I must admit, I am really really wishing deeply for a solo mikey episode, where it's about Mikey being sepperated from his brothers and having to work on his own.
Some-thing tells me, that ones he finds himself in such a situation, his personality would compleately change and he would show ridicoulus amounts of competence. One line he had that really stuck with me was from Panick in the sewers. "Guys, I think we might be in over our heads." "Mikey, you are always in over your head." "I KNOW! I meant us. And that scares me." Okay.. what does that tell about Mikey? First of all, he doesn't view himself as being better than his brothers as in.. at all. In fact he is relying on his brothers to be better than him, and being able to figure out the situations. That also mean he feels safe relying on his brothers, so he doesn't have to always focus, he doesn't have to always give attention. And perhaps in his mind, even if he did, it wouldn't useful as his brothers out-do him in pretty much every-thing any-way? so what is there left, but to pick up a good ball persona, at least then he'll have some sort of secured spot among his brothers. Let himself being the one the others can take care off. So what would happen if he suddenly got sepperated from his brothers, and the situation demanded for Mikey to step up to safe the day? We would probably see an entirely new side of him. I'm pretty sure that he would be insecure, as he is not used to be the one saving the day, but I am also sure he would step up and do what he knows he needs to do, in spite of his insecurities. And I am mighty curious about that. Oh yeah, I am pretty sure this Mikey is rather insecure, just hides it behind his goof-ball attitude. |

This Mikey can be annoying at times bit to over the top.
But no way near as annoying as the 2k3 Mike. |

Yeah, they're overdoing Mikey's childishness... fortunately I can overlook this because he's the baby brother, he has the looks for it too (I find myself wanting to hug him), and his three brothers really did cherish him.
That Leatherhead episode really redeemed his naive persona. And speaking of LH I really enjoyed Mikey was upset the gator disappeared in the last episode. In 2K3 they all acted LH getting buried under the rubble is just another day for them or something.

maybe sometimes, but if you look closely . you can see several things that makes up for it. He is a very competent fighter, fully embodiment of being Zen and he is adorable without it being over emphasized.

I'd love to see this too XD It would give Mikey the perfect chance to shine. The individual personality flaws this time are really interesting for all the turtles. They definitely need to explore them XD

I don't think Mikey is dumb at all. He just lacks focus at times. I think this Mikey is way better than 4Kids Mikey as 4Kids Mikey became not only a coward but a complete jerk who thought he was better than his brothers. This Mikey doesn't act that way, and while his goofiness can be a bit over the top at times, there are other sides to him that are coming out. One example is how Mikey doesn't think while fighting as seen in "Monkey Brains." Another is his compassion for others as seen in "It Came From the Depths" and "TCRI."
I love this Mikey a lot, and I really don't want him to change. And the other Turtles have gotten in a few good jokes such as Leo imitating the Kraang and his bad battle lines and Raph telling Donnie to marry the portal and joking about how Bradford would wear the hakama when he took Mikey to prom.

Honestly, I love this Mikey! I agree with a lot of previous posters here. I don't view him as dumb...he just lacks focus.
"You know I have a short att--OOOH GUM!" case in point. But he's an amazing fighter, and when he DOES focus, he's a force to be reckoned with. He wants to give everyone the benefit of the doubt (Bradford and Leatherhead, for example) and tries to see the good in all people. He's quite simply adorable!! He does play the bit of the baby brother. It's funny, because that is the roll my youngest boy falls into as well. My youngest is a little goofball imp.... |

still think Mikey is kinda dumb... but most of you are too big a fan of Mikey from past incarnations to wanna admit it and have to come up with a bunch of excuses for it. Some things he does come off as naive and innocent, but things like literally thinking they were in Kansas... that's just being dumb. And believe me, I'm a huge Mikey fan too and would have liked him to be the funny AND competent one.
I also would like to see a solo Mikey ep. OF COURSE he'll somehow get through whatever challenges hit him in such an episode, he is one of the main characters after all and if the episode is about him, of course he will still presevere. However, I doubt he's gonna suddenly become super-competent and be like 'yeah... the dumb thing was an act, time to act serious'. I still expect a lot of jokes and humor at the expense of him being dense, and I also expect him to do something stupid like... forget the mission and hit a pizza place, or chase the pizza kid that will somehow conveniently lead him to the place he needs to be to discover Shredder/Kraang's plan and/or rescue the others.

