more stuff will leak out soon.

We do need to see Splinter redeem his kick ass qualities though in this new season. All he fought in FF was Jammerhead. I like seeing a few episodes (not the whole season obviously) where Splinter joins in on the action and kicks some butt, even if it's the TMNT's butts during training

More new stuff ......

http://the-5th-turtle.blogspot.com/2008/01/playmates-toys-fall-08-sneak-peek.html

Here's the Cyber Foot (working name) action figure design as intended for part of Playmates Toys' fall 2008 line, based on a description of how the character may (should) look in the 2K8 cartoon season. Doesn't seem to be any way to get away from unrealistically thin body types these days, does there (he asks as he munches away on salt and vinegar potato chips)?

Yeah. I mean, Splinter just became a garden variety elderly person stereotype (a Grandma, at that) in some of those episodes. Other than marketing reasons, there was no reason to even take him into the future. Other than a couple episodes, he really didn't do anything but make snarky comments (like another couple of old people stereotypes (http://www.bear-town.com/images/for_journal/from-the-balcony.jpg)).

Very disappointing, since Splinter kicked total anus in the 2k3 series, but still kept a sly sense of humor.

BTW, another blog post popped up...

Edit: Apparently they're not even really going to wear that in the show.

A new TMNT season could offer some of the followings: more fighting (including Splinter), more explosions, more vehicles and probably a new or improved lair. Think about the episode "Journal" from FF. It may be false, but it may be a hint for the next season, right?

And what better way to disguise this fact than by adding something to the animated characters that doesn't actually cost much to animate?

Plus, they're trying to make the characters resemble the movie characters more. And leaving the eyes out wouldn't save them nearly as much money as their new simple style will.

I have a theory about that Utrom riding that spider machine.

I think it may be part of a flashback episode showing how Ch'rell invaded the other planets and caused war and devastation. He used that machine as his transport. And they are making a toy out of it because little boys of all ages will find it fascinating- even if it shows up in only one flashback episode.

I do not think that Utrom Shredder will return. At least not Ch'rell. Now Krang on the other hand...

Of course, now I'm actually psyched about this new series.

IF they're going to bring the Shredder back for the 2k8 season (notice that I said "SEASON", NOT "SERIES", here, and which I honestly hope that they DON'T, as I am just SO sick of him that it isn't even funny!), this has to be THE lamest looking thing that I've EVER seen. I hope it's JUST an action figure, and he's NOT coming back. They (meaning Peter and 4Kruds) need to come up with fresher, new villians than Shredder. I think that I was one of the few TMNT fans who was more than a little happy to see him end up on that ice-asteroid at the end of Season 3.

*makes face at the following thought* But IF they bring him back, they bring him back. It's not like WE have any say in the matter, anyway. Although I DO wish that Pete had taken a page out of Rick Ungar's book, who actually ASKED us BMFM fans what WE wanted to see in the new series when he was in the process of bringing IT back. Rick and the animation folks actually WANTED OUR creative input for the show. But does Peter and those ninnies at 4Kruds?! Noooooooo!!!:x

*sighs and calms down*

Which is NOT to say that I WON'T be tuning in and watching the new eps when they finally air. I'm just TOO much of a devoted TMNT fan NOT to. Shredder, or no Shredder coming back. Not gonna LIKE it IF he does, but I'll STILL watch.

As for getting THAT action-figure, nu-uh. I don't buy the bad guy ones; just the good guys (AKA the Turtles and their allies/friends).

I'd say this is far, far different than just "Cyber Suits" for the Turtles and anyone who thinks this is an exclusive is just fooling themselves.

I got my "Utrom-less" seasons, and any TMNT season is going to have Shredder in it...even FF in some convulted time-traveling manner. F*ck the fans bored of him, I'd like to see him back for a few episodes (probably for the finale).

And whilst I was sick of Ch'rell myself, I like that toy design. If Ch'rell were'nt in it, nobody would be complaining, there just following fashionable opinion. I don't think the "fans" should be dictating to the company what to do either, as they can be just as stifling and as petty in their decisions and reactions as 4Kids or Peter with the infant Turtles and reboot ideas. TMNT is'nt YOUR show, so bloody accept that it is'nt. It belongs to a large audience, and that audience would love an idea like this.

I do not think that Utrom Shredder will return. At least not Ch'rell. Now Krang on the other hand...

Chrell is the best Shedder but I think it would be cooler if there was another nasty Utrom who fight TMNT. If you went into the past and stepped on a butterflys wings, it would alter time in some way.

