When I was at Shellback on Saturday, Steve Lavigne told me he had just submitted a cover to IDW for Volume 5 of the Archie series. To me that means they will be using different artists for the covers. Who knows who we might see.

I agree this this is the weakest of the covers so far.

Lawson did quite a few drawings for Archie back in the day. He also did a ton of newspaper comic strips. While I like Jim's cover, Ryan brown is the ultimate Archie guy imo. His was the only of the Archie stuff that I really liked. Though I don't believe he takes this kind of work anymore.

Wasn't this the accepted cover after IDW rejected Lawson's first attempt? I think it was posted on his FB sometime... the original was much better.

Are they really all red bandanas? To me they look blue, purple, and orange, just badly shaded...

And I too vote for Chris Allan

I've held the book in person. They're all wearing red.

No belt initials or common skin tone colors in addition. It feels more like the cover of a DW collection for the 2003 cartoon than for Archie. They probably just want to make it look refreshing and unique.

At least the Vol. 4 cover has the belt initials and even though is in black & white, makes it aim nostalgic and should bring out the old fans.

He actually did a few whole issues, too.

You're getting a bit mixed up, I think. & I would imagine they wouldn't bring Chris aboard until his art's inside the books (or is it already? I'm not following these so I have no idea how far they are).

Chris Allan didn't come on board until after Ninjara showed up I don't think, and these are still fairly early issues, Raphael is dressed like they just went or came back from Stump Asteroid there.

It always struck me that Chris Allan was trying to give the characters sex appeal, so it would be weird seeing him do covers for any of the pre-Japan trades.

Still primarily Mitchroney issues, last I saw. Surprised he wasn't tapped. He works for Nick. Maybe he's just too busy.

He doesn't work for Nick any more; for the moment anyway. Things seem to ebb and flow in the entertainment industry.

Is it black and white in final or will it be colored before release?