I feel he acts a little too childish but since I think this is a younger version of Mike it seems fitting and it's also incredibly funny and cute.

I agree he's more childish than dumb, and since almost everyone is younger this time, that makes sense. However, I don't like how he beats certain jokes into the ground for a whole episode. The smoke bomb, water balloon, and Olympics things were just tiresome.
My opinion of comedy is that often quantity is better than quality, and in this case, quantity also means variety. For one thing, how funny any one joke is is subjective, but for another, even if you love a joke, you probably won't love it as much after it's overexposed. That's why good comedy doesn't rely on just one joke. Come to that, though, I'll at least give this show credit for having other sources and types of humor than just Mikey; the lack of such was part of what made 4Kids Mikey so obnoxious.

Honestly I don't find him any more dumb than previous versions. There are times when he does seem to be lacking in the intelligence department - like the Kansas comment someone mentioned, or how he got confused about why the empty van showed up when it did in Rise of the Turtles ("But we weren't in the van...") - but he's done similar things in previous versions. For example, in The Big Cufflink Caper from the '87 series, there are two such moments:
Don: It's a zamboni machine! Mikey: No, dude, it's that thing that smooths out the ice! Don: That IS a zamboni machine! And later: Don: (reading a note made from letters cut out of a magazine) 'And bring the bufflinks.' Mikey: Uh-oh, we don't have any bufflinks! Don: They must have run out of "c"s; they mean the cufflinks. Both cases depict Mikey with a fairly low level of intelligence - even if he didn't know the term was "zamboni machine", any normal person would know it's not called "that thing that smooths out the ice", and they'd been talking about cufflinks the entire episode, not to mention they had just gone through a lot of trouble to steal the things. Anyway, my point is that this isn't really the first version to depict Mikey as being somewhat dumb sometimes. Honestly I love this version of him, and while I do hope they stick more with the goofy, lacking focus Mikey than the less than intelligent Mikey, I find him amusing either way. And, since you mentioned him in comparison to the others, just thought I'd point out that while Mikey may make me smile, Raph actually gets the most laughs from me in this version, so I don't feel his comedy overshadows the others. He's goofier, but not always funnier (for me, anyway). |

i've always loved mikey as one of the turtles but he was never my favorite in any incarnation, until now. i think the writing is clever but what really sells this version of the character is cipe's performance. nick mikey comes off as naive and innocent, which hasn't really been done like this in previous versions. usually its true dumbness, cheesy "funny" one-liners and plain utter obnoxiousness. especially 4kids mikey...geez...

I've always loved Mikey and in every incarnation he's my favorite character :3
IDK I love the goofballs :3 2003 Mikey was pretty funny(that scream lol) :3 though a little narcissistic (especially after he won the battle nexus) the 2012 Mikey has his ignorant moments :3 but he's the youngest and has a good heart. but if I had to choose which I liked better, it would be 2012 Mikey :3 because he doesn't try to prove he's the best with talk, he just shows what he can do. whenever Mikey does something awesome in this version it catches me off guard, cause you never expect it from him XD (which makes it cooler!!)

-- GM: Would you like to see the show take Mikey’s personality anywhere or would you like to see him do something that he hasn’t done yet? GC: Yeah, they are doing that now. They are pushing Mikey’s character further in new places and new directions and it’s a lot of fun. He’s growing up little by little with new experiences and wisdom. So, Mikey in his own way will become wiser. I don’t know if that’s going to mean that people are going to think he’s smarter or not a goof ball, but he is gaining wisdom. Wisdom meaning like he’s going deeper into his own world. He’s always thinking about his brothers. He wants to improve worlds and be rocking with them all the time. http://www.wired.com/geekmom/2013/03...lo-greg-cipes/

![]() But seriously: Dude, you seriously rock for posting that interview. I like GC's Zen yet fun loving personality and how he always let it show through characters that he's playing. I kind of want to hear more of Kevin Eastman/Greg Cipes stories. I agree how because of his wild attitude Mikey is more of an underdog and how there are more scenes of the brothers(as well as the audience) being shocked at how awesome this Mikey is. |

Mikey is the kid appeal Turtle and it is fine for him to be goofy which can be annoying at times. He's always been the laid back Turtle. But he is the one with the most heart as shown in the Leatherhead episode.
