This is an absolutely perfect comparison. April, like Esmerelda, can care for Don deeply, but that doesn't mean her feelings have to dip into anything romantic just because he might feel that way toward her. It doesn't make her a bad person if she falls for someone else, nor does it make Phoebus (or Casey) a bad person because he likewise fell in love. It also proves that Don isn't UNlovable just because of the way he looks, but that he now knows it's possible to continue searching for someone else who will return the same types of feelings.

It makes way more sense to me than the whole "Beauty and the Beast" angle that a lot of fans like push in any case. Can't stand my favorite fairy tale being twisted in such a way.
