I of course don't agree with this, but based on the trend of current movies, it sure seems that way. Look at Dark Knight. The Joker was reduced to just some crazy guy with clown make up instead of someone who actually fell into a vat of chemicals that permanently turned his skin white and hair green and kills people with lethal laughing gas. That movie was so dark and realistic, the only thing cartoonish was Batman himself.
I don't think they are going with that notion of 'realism' with this movie. We certainly wont be getting 'dark and gritty' with the Channel 6 crew taking prominence and Raphael passing himself off as a guy in a costume next to Dora the Explorer and Spongebob Squarepants.

I don't think they are going the tone of Nolan's Dark Knight movies. If anything it will resemble Michael Bay's Transformers movies which arn't dark or realistic. Come to think of it neither was the Avengers which was a name trotted out as what they were aiming for.

A lot of the crew that worked on The Avengers film are working on this too, so Eastman may not have been pulling our chains when he said they are going to be using "The Avengers model".

Well if they cast him I would rather him play a "white" Shredder than him play some terrible stereotype Japanese person.. Johnny Depp makes me cringe in all those Lone Ranger trailers. Personally? I would have loved to see Beat Takeshi take on the role.. But that was never going to happen.

And Catwoman didn't even have a #@$& cat. I'm not saying she has to purr and hiss, but they showed her friggin' apartment, and the filmmakers decided letting a cat walk across the room was too darn much.

And let's not forget the Avengers franchise was embracing the fantastical quite a bit more, at the same time.

He would never want to be associated with a movie like this. Stop listing A listers you want in this movie. Roles have already been cast. Deal with it!

And even if he wanted to do it, Bay wouldnt cast him after he talked **** about Transformers
His wording has been twisted a bit. He said it was meaningless, but he meant that as "the role was simply a 2 hour voice acting gig." Megatron hardly even says anything in the first film, so his entire work on that film probably did amount to only mere hours. On top of that, the bulk of the voice acting, save for the lines that spell out the plot, in those films basically amount to barely audible background noise.

He even says it in his quote, that he didn't mean it in a nasty way. He simply says that he likes roles to mean something to him, and that he doesn't regret doing the role, just that he regrets that he ultimately accepted a role that meant nothing to him. Plus, two out of three of those movies were god-freaking-awful. Who can blame the guy? Besides insecure fanboys who have nothing better to do.....

Shredder's Real Name In This Movie is not Oroku Saki!

“I actually play a guy named Eric Sachs [Sounds like Sachs? Hard to understand] in the movie. And then he goes through a few stages in his existence. But Turtles is coming together very, very cool. There is a whole interesting dynamic that happens in the world of Turtles and all I can really say about it at this point while working on it is that the Turtle film, it’s not like anything that I remember about the Turtles before. I feel like this Michael Bay-produced movie is just gonna really be something else. I’m pretty excited.”

Sachs, Schraeder, Saki, Shredder? All very odd.

Hopefully the final version of Sachs is close enough to Shredder that I can just ignore all the Sachs parts of the movie!

That could be pretty interesting if they follow the IDW route in this.

Yeah, if this isn't reincarnation and Oroku Saki isn't the shredder, then this kills the movie for me. Sorry - but as a fan since 1987, I'm not all of a sudden going to accept drastic changes to TMNT mythology because some hot shot hollywood types want to change things for the sake of change.

Again - all of this is "if". I'm not a huge fan of the origin changes in IDW's take on the turtles, but if the movie is somewhat in line with that, then I can accept it. Anything drastic ala Schrader though, would be the final nail in the coffin for me.

So Hugo Weaving saying he never met Bay, and knew nothing about him is talking ****? He did not say the hours were painful, he never said MB was difficult to work with, he didn't complain that the characters were not fleshed out, and he didn't compare Bay to a genocidal dictator.

With every bit of news that gets leaked....the above image and portrayal of Shredder is looking more and more phenomenal. That is THE friggin' Shredder right there. One of the most bad a$$ villains of all time - now just casually thrust to the side for the sake of someone putting their own stamp on things. Sickening. Here's hoping there is some sort of plan at work here that we just aren't privy to or have enough information about. If not, I'm not sure how Eastman can sit back and think these types of significant changes would make long time fans excited (as claimed recently).

Starting to think nothing will ever come close to the original movie, in many ways - especially in terms of treating the original material with care and respect.

That sounds horrible.

To be fair as other people have said I doubt he knows much about TMNT beyond vague memories of the camp cartoon show he was way too old to probably be into so even if it is a faithful rendition it probably seems different to him but still you'd think given the bad reputation this movie has developed not just with fans but the general public of how it's going to completely screw everything up you'd think everyone involved would be quick to say things along the lines of "it's just like the Ninja Turtles you all know but in a modern context".

Of course that ship seems to sail with this Schrader...oh wait no sorry Sachs garbage. So any hope of him being a ninja and the Foot being an international criminal organisation seems to be dying its ass. Now he could make an interesting villain but he wont be Shredder, his whole appeal is in being a ninja with blades. The fact that they don't see that doesn't bode well for them making a half way decent film.

"Eric Sachs".............? BAH! *takes last sip of Scotch and throws glass into fireplace*

...at this point I'm just gonna shut my mouth and wait for the trailer. I want to believe in this movie so bad but it's getting to the point where you're about to cross the line with me, and I don't wanna deny myself the pleasure of enjoying a modern TMNT movie. I don't understand why they don't just make this an entirely new character altogether instead of completely changing the Shredder around. All this time I've been waiting for Shredder's proper return to the movie franchise and I've yet to hear anything along the lines of, or remotely close to badass, evil, NINJA. Hands are thrown up...

The way he describes it I just keep on getting images of the car salesman who became Cobra Commander.