One needs only looks to the FF episode, "Timing is Everything," to see why Ch'rell may be back in physical form (not that cyberspace bullcrap.)

What did Leo do in this episode? What did Shredder do in this episode?

1. Shredder knew there was something different about Leo, he was more powerful. Shredder isn't dumb which is why -

2. He found his way into the future. What did he say? Take it all, for the Shredder? What's to say before all those foot were kicked back into the past, they didn't get a piece of tech from the future that might've allowed Shredder to see his future? Or -

3. What if Raph telling Shredder, "we put the hurt on you a long time ago," made the Shredder curious, so he thought that something bad happens to him in the future so he corrects it, maybe with a piece of tech the foot could've stole? Or it could go back to the very first theory of time travel -

4. Just because Leo showed up in the past, it altered time somehow, so the events of Exodus never happened...

-X-

Actually, time travel, as we've seen it on the show, follows the circular model seen in Gargoyles: going to the past alters nothing, since any time travelling was always supposed to happen--it was already part of the script, as it were. Or to put it another way: if you hadn't traveled to the past and hadn't stepped into a butterfly's wings, your present would have been different from the very start. Thus, any time-travelling that occurs will only help bring the future we've already seen in Fast Forward about.

To wit:

In the first Renet episode, the timestress comments that she met the turtles at an Event of Great Significane, or E.G.S. Why is that particular moment an E.G.S.? Because the turtles eventually travel to the middle ages to fight Savanti and Ultimate Drako. Had they not time traveled, then the E.G.S. would not have occurred, and Renet wouldn't have known to meet the turtles at that precise moment.

Likewise, in Timing is Everything, the turtles received Don's letter before they'd ever embarked on their time travel. Had they not time travelled, the letter would not have been delivered--it never even would have existed, since Don wouldn't have been stranded in the past and wouldn't have need to write it. However, it did exist, and it arrived before the turtles time-traveled, because the turtles had always time traveled.

Thus, whatever memories/technology the turtles bring back with them from the future will not alter it, and will instead help bring that future about. Had the turtles not traveled to 2105, then 2105 as we know it would not have existed.

gobo
02-22-2008, 09:26 PM
And, how do we know that's how it works? Don already helped build an Empire that he wasn't around to build. Thus, all events are predestined.

C'mon! You know as well as I do that:

Anyway, the thing that bugs me is you have to "log on" to listen to them, so there's no way you can tell what the songs will be unless you sign up. An' something tells me, it ain't gonna be pretty.

They still don;t give a crap on what "we" think. Unless you're under 17 years old that is. They care mainly about the younger kids who apparently have more buying power. The 5-15 year olds are going to chose the theme song. not "Us."

Hun doesn't approve of his ex-boss being an alien. But, under the right conditions, he'd happily sell his soul to survive.

But, I'm guessing Viral infected The (Utrom) Shredder's computer networks when she had access to them in "Timing is Everything". That suggests to me that the world the Turtles return to might be like a "Back To The Future - Part II" scenario. If that's the case, I hope they disguise it well enough though I'm sure people will still call it an unimaginative rip-off.

144 "Back From The Future" Fall 2008 S07E01
When the Turtles return from the future to the present time, Viral interferes causing Master Splinter to get trapped in cyberspace, bits of his data code scattered all throughout the digital domain. The Turtles must find a way to access the virtual realm so they can gather Splinter’s code and save their beloved father before he is lost to them forever.

I really don't think "Cyber-Shredder" will turn out to be Ch'rell. Remember, Earth was basically an unavoidable detour in his larger plans; as soon as he saw an opportunity to leave the planet and resume his larger plans to dominate the universe, he took it. Why stay in technologically-backwards Earth if he can avoid it? Personally, I'd go for highly-advanced A.I. with a personality molded after Ch'rell, but not Ch'rell itself.

This whole cyberspace thing has me bugged.

If every episode has them going into cyberspace to find Splinter and all the bad guys reside there, then this season will be very repetitive.

As I have stated before, I would like to see all the characters, or at least some, from seasons 1-5 come back in some form that doesn't deal with cyberspace.

Anyway:

Does this mean that "Back to the Sewers" is the official subtitle? Sorry if this has already been established.

I have to admit, if the TMNT need a byline, at least it's one that doesn't sound rediculous. Since S4, the series had a byline, though it wasn't really official. "Mutants and Monsters"- which was basically only used in Merchandise. I don't see why they shouldn't call it that at all, since we're clearly going onto another series, rather than just another season.

