The writer is an idiot. Or they tried too hard to be different. It's as simple as that.

But yeah. That's the guy.
for the life of me, i just cant picture this guy as splinter. his voice (while not fitting for splinter anyways) will always make me think of seinfeld reruns. even if he's just used for mocap, why would splinter be so small while the turtles actors are about 3 feet taller?

Even worse, what if he's Splinter's human form?

ya know...i didnt even consider that, but now that i have, i could actually see them doing it that way. it actually would make more sense that way. it doesnt fall in line with any curent tmntverse canon but i'm sure this film will invent a good deal of new tmntverse canon when all is said and done.

This is exactly what I was thinking.. I'm guessing they are just using him for mocap and they'll make him bigger later.. Not sure if it has to do with the way they are going to create Splinter in CG or not..

Or Splinter will just be little in this movie.

No big deal.

The first thing I noticed was the pretty bad word play on Oroku Saki. Oh well...Fitchner IS a good actor though. But still...this movie will be the motherload of poor adaptations haha

The thing is, Splinter has always been kind of little. Especially in the original comics. He was very small. I've been watching a lot of the Fred Wolf toons recently. He's pretty short in that, too. I'm not actually bothered about the casting for Splinter for these very reasons alone. TBH, especially if Splinter sees any action in this film, I have a feeling that Splinter will mostly be straight-up animation. I'm more interested in the voice they're going to give him.

Splinter is pretty tall in the Nick series, Taller then the Turtles and April.

I'm more interested in his voice as well. I'm also hoping they don't make him like Yoda in the prequels for Star Wars.. Making him hop around like a mad man..

The difference is the Turtles are rather tall in this with Splinter being rather small.

In the OT/Mirage/4kids Splinter was only about a foot smaller than the Turtles.

I'm guessing that they are going the Yoda route with Splinter: wise old sensei type who can still kick arse with the best of them if need be...

Looking at the actor's height on google, it says he is 4ft tall, which is the same height as he is in the info on the back of the original figure cards, which is a nice touch for me... And I really don't mind the height difference between him and the turtles.

I highly doubt they'll make Hamato Yoshi pre-mutation that height, and I also hope that they have a voice actor for him!

Aint It Cool News has a new interview with William Fichtner which also mentions the new TMNT movie.
http://www.aintitcool.com/node/63162

Here are the parts he talks about TMNT.
Quote:
Capone: Are you presently shooting TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES right now? Is that where you are?

WF: Hey listen, if I tell you I’ve got to go after you. [laughs] Yes, I am. I’m in the middle of it right now, yeah.

Capone: Tell me about playing The Shredder.

WF: Listen, are you ready for the politically correct answer? I play a guy named Eric Sachs, who goes through changes.

Capone: Got it.

WF: Okay, there we go. We’ve got that out of the way. No, you know what? Kind of similar to THE LONE RANGER, this came up very quick, and I was literally flying back from Santa Fe having worked on Tommy Lee Jones’ film, THE HOMESMAN, and I’m in the airport in Santa Fe, and by the time I got home, I had to read this, because I was going to travel like two days later. And I read it and I talked to my representation and my wife, which is the head of the representation, and I said, "I’ve got a feeling this is cool." And I’ve worked with Michael Bay before, and that gives it an awful lot of pop right there, but it was more than that.

I spoke to the director and some of the producers on the phone and I knew that what they were going to make…. See TURTLES was not my time; it was my niece and my nephew's thing. They're in their 20s now or early 30s. I called them up and said, “Hey, what do you think about Uncle Bill doing this?” They were like, “What do you mean what do we think about it? You better do it!” And I’m really glad that I did. I think that whatever I remember of the Turtles being more cartoony, and I don’t mean that as a knock, it’s just what I remember, that’s not this. This is cool. This is a little wild. It’s a little freaky. I’ve been having an excellent time working on it.

Capone: Ninjas should be cool, of course. Why wouldn’t they?

WF: Yeah, it’s been a real character to explore, and we're figuring it out. This guy has grown a lot more since the day I got off the plane to start working on it, that’s for sure.

I still have no idea. Is it that Colonel Schrader thing? Doesn't sound like it.

That ninja quote is intriguing. Is he talking about himself or The Turtles?

I'm still in general "WTF" mode of evolving a Japanese man into Sig Hansen from Deadliest Catch.

What if the Shredder in this film is just a lackey trying to bring Oruko Saki to Earth? Could set up a great seqeuel where Saki is ressureected?
Just a theory, I can't see for the life of me Nick letting them botch the franchise unless there's something in the script we're not getting to see.

The only problem with that is.. why should we waste our time with this lame crackjack Shroeder in THIS movie and wait for a sequel to see the real Shredder? Why not just use the Real Shredder in this movie from the start? It's just stupid.

IMO I'm just gonna watch the movie with lowest possible standard and hope I get pleasantly surprised. This is is gonna be the Super Mario Bros movie all over again in terms of adaptation.

I honestly believe the plot will be all over the place, but the movie will have enough scenes of sweet TMNT VS Foot martial arts action and Megan O-Neil leaning over and bending over to make us forget everything else that is wrong with the movie.

Apparently Shredder isn't Japanese because of Chinese government, so we'll never get the real Oroku Saki.