What was the byline for Season 4? I know that for 3 it was "Ways of the Warrior", at least in the DVD boxes. Dunno how official that was, or if it was used in the broadcast.

And I did not like the Sky Highway comic, though animating it could improve it. It was not terrible- but it was not particularly good.

Why are their heads so small???

That seems to be a recurring issue with the 4Kids artists; all of the fake retro art they created had the same problem. (I actually have the suspicion that they didn't even draw the heads for those and merely copy/pasted old heads onto new bodies.)

The 4Kids artists are also painfully unable to draw new poses, as most of these are copies or extremely close variations of old poses. I'm really glad Mirage rejected (at least most of) these.

They should get Dooney to do the style guide again. IMO he's the guy who gets closest to drawing a definitive Turtle. :ohwell:

Jelly Bean

Fledermaus

I do not think they look horrendously disproportionate either.

Well, of course you (and Jelly Bean) wouldn't find them disproportionate. Now that they are 7.5 heads tall, they have the proportions of a 6 foot tall adult male human. You see that every day. They look more "normal." (Never mind that they're supposed to be mutant turtles, who in most every incarnation have been significantly shorter than most male - and female - humans.) Now, throw in the fact that, when animated, humans are usually six heads tall as opposed to the more realistic 7.5 heads. So in cartoon-land, apparently, the TMNT have gotta be like seven feet tall now. (The next mutation perhaps)

Their head-to-body ratio in 2k3 was, officially, five heads and even then the animators would often forget that.

I associate giving turtles human man proportions with erotic TMNT fanart, but whatever... What matters most are the script, voice acting, and storytelling.

From the Blog:

Starting to receive preliminary character sketches for the style guide update. Most of these Mikey poses were rejected for being too similar to existing poses, plus, well, most of them don't capture Mikey's character (facial expressions) nor natural athleticism (the joy he takes in his body). They just seem too TMNT-generic. Back to the drawing board....

Words of note: Rejected- update- style guide... Now my take on all this is...

Style guides and character designs are usually 2 different things altogether. Remember how the toys looked. not just current ones, but the original 1980's line. So the toys and merchandising could have a completely different look than the final product in animation anyway.

Seems like they're working on it as well. They could be adjusted to be more in scale, or they could just wind up looking the same way anyway. Hard to tell at this point.

I wonder how far they got on the animation anyway since, as I stated earlier they're recording the show as we speak
and the characters aren't totally finalized. At least in the style guide.

Personally, once they fix the head to body ratio, these designs look pretty good so far.

I just like that Mikey still looks beefy and muscular and not to small. I didn't care how they made him him into a midget compared to his brother in fast foward and CGI movie.

I really like the top right pose. I do think I am not sold on the head and eyes but I like where it's going.

I've heard several people saying they like the top right drawing the most, but I honestly think it's the weakest drawing in the entire image. The proportions are way too human (looks too tall), the pose seems off-balance and awkward, the head too small, and the legs way too long. That Mike looks almost feminine to me.

Now, the more finished drawing below it, while it does have that pesky tongue shortcut going on, does capture the shorter look the TMNT should have, the masculinity, and it's very fitting for Mike because it looks gentle and intelligent. A couple other drawings on this page have his shoulders hunched/beefed up to the point where he looks like Raph.

As for the pupils (and yes, there are pupils on every Turtle with eyes on the page), I'm reserving judgement for now. I really liked the mask/no mask system they had going on in 2k3 and I liked the tough look it gives the Turtles when suited up as ninjas, but if they actually use the pupils well to expand their expressiveness... then I'm all for it. The problem, of course, is that the animation budget will probably be too cheap to really use pupils to improve the acting.

Would it not be probable that this season could have a little more money thrown into it then the previous ones? The whole franchise should have made a good chunk of change in the last year...the tmnt movie/merchandise should have reeled in a few bucks, and FF ratings were higher then previous seasons...they should spend a little of that cash on the toon. Likely?

:lol:Well mike's character does seem to be morphing into a more pathetic protrayal in each incarnation. 2k3 wasn't so bad, but fast forward and TMNT the movie seemed to throw him under the kiddy train. This could be an even bolder move than making him seem childish. Making him seem feminine.

While I agree that they are quite capable in the previouse seasons, I just feel that they are shorter then most other people. Yeah, I know they aren't human and height has nothing to do with their ability to fight. Yet I just wish they were a little taller then April.

I think the deal with the top right drawing is the posing more then the sketch. If that mikey stood next to the one below him the upper drawer would end up being taller or at least have longer legs.
The way he is standing seems like a good dynamic Mikey pose though.
It just looks like he is looking at someone thinking "Yeah I am about to kick your butt"
That one and the center left his head is noticeably very small.

It is true that Mikey's build seems to be getting smaller and Raph seems to be getting bigger, I always noticed that in FF when there was really no difference in 2K3. It did bug the heck out of me.

I think in the new movie the size difference was probably because they seemed to be pushing the age difference. You are right Nuetrino Mikey is starting to stand out way too much. I hope these sketches are leading back to the build in 2K3 and if they have to do height/build differences they aren't so drastic. Actually their heights by comparison to everyone else seemed very appropriate in 2K3 too.

I think pupils with masks is a little busy or something, I dunno I just don't really care for it. Plus without pupils looks more hardcore. Pupils are fine if the masks are off.

Haha I know, with the budget cuts we will be lucky if we don't just get some polygons running around on the screen.
Seriously though they need to leave the eyes alone, it just isn't going to look right probably

I actually think it has potential to work if they do it right. They could do it like the teaser trailer where they had no pupils at the start when they were all bad ass.

And then that didn't happen in the actual movie. At all.

Exactly. And the concept really isn't radically different from what we have already seen in 2K3 where they suddenly grow pupils if they don't have their masks on.

I feel that Mikey pre-FF was where it was at. But then he became some sort of generified child, and the rest of the characters flagged off too. Raph's tough guy demeanor was changed into general crankiness. Donny was just a straight up technogeek. And the worst one was Splinter being a goofy father figure/ generic old person (I gotta watch my stories). I don't mind Mikey being immature, as long as he's still awesome in battle. Remember, they are teenagers that usually want to have fun, but have the heavy burden of their duties as ninjas to hang onto. I could forgive what happened on the level that it's a lighter series, and they didn't have such a general threat, but even then,... lame character writing.

I honestly think he was more mature in the 2k7 movie than in the 2k3 cartoon. At least in the movie he had a job and did not do anything horrendously obnoxious. He was clearly the comic relief, but in a good way. If anyone was immature and over the to pin the new movie, it was Raphael.

I agree that CGI movie Mikey seemed much more subdued than 2k3 Mikey, but that could be because we didn't get to see a whole lot of him in the movie to flesh him out as completely as the new toon does.

Tinuvielsdreams

Yeah in the movie we didn't get to see as much of Mikey personality wise, and when we did it was often followed by him falling down...lol

I get where you say he is more subdued though, there is no mention of a battle nexus trophy ever. As much as I do enjoy the 2K3 Mikey that was the one thing that got me. It happens with him though, they tend to pick a Mikey gag and kinda run it into the ground.

I have to say, before this becomes a "Mikey is immature" thread, the worst thing to happen to Mikey was "Graduation Day." I hated the fact that they decided to make him the worst ninja in the group. All it did was further dillute the character's child like goofiness with slacker mentality. The idea would have been a prime example for Raph's anger issues clouding his judgement, but they decided to go for something a little more obvious.

I really hope this season avoids as many obvious script ideas, and goes a little deeper, like it did years before.

I really hope so too, this is what I really miss with the series. Well, Mikey did beat Raphael fair and square. And he beat Kluh in the rematch, so he really did earn his trophy.

But if Leonardo hadn't been taken out by the Ultimate Ninja's dart, he probably would have won, assuming he got past Usagi.

wasn't it stated some where by Peter Laird that Usagi is a more skilled fighter than Leonardo is? If that is true than I think if the fight had continued than Leo would have been taken out by Usagi and Usagi probably would have won the championship.

Okay, I just finished watching Season Six the other day, and as far as the Cyber Shredder in Season Seven goes...

...and how likely it is that it's going to be Viral. I mean she got her code ripped apart in Episode 142, The Day of Awakening.

Of course, it's definitely not unheard of for people to come back from seeming to be dead in this show. Heck, the flurry of recurring characters is probably my favorite thing about it. And since Viral is a computer program, it's entirely possible she had a backup of herself stored somewhere. It worked well enough for Professor Honeycutt.

Heck, her seeming to be dead could give her an advantage. When the Turtles are hopping through whatever time gate they manage to open to get home, Viral could probably hack into the machine and get sucked through time herself without being expected.

Anyway, it should be interesting if Viral does make it to the present time. She was a complex program in 2105, unlike anything Cody had seen. In the present time, she'd be the most powerful computer program on Earth by far.
